4 Industrial plug-in power relays The unique D-relays are specifically designed for heavy duty applications, power-utilities, petro chemical industries and mining. High DC breaking capacity and inductive load switching offer long electrical life and low life cycle costs. The Solve-All relay application concept offers ultimate flexibility to design and supply tailor made D-relays. Today millions of D-relays are used across the world. The plug-in design offers secure locking features for maximum ease of maintenance (no wires need to be disconnected or other hardware removed for relay inspection or replacement). Positive mechanical keying of relay to socket is built into the relay and socket during manufacturing and terminal identifications are clearly marked on an identification plate which is permanently attached to the relay. 5 Delta relays The Delta relays provide a robust and reliable interface between protection and control system circuits. A more economical alternative to traditional relays, the Delta provides a compact, flexible and high performance solution while meeting relevant IEC standards. These power relays are able to switch resistive as well as inductive loads, depending on the options included. We offer instantaneous relay and safety-critical relay models. 6 Auxiliary, trip and supervision relays Electro-mechanical relays with 5, 10 or 12 contacts, specifically designed for high voltage protection and control applications. Multi-contact high-speed trip relays ensure fast and reliable operation. The modular draw out case system is suitable for both flush panel & 19 rack mounting. M4 screw terminals are provided with optional CT shorting switches. The cases are equipped with a powder coated metal construction for durability & screening from radiated electrical noise. In addition to standard relay models, full custom designs are available to meet specific customer needs. They provide the interface between the protection system, the circuit breaker and control equipment. 6

7 Testblock & plug systems Test links are an important accessory for protection, metering and control panels. They enable test technicians to isolate protection relays quick and safe, test signals and system performance can be veriefied. There are a number of advantages in performing injection tests at the protection relay panel: Reduction in down time of the equipment under test Testing does not cause disturbance to wiring, terminals or equipment settings Existing auxiliary supply to the equipment under test may be isolated Suitable for standard or shrouded 4 mm banana plugs Optional automatic CT shorting function Optional automatic DC auxiliary isolation High current / voltage rating Compatibility with Areva & Reyrolle test blocks 3x 75 mm + 3x 180 mm finger safe shrouded Shorting leads per test plug Arc fault monitoring Arc fault protection for fast clearance of arcing faults on BUS bars, within metal clad switchgear and associated cable boxes. The arc is detected by using an optical sensor & the signal input to a protection device which also monitors the load current on the system. A trip signal can be achieved in less than 10 ms using arc detection only or within 15 ms when using overcurrent check. This is considerably faster than a traditional IDMT overcurrent relay & provides additional protection from the onset of arcing faults with relatively low fault currents. The XT-timer relays cover a wide range of applications. The XM-relays range covers several models of monitoring and measuring relays. Voltage or current monitoring, 1-phase or 3-phase monitoring of phase failure, phase sequence and asymmetry. Status indication by colored LED. Contact ratings up to 16 amp, to control external relays or switches that perform the heavy load switching. The XT- and XM-relays have modular housing and are suitable for 35 mm rail mounting. 9 Surge protection devices The NSP arresters are a wide range of Type 1, Type 2 and combined arresters. They are used for lightning current equipotential bonding and elimination of switching surges that originate in power supply systems entering the building. Type 2 surge arresters are recommended for use at the boundaries of lightning protection zone 1 and for equipotential bonding and elimination of transient over voltage that originate during atmospheric discharges or switching processes. Therefore it is essential to inspect them regularly according the proper standards. (For example the European standard EN 50110). Nieaf-Smitt has a wide range of testers to test each part of the installation. The combination testers combine multiple functions to perform these tests in an easy and correct way, for both new or existing installations. 12 Hall effect voltage and current sensors With over 20 years experience in the railway industry, a range of sensors based on closed loop hall effect technology has been developed to supply the industry markets. These sensors allow measurement of all current waveforms, with high galvanic insulation between the primary and secondary circuits.
