3 Function Setting Others Introduction Thank you very much for purchasing the digital recorder. Be sure to read this manual and understand the functions of this equipment before using it and operate the equipment properly. Precautions in Handling (1) Precautions in Handling This equipment uses a hard disk. Because giving an impact or vibration to it will cause a failure, take great care in handling it. 1. Installation Place and Handling Be sure to unplug the equipment before performing installation work. There are high-voltage portions in the equipment. Do not open the case, or a danger will be posed. Install the equipment in a place where the ambient temperature will be within the rating and condensation will not occur. The relation between temperature and humidity is as shown below. Follow the rating in using the equipment. Temperature Humidity 30 C About 80% 35 C About 65% 40 C About 45% Do not block or cover the vent hole in the main body. The power supply voltage should be within the rating. Because giving an impact or vibration will cause flaws or a hard disk failure, take great care in handling the equipment. Do not install the equipment in a place where it will be exposed to direct sunlight or high temperatures produced by a heater etc. Do not install the equipment in a place where it will be exposed to strong magnetic fields or radio waves. If this equipment is installed next to wireless applications such as TV sets and radios, poor reception may be caused. Connect the ground terminal to a ground for safety. Do not move this equipment with the power turned ON. Do not unplug the equipment during recording or playing. 2. Recording on Hard Disk Be sure to record images and sounds on the hard disk beforehand and check that they have been recorded normally. If images and sounds are not recorded or played normally due to an equipment failure etc., allow us not to make compensation for the data. If the hard disk should fail, data recovery cannot be performed. Save your important data on your PC using the accompanying SDR-300 Viewer.

When replacing them, contact the distributor from which you purchased this product. (They are supplied for pay even during the warranty period.) As a guideline, replace the hard disk about every 20,000 hours. This replacement interval is just for your reference, but does not necessarily guarantee the product performance. The precautions in handling are described. Cursor buttons on front panel Press the buttons to move the cursor up and down as well as right and left. It represents a highlighted item on he setting menu. When this symbol is shown, the setting data is selected. In this state, the setting data cannot be changes. To make it possible to change the setting data, press the ENTER button to make the item flash. It represents a flashing item on the setting menu. When this symbol is shown, the setting data can be changed. Description of Terms Hard Disk (HDD) It is a storage medium on which images and sounds are to be recorded. Channel (CH) It is an image input terminal number on the rear panel. Pressing the CHANNEL button on the front panel will change the inputted images to be displayed.

10 General Description This equipment is a digital recorder that records images and sounds on a hard disk (HDD). It incorporates a frame switcher function, which enables connecting four asynchronous cameras to it. Images from four cameras can be displayed on a four-part split screen at a time. The simultaneous recording and playing function allows you to play back any camera images during recording. Because images and sounds are recorded as digital data, high-quality recording and playing can be performed with minimized deterioration of image quality and recorded images can be searched for instantaneously. In addition, this equipment comes with a network function, which enables remote monitoring on networks. Features (1) (1) High-Quality Long-Time Image/Sound Recording Because this recorder records data on a hard disk, it can perform higher-quality and longer-time recording as compared with a VTR. In addition, it saves you from having to rewind a tape. Motion-JPEG is used for video compression. It enables recording and playing of high-resolution images of pixels (number of effective pixels: ). Unlike a VTR, no shaky image is seen at the time of freezing. Images and sounds can be recorded in all recording interval modes. (2) Instantaneous Search Three search functions (block search, time search and alarm search) make it possible to play bay target images instantaneously. (3) Adoption of Original File System The adoption of our original file system minimizes random access to the hard disk when digital data is recorded on it. This lightens the load on the hard disk, improving the reliability and quietness. (4) Pre-Alarm Recording The pre-alarm recording function makes it possible to record images and sounds from a point of time up to 5 seconds before an alarm is raised, which allows you to record and check the situation developed before