36 The Business Support Function launched in September 2009 re-branded from Commercial Fire Safety Department dedicated business support team partnership and collaborative working, added value
37 Why Business Support? Influenced by changes to legislation and working practices Enforcement and the need to respond to those changes Range of topics, not typically limited to fire safety advice Statutory role as regulator, the main perception / expectation

Developed a number of ways to support local businesses Providing active services when they are really needed Ofqual level 2 fire safety awareness (CIEH Level 3 fire risk assessment) Ofqual level 2 health and safety FPA fire warden / fire safety awareness Evacuation chairs / methods Incident support (live fire attendance) 24 hour response (protracted incidents) 24 Telephone support / referral Networking tell people what we do!
39 Developed specific services and support mechanisms by... Providing advice and support that is tailored to businesses in order to assist in the prevention of fire and other emergencies. Providing support and information to businesses that have had a fire, both at the time of the fire and post fire. Providing training and instruction that incorporates training packages that have been developed top provide long term training solutions rather than a one time fix. Providing specific business support visits that allow the recipient to generate the agenda and lead the support activity with our assistance.

42 Support and advice provided Business Support initiated: S4390 (Business Support Lead) mobilised following a direct request from the Incident commander. Support provided: Information gathering and initial communication route established with other businesses affected by the incident. Managed information flow and updates to the other businesses with regular briefings. Managing the insurance aspect s client had no idea. Post Fire Support: on going and to date our support has been recognised by all concerned. 33k interim payment secured to help the business with the recovery process. Client Comment: there s no way I could have managed all this on my own, it was a mine field, the John and Paul were there when I needed them most, we can t thank them enough (Frank & Cynthia Bruce, Business Owners)
