The following messages have been provided by the Dental Health Promotion Program for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Let s all make an effort to take special care of our teeth and gums! 1. Did you know that the earliest record of an actual toothpaste was in 1780 and included scrubbing the teeth with a formula containing burnt bread? 2. Did you know that the tongue is not only the strongest muscle in the body, it contains 10,000 taste buds, each with an average life span of only 10 days? 3. Brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning before you come to school and before you go to bed. Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste with fluoride. This will help to prevent cavities. 2 Principal s Message - April 2018 I would like to acknowledge the tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team which occurred last Friday, and extend our sympathy to all who have been affected by the loss or injury of loved ones. We never know what the future holds for anyone, and we need to cherish each day that we have with our family and friends. Please let me know if you are aware of anyone in our school family who needs extra support at this time. It is time to get back into routine and push for great learning the remaining three months of the school year. Spring brings unpredictable weather, and students sometimes do not dress appropriately, as they may assume the weather today will be like yesterday. Please be sure that students up to grade 6 have appropriate footwear for outside and clean, dry footwear for in the school. Our playground definitely has wet and muddy areas! We all take pride in our school, and appreciate the hard work of our caretakers, Mr. McRobbie and Mr. Ottenbreit. Report cards will be sent home with students in grades 10 to 12 on Monday, April 16. If you do not receive a copy of your child s report card please contact the school at If you would like to discuss your student s progress with the subject teachers, please call the school and we will set up a time for you to come in. In order to reach as many people as possible, save printing and paper costs and be kind to the environment, we will be using to deliver communications such as this newsletter. As well, all newsletters are posted on the school website. Please let us know if you prefer paper copies, as we will always provide you with one if you prefer. Random Acts of Kindness During the last week of February, students celebrated with a Kindness challenge competition.

5 YOGA AT BROADVIEW SCHOOL Grade 3-6 students spent two physical education classes in March learning a bit about yoga from Ashley Draper. Ashley teaches yoga classes in the surrounding area and shared her expertise with our students. They learned different poses and practiced deep breathing. Ashley taught the students that oxygen=energy and that whenever you are nervous or upset deep breathing can help calm your body. Thank you, Ashley! D.E.A.R. Reading reduces stress, strengthens your mind and expands your vocabulary. The students and staff at Broadview School participated in a Prairie Valley School Division literacy challenge, Drop Everything and Read. The high school students paired up with the elementary students and they read to each other for half an hour.

Broadview School Drama Production The Broadview School Drama Club is putting together a play called Hard Candy. Hardy Candy is a comedy and it is based on the corporation of Banff Enterprises.

The students involved in the play have been working very hard and will be putting on a performance as part of a Dessert Theatre. All community members are welcome.

This is all part of Saskatchewan Drama Association s Middle Year Festival. There are clinicians rather than adjudicators, and they put on workshops before and after the plays.

6 Broadview School Drama Production The Broadview School Drama Club is putting together a play called Hard Candy. Hardy Candy is a comedy and it is based on the corporation of Banff Enterprises. The play demonstrates how difficult it can be to find a decent employee nowadays! The play is about 40 minutes long and involves students from grade The students involved in the play have been working very hard and will be putting on a performance as part of a Dessert Theatre. All community members are welcome. Tickets can be purchased from Broadview School or from the Drama students. Tickets are $10 or $5 for 10 and under. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 Broadview Community Hall 7 p.m. Also, on April 30th, the Broadview School Drama Club will perform at 2:00 at the University of Regina. This is all part of Saskatchewan Drama Association s Middle Year Festival. There are clinicians rather than adjudicators, and they put on workshops before and after the plays. Before the plays, the workshops help students learn a bit more about Drama and the Arts. After the plays, the clinicians discuss aspects of the play for both cast, crew and directors to improve their productions.

They include Young Workers Readiness, WHIMIS, SCOTT, Flagging and more. These are courses that employers might be looking at. Check for more information. 2- Regina Trades and Skills are offering the Twelve to Trades program that is a 6 week employment program in the trades. This program could lead to Apprenticeship. Application deadline is May 4th. Check for more information. 3- Regina Trades and Skills also offer Skill Training Sessions to get your Boot in the Door. They offer paid training courses with a work term. Fall courses are usually promoted in July and August.
