2 Fire Reporting Procedure Nurse in charge of each wing will Locate fire area on indicator panel Contact front desk Who will notify the Fire Department or local authority If front desk is closed, reporting nurse will contact Fire Reporting Procedure Front desk or reporting nurse will Announce code and location to alert staff Repeat message Minimum of 3 times All nursing personnel should remain on or proceed to assigned wing 2

3 If the fire is on your wing DO NOT PANIC! Check each door If the fire is not on your wing DO NOT PANIC! Remember residents look to you for protection If danger is imminent Evacuate residents to designated assembly area 3

4 If danger is not imminent Move residents to designated center area Evacuate if directed Charge Nurse Assign one employee to each fire door Call Sheriff s Office Report fire Assure residents there is no danger Supervise orderly evacuation Do not re-enter until ALL CLEAR is announced Environmental All employees will remain, or return to, assigned area Remove equipment from corridors Clear path for emergency personnel Report to Nurse s Station for instructions Evacuate if directed or danger is imminent 4

5 Laundry All employees will remain, or return to, assigned area Turn off gas and electrical appliances Locate fire extinguishers Evacuate if directed or danger is imminent Maintenance Turn alarm off after fire is located Report to fire location Bring fire extinguisher Evacuate if directed or danger is imminent Dietary Close all doors into kitchen & dining room Turn off gas and electrical appliances Cooks and assistants will remain in kitchen/dining room Unless directed to evacuate or danger is imminent 5

6 Activities & Social Employees will report to core area Assist in evacuation as directed After the ALL CLEAR, accompany residents to their rooms Unless otherwise directed Return to core area Administration Receptionist will remain at front desk Until evacuation is required All other personnel will report to assigned areas Until evacuation is required All personnel will not return until ALL CLEAR is announced Remember: the resident s safety is in your hands! 6
