1 Homebase Notes 1/29/2018 College Night: Attention ALL Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Parents: Please join us at College Night with the Deans TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. in the Waxlax at St. Edward s School. We are hosting Admissions Directors from College of Charleston, University of Pennsylvania, Davidson College and Florida State University; these four schools represent out-of-state public, large private, smaller private, and in-state public schools, to give you the opportunity to learn about a variety of admission programs. The Admissions Directors will sit on a panel and will open up the floor for questions. Please come prepared with questions written down! We would like to see everyone attend, and please invite friends as this event is open to the public! Testing Updates: This is the last week to register for the SAT!!! If you have not already done so, please consider signing up to take the SAT in a familiar setting with your peers and friendly faces! The SAT will be given during school hours for $48 on Tuesday, April 10, Did you know that the SAT is one of the best ways to show colleges your knowledge and skills? This test is open to all grade levels. Due to this test occurring on a regular school day, extended time will not be available. To register, please take your payment to Ms. Havens in room 120. Registration deadline is THIS WEDNESDAY, January 31st, so do not wait to sign up! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Etter in room 1. Art Club: There will be an Art Club meeting this Wednesday from 2-4 PM.

2 COMPATIBILITY SURVEYS: Coming SOON! Just in time for Valentine's Day! Watch for s and posters around campus for details! NEW and IMPROVED Questions! Sponsored by the Spanish Competition Team. Campus cleanliness: Please help each other keep your campus clean. If you see any trash on school grounds please take a moment to pick it up and place trash in the trash cans located all around campus. Curriculum Day: Thursday, February 1st. Curriculum Day is a mandatory event. Please make sure that you review your homebase s schedule so that you are aware of your required attendance hours for Thursday, February 1st. All students are expected to attend every session with their homebase. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every session. COLLEGE CLASSES: If you have a college class at any point during the day, you should attend your college class, but you must meet back up with your Homebase when your class is over. You are only excused from curriculum day attendance for a college class -- not before or after! Illness: If you find yourself ill during the day but not ill enough to go home, you CANNOT leave class and go to your homebase. You CANNOT call your parent and ask them to excuse you from class and then go to your homebase. If you are ill and cannot go to class, you MUST report to the front office. Again, DO NOT go to your homebase if you are not feeling well and going to miss a class. Go to the front office. If you are in a dance class or a PE class and have an injury, you MUST still go to class. You are still able to observe what is being taught.

3 Need MONEY for college??? Please do not forget to check out all the wonderful scholarship opportunities posted in the Senior website!! Many of the applications are due as soon as tomorrow!!! You do not want to miss this opportunity to be eligible for some $$$$ for school!! Please see Mrs. Stromak if you need any help with the applications or attend the help sessions. Youth in Action Thank you to everyone who came to the Youth in Action sponsored by Key Club this weekend! It was a great turn out! Key Club Please plan on attending today s meeting during lunch in the Chorus room, especially if you are interested in learning more about officer positions next year and DCon. T-Shirt orders are also ready to be placed with Mrs. Havens. Take her your money and your size and color choices ASAP so that we can place the order. If you filled out the google doc, then you still need to see Mrs. Havens. We need to order 50 t-shirts. Interested non-members and teachers are also welcome to buy a shirt! T-shirts will be $5 for S-XL sizes and $8 for 2XL (the rest of the cost is covered by your dues). If you would like a second t- shirt or have not paid Key Club dues for this school year, the cost is $9 per S-XL shirt and $11.50 for 2XL-4XL. If you are not at the meeting, please check with Mrs Kelly about DCON.

4 Stuck for a Buck: Key Club will be having a fundraiser the week of January 29 th - February 2 nd. We will be preselling strips of duct tape the entire week for $1 per strip. The pieces of duct tape will then be used to duct tape Mr. Mezzina to a wall! Come have a laugh at his expense (even though he s a great sport!) and help Key Club raise funds for a leadership conference! The taping will take place during lunch on Friday February 2 nd! If any teachers would like to involve their homebase during the beginning part of homebase meeting, please send a message to Mrs. Jessica Kelly so we can plan for your arrival! Pennies for Pasta:Do you like pasta? Do you like Olive Garden Pasta? You re in luck because starting on February 5 th, each homebase will have an opportunity to win a catered Olive Garden party for your homebase! Mrs Kelly won last year, can you beat her streak??? The contest will run for 2 weeks. Starting on the 5 th, empty change containers will be placed in homebases. You do not have to put just change/ pennies in them. You will also be provided with digital links for online social media sites (Psst that was Mrs. Kelly s secret win source!) Pasta is delicious, but pasta that goes to help blood cancer patients with Lymphoma or Leukemia is that much tastier! All your money will go directly to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society to help with treatment and research for cancer.