the occurrence of an abnormal condition. The alarm data before the occurrence of an abnormal condition is stored in a buffer in memory, which lightens the load on the hard disk. (5) Simultaneous Recording and Playing Function This function allows you to play back any camera images without stopping recording. (Simultaneous recording and playing can be performed when the recording interval is 1/5 to 10 seconds. In this case, sounds will not be played back.) (6) Automatic Recording After Recovery From a Power Failure Even if recording is stopped due to a power failure etc., recording can be restarted automatically after recovery from a power failure, which prevents omission in recording. (7) Other Playback Recorded images can be played back in various modes (forward/reverse playing, forward/reverse single frame step playing, fast forward/reverse playing and freezing). E-2

11 Function Setting Others Features (2) (8) Network Function Enabling Remote Monitoring The network function incorporated in this equipment allows you to perform remote monitoring readily through the use of a broadband Internet connection. Because it is ready for the IP network, mail with images can be sent when an alarm is inputted. It is also possible to check live images or search for recorded images by using the dedicated viewer. Because the dedicated viewer is used and only the users registered with the main body can use this function, remote monitoring on networks can be performed securely. (9) Other Functions This equipment also has a timer programming function, time/date generating function, external time setting function and remote control function (through the RS-232C) that are indispensable for various monitoring applications. ALARM It is illuminated (red) at the occurrence of various alarms (external input, pre-alarm). WARNING It is illuminated (red) in the case of various warnings given, for example, when the capacity of the HDD runs out in the one-pass mode. Display section CHANNEL It is used to select a channel (CH) for displaying images being monitored (live images) or played back. The selected CH is illuminated (red). In the case of the alarm occurrence CH, the LED flashes while alarm recording is performed. AUTO/ It is illuminated (green) at the time of automatic switching or 4-multi screen display. It is used to select single screen display automatic switching or 4-multi screen display. Setting section PRE.ALM It is used to go into a pre-alarm standby state with the LED illuminated (green). TIMER It is used to activate the timer with the LED illuminated (green). (It is effective only when the timer is programmed on the setting menu.) MENU It is used to display the setting menu for making various settings of this equipment. SEARCH It is used to enter the search mode, which makes it possible to search for recorded images. ENTER It is used to confirm parameters in the setting mode or search mode. RET./CANCAL It is used to return to the previous status in the setting mode or search mode or to stop the buzzer. CURSOR It is used to move the cursor up, down, left or right or change the setting in the setting mode or search mode. Start switch When this switch is pressed with the main power switch on the rear panel set to "I", the power of the hard disk will be turned on and the power switch will illuminate (green). When this switch is pressed and held (for 2 seconds or more) with the power turned on, the power of the hard disk will go into a shutoff standby state and the LED will flash. Operating section When it is pressed, the recording button will illuminate (red) and recording on the hard disk will be started. When it is pressed during playing, the LED will illuminate (green) and playing will pause. When it is pressed during pausing, the LED will go off and playing will start. When it is pressed during playing, fast reverse playing will be performed. Pressing it repeatedly will change the reverse playing speed as follows: 2 times5 times10 timesmax2 times... When it is pressed during pausing, the start of a recorded sequence will be located in the reverse direction. When it is pressed, the LED will illuminate (green) and reverse playing will be performed. When it is pressed during pausing, reverse single frame step playing will be performed. When it is pressed during playing, playing will be stopped. When it is pressed and held for 2 seconds or more during recording, recording will be stopped. When it is pressed, the LED will illuminate (green) and forward playing will be performed. When it is pressed during pausing, forward single frame step playing will be performed. When it is pressed during playing, fast forward playing will be performed. Pressing it repeatedly will change the forward playing speed as follows: 2 times 5 times10 times MAX2 times... When it is pressed during pausing, the start of a recorded sequence will be located in the forward direction. SHIFT Pressing it together with another button will effect special operation. ALARM IN OUT SPOT OUT LAN VIDEO IN It is