Bill Robison, Batt Chief Re: Fire Department Activities for January 2010 and Summary of Calls and s For the month of January, the fire department responded to 7 incidents. Of the 7 incidents, 4 were rural calls, 3 City of Kimberly calls, and no calls for the City of Hansen or City of Murtaugh. The incidents consisted of 4 motor vehicle accidents, 1 fire calls, 1 alarms/cancellations, and 1 investigation. The first incident summary sheet attached itemizes all the calls responded to during the month of January. For 2010 total calls is 7 compared to 9, 17, and 14 for 2007, 2008, and 2009 respectively. The quick response unit received 40 calls for January. For calendar year 2009, the department responded to 204 calls. Of these calls, 132 were district calls, 22 were Hansen calls, and 50 were Kimberly calls. The second group of incident summary sheets attached itemizes the incidents for calendar year The figure below shows the total calls for the period 2005 through 2009 and the distribution between the Cities and the District. For 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 the average response time was 9, 11, 10, 10, and 9 minutes. The proportion of calls associated with the cities to the total number of calls increased in 2009 compared to prior years. The type of incident responded to for the 2005 to 2009 period is show in the figure following. For 2009, the number of calls associated with a false/alarm, cancellation, or Hansen Kimberly Rural

2 controlled burn exceeded the fire and motor vehicle accidents as shown in the figure. For the period 2005 through 2008 the average number responding to an incident was 9, 9, 8, and 7. This maybe in part due to the number of false alarms, cancellations, agency assists and/or investigations for Training The department conducted 4 drills in January totaling 124 man hours of training. The drills topics focused on apparatus response and scene placement, hazardous materials, and equipment status. The first training summary attachment summarizes the drills for the month of January. For calendar year 2009, the department conducted 48 training sessions for a total of 1432 hours. The sessions typically had 16 members present. The second training summary attached covers calendar year The computer based essentials of fire fighting is up an operational. Six volunteers have completed the course and 8 have started. Two firefighters have obtained their Fire Code inspection certificates. Apparatus, Equipment, and Station Maintenance and Service Besides routine maintenance of apparatus and equipment, the following items were performed during the month of January: Four Plan reviews Apparatus exhaust system installation Modified exhaust systems on , , and Electrical work for installation of building exhaust system Pressure control system on has failed Hughes working with Darley Fire Reports for 2009 submitted to State and National systems Two burn permits issued. Inspections, Reviews and Permits for 2009 During calendar year 2009, 74 plan reviews, 65 burn permits, five day care inspections, 4 sprinkler system inspections, and 6 fire safety school presentations were conducted.

Identification, hazards, and marking symbols. 01/18/2010 Normal Hazardous Materials 18 2 hrs Details: Volunteers continued on with hazardous material items associated with awareness. Using the ERG, MSDS, distances. 01/25/2010 Normal BLEVE. Apparatus Updates, Exhaust System 16 2 hrs Details: Volunteers reviewed video on BLEVE. Described what the letters stand for. Follow up with apparatus updates. 406: preset is not working, manually set. Last topic was discussion and operation of the exhaust system recently installed in the station. The manufacturer representative conducted the demostration and class. 07/27/2009 Normal Extrication Tools and Hose Testing 17 2 hrs Details: Volunteers discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the extrication tools demonstrated. After the discussion volunteers were instructed on the hose testing machine and the appropriate procedures for testing hose. The drill ended with a short review of the extrication tool's pros and cons. Volunteers identified pressure loss characteristics of 2-1/2 inch hose in supply mode relating length and pressure loss to flow rate. Communication for more water starts with attack going back to the supply, limited water supply from supply to attack. Maintanance of inlet pressures between 20 and 50 psi. 08/31/2009 Normal Pratice relay pump operations 14 2 hrs Details: Volunteers practiced relay pump operations attempting to implement procedures and protocols discussed in the previous drills -- somewhat successfully. Staff identifed issues for future training. 09/14/2009 Normal Presentation on Aflac and New extrication equipment hrs Details: Presentation on Aflac supplement insurance was given by Alfac representative.