5 Scheduling: Scheduling for will begin in March. We will begin scheduling rising seniors first, then juniors, then sophomores. Scheduling will be done through course requests in FOCUS. We will provide dates soon. Grad Bash: Any Seniors or International Students who have not yet paid for Grad Bash, there are only 4 seats left! Please see Mrs. Havens in Room 120 with your payment if you would like to go. The 2nd Grad Bash payment of $50 is due by February 15 for all students attending the trip. Please see Ms. Kafer in Room 305 with any questions. SAT Reminder: This is the last week to register for the SAT School Day. So far (as of Jan. 26th) we have 104 students that have registered. This is fantastic however, I know we can increase that number. The registration deadline is THIS WEDNESDAY, Jan. 31st! Basic information: When: Tuesday, April 10th Where: IRSC, Room TBD Start Time: 8AM Cost: $48 Pizza will be provided for the students after testing...thank YOU to Student Council for helping with this!! ***Due to this test occurring on a regular school day, extended time will not be available. Simply Straws: Leadership Council has come up with a way to help decrease the straw pollution at our school! Straws believe it or not can t be recycled. Why that is, we don t know - but it s a real issue! We

6 have partnered up with SimplyStraws, a California business that makes Pyrex glass straws. These bad boys are reusable and come in a variety of colors! By carrying your own glass straw around, you don t have to worry about your Chick-Fil-A plastic straw blowing off into the lagoon. We are fortunate to have access to many waterways, and like Mrs. Blythe says everything leads back to the lagoon! If you are willing to stop using plastic straws, or want just want a cute glass straw for your Yeti s, come by our table in the Dome this Thursday! The glass straws are $5 and will have IRCHS screen printed in nontoxic ink. The color choices are: clear, light purple, light pink, yellow, grey, dark green, lime green, orange, and dark blue! ORDER YOURS IN THE DOME ON THURSDAY OR IN MS. STRAZZULLA'S CLASSROOM DURING A BREAK TAKE THE PLEDGE, NO MORE STRAWS! Student Council: There will be a student council meeting Tuesday at Lunch in Ms. Strazzulla's room (per usual!) Come join us! School Photos: If you fit ANY of the following descriptions, please be advised that you will need to have your photo taken on our school photo retake day which is tentatively scheduled for February 8th. - I am a senior who does not have an ID card - I am in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade and do not have an ID card - I am a student who is new to the school and arrived after school photos were taken - I never had my school photo taken - I am a senior who DID NOT go to the DSP studio to have my senior formal portrait taken More information to follow, please be prepared to have your photos taken during your break on Feb 8th.

FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS WILL TAKE THE : UNDERCLASSMEN FAVORITES SURVEY SENIORS WILL TAKE TWO : SENIOR SUPERLATIVES & SENIOR FAVORITES SURVEY ALL INFO BELOW FOR SENIORS: Senior Confetti Photo: This FRIDAY during homebase, we will have the SENIOR photo shoot for the yearbook cover. Senior Homebase teachers, please plan to allow students to report to the graffiti wall at 12:15pm for the photo. Seniors, dress your best! Note: we do NOT rerquire you to be in this photo but we'd like to see all of your smiling faces! Senior Fashion Photos: Seniors! Please be advised that our senior fashion photos will also be photographed during Homebase on Friday due to weather conditions today. Senior Homebase Photos: Attention Senior Homebases: please be advised that during homebase on Friday we will not only be taking the confetti photo but we will ALSO take a group photo of each homebase. Homebase photos will be taken directly after the confetti photo so please plan to have your entire homebase report to the graffiti wall at 12:30pm GROUP HOMEBASE PHOTOS ARE MANDATORY

8 Senior Homebase / Individual Quotes: EACH SENIOR HOMEBASE NEEDS A HOMEBASE QUOTE. For example, a few homebase quotes from last year were: "It could be worse, but we're making it work" "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing" "Is this for a grade?!?!" These should be picked asap, by today would be amazing. Homebase teachers, them to amelia.strazzulla@irchs.org ALSO Senior Homebase Teachers, you should have received a blank GoogleSheet for your senior's quotes. Please share this with your homebase. Have them write their name and their appropriate senior quote. Have your students write down the quote on the Google Sheet. Every student MUST have a quote or the Yearbook staff will come up with one for them. The quotes must have at most 100 characters including spaces. No More. (this includes the name of the person who said the quote) Thank you!