used to input video signals from cameras etc. LOOP OUT It is a through output connector for video input. When a BNC coaxial cable is connected, the termination will be released automatically. AUDIO IN It is used to input sounds to be recorded. OUT It is used to output inputted sounds during recording and to output recorded sounds during playing. VIDE OUT It is used to output images operated on the front panel. SPOT OUT It is used to output single screen display images or automatic switching images. Terminal block ALM OUT It is used to output an alarm signal inputted through the alarm input terminal. I/O TERM It is an external I/O terminal that can be set on the setting menu. It can be used for outputting for errors or recording and inputting for time setting or uninterruptible power supply. ALARM IN It is used to input an alarm signal for each channel. LAN It is used to connect a LAN cable. Orange LED Illuminating: Connected to a 100BASE-TX network. Not illuminating: Not connected to a 100BASE-TX network. Green LED Illuminating: Connected to a network. Not illuminating: Not connected to a network. RS-232C It is used when performing remote control using an external control device such as a personal computer. When it is connected to a personal computer, a crossing cable is used. AC inlet The supplied AC cord is connected to it. Ground terminal It should be connected to a ground for safety. Radiating fan It is used to radiate heat from the inside of the equipment and therefore should not be blocked. Main power switch It is a main switch for all power supplies. The power is ON when it is set to "I"; OFF when set to "O". E-5

It may slightly differ from the actual remaining time that can be used for recording, depending on the images to be recorded. Therefore it should be used as a guideline. (" : Network Function" Page E-76) Lock : It is displayed when front switches SHIFT and SEARCH are pressed together, which disables the front switches other than RET./CANCEL. 17 Function Setting Others Connecting method (Connecting the Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit) Connecting the Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit If the power supply is stopped (power failure) during recording on the hard disk, files on the hard disk may be destroyed. To avoid this, we recommend you to use an uninterruptible power supply unit (UPS). If a power failure detection signal comes in longer than 20 seconds, recording on the hard disk is stopped, which makes it possible to shut off the power. To restart the recording or to continue the timer or pre-alarm after power restoration, refer to " : Setting the Recording at Power-On" ( Page E-97). 26 Before Recording (One-Pass Recording) (1) One-Pass Recording When the capacity of the hard disk runs out, the warning LED will illuminate and recording will be stopped. In order to retain the recorded data, further recording will not be performed When using the hard disk again for recording, it is necessary to initialize the hard disk. In this case, the recorded data will be all cleared. Also when performing one-pass recording after performing repeat recording, be sure to initialize the hard disk before recording. (Timer recording and alarm recording cannot be performed either.) If a hard disk overwritten in the repeat recording mode is used for one-pass recording, the following message will be also displayed. If a hard disk is not yet overwritten in the repeat recording mode, the message will not appear and the disk can be used for one-pass recording. Remaining time Check that the icon indicating one-pass recording is displayed. Stopping of Recording For the initializing method, refer to " : Initialization of Hard Disk" ( Page E-20). 7 When the capacity of the hard disk runs out, recording will be stopped. <Description of remaining time> Depending on the remaining capacity of the hard disk, the display format of the remaining time displayed during one-pass recording varies as shown below. 1 week or more : More than 1 day and less than 1 week : Less than 1 day : The displayed remaining time may slightly differ from the actual remaining time that can be used for recording, depending on the images to be recorded. Therefore it should be used as a guideline. Caution <How to make the warning LED go off> Pressing RET./CANCEL will make the warning LED go off. <If you try to start recording again without initializing> If you try to start recording (including alarm recording, pre-alarm recording and timer recording) again without initializing the hard disk after one-pass recording is stopped due to the disk capacity running out, the warning LED will illuminate. Whether MIC is set to ON or OFF, live sounds will come out during recording. <What is the recording interval? > It refers to intervals (time) at which images are recorded. The smaller the value is (Minimum: 1/30 second), the closer to moving images the recorded images are. <For example> If the recording interval is set to 1 (second), one image is recorded per second.
