The reaffirmation of the standard was approved by ANSI on 29 May 2014; ANSI E (R2014) is now published and available for free download at The no-cost download is supported by the sponsorship of Prosight Specialty Insurance. ANSI E1.34 describes a simple means of measuring and specifying the slipperiness of floor surfaces used by performers in live entertainment venues. It gives two procedures: a procedure for a generic measurement that will allow the comparision of different floor surfaces, and a procedure for a specific measurement with a performer's footwear. ANSI E (R2014) is a reaffirmation of the 2009 standard. Its requirements are identical, but the new edition bears the PLASA name and logo, lists the current Floors Working Group members, has a 2014 copyright, and gives updated notices and disclaimers. There are no substantive differences between the Volume 18, Number 11 Page 1

2 2009 edition and the 2014 edition, but the 2014 edition is the one now in effect and should be referenced in contemporary documents. DIN Is Published DIN 56928: , Event technology - Technical ceilings and grids - Safety requirements, is now published in German and available from Beuth Verlag. The standard applies to walk-on grids above meeting rooms; theaters; multi-purpose halls; studios for film, television and radio; and performance areas in concert halls, cabarets, and music halls. Technical ceilings and grids are work areas for staff for the operation and maintenance of stage machinery, lighting and sound equipment. Cost: from Beuth Verlag. SSLCHINA2014 Announced, Call for Papers Issued The 11th China International Forum on Solid State Lighting will be held 6-8 November 2014 in Guangzhou, China. The aim of the SSL International forum is to promote international communication and cooperation on SSL technology and application, and to lead the development of the emerging industry. It covers LED technologies, related equipment, materials and processes, innovative development of lighting products and applications, and provides a cooperation platform for the global industry supply chain. Honored guests will include LED pioneering inventors M. George Craford and Shuji Nakamura. A Call for Papers has been issued. This year's technical papers will be published by the IEEE and will be included in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library and EI search. Papers submitted should not have been published in another technical publications or by other technical conferences. The paper should contain a concise description of the objectives of the study, method of approach, significant results and conclusions. The papers should be in Word format, nor more than four pages long, and written in English. The deadline for abstract submissions is 30 June Paper acceptance notifications will be issued no later than 21 July2014. The reviews are over and the documents disappear when the due date starts. Due 1 July BSR E x, Entertainment Technology - Lightweight streaming protocol for transport of DMX512 using ACN This is a revision of the existing standard that describes a mechanism to transfer DMX512-A packets over a TCP/IP network using a subset of the ACN protocol suite. It covers data format, data protocol, data addressing, and network management It also outlines a synchronization method to help ensure that multiple sinks can process this data concurrently when supervised by the same controller. This revision includes the addition of DMX universe synchronization. BSR E x, Entertainment Technology - Additional Message Sets for ANSI E1.20 (RDM) Part 2, IPv4 & DNS Configuration Messages This document is another part of the multi-part, open-ended E1.37 standard. It provides additional Get/Set parameter messages (PIDs) for use with the ANSI E1.20 Remote Device Management protocol. Messages in this document are intended for configuring network interfaces, routing information and Domain Name System settings on devices with IPv4 addresses. Volume 18, Number 11 Page 2

3 BSR E x, Entertainment Technology - Selection and Use of Personal Fall Arrest Systems on Portable Structures Used in the Entertainment Industry E1.39 establishes minimum requirements for the selection and use of personal fall arrest systems on portable structures in the entertainment industry. The standard establishes minimum requirements for products and portable structures used in the service of PFAS. Other methods of fall protection, such as safety nets and guard rails, are not within the scope of this standard. This standard does not preclude the use of other standards to promote worker safety. Due 15 July BSR E1.46, Recommended Practice for the Prevention of Falls from Theatrical Stages and Raised Performance Platforms The users of theatrical stages and raised platforms can suffer debilitating injuries from falls into orchestra pits, open stage lifts, and similar openings in stage floors. Health and safety regulations require action to prevent these falls, but offer little guidance that is suitable for theatrical environments. This document would provide that guidance. FCC Seeks Comments on Fax Advertisement Petitions Two petitions have been filed seeking a declaratory ruling and/or waiver concerning section (a)(4)(iv) of the Federal Communication Commission s rules, which requires fax advertisements sent to a consumer who has provided prior express invitation or permission to include an opt-out notice. The petitioners seek a declaratory ruling clarifying that section (a)(4)(iv) of the Commission s rules does not apply to fax advertisements sent with the prior express permission of the recipient because such faxes constitute solicited faxes that they argue cannot be required to include opt-out notices. Thus, the petitioners argue that, once a recipient opts-in, no notice should be required to tell the recipient about opting out. Interested parties may file comments and reply comments on or before the 13 June and 20 June 2014 respectively. Objective and rationale: The practical use of the fire protection norms requires continuous review and, if necessary, modification of the regulation specifying the fire protection requirements. The effective regulation has been amended on several occasions, making it impossible to appropriately follow the technical developments and the domestic adoption of the EU standards, while its structure and some of the requirements have become outdated. Instead of repeated amendments there is need for a regulation based on a completely new approach. The draft mainly focuses on the expected level of security and the actual characteristics without specifying the technical solution ensuring the required security level, its establishment or features. These must be defined by the designer, thus increasing the freedom of design. Vertical plane means an angle of not more than 15 from the vertical, which prevents the worker from leaning back. ISO 9001, Quality Management Systems - Requirements (new edition) This international standard specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization: a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product or service that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. BSR/AWWA GDPR-201x, Direct Potable Reuse Programs Operation and Management (new standard) This standard describes the critical requirements for the effective operation and management of a direct potable water reuse program. Direct potable reuse (DPR) is the process in which treated reclaimed water is introduced directly into a potable water supply distribution system or into the raw water supply immediately upstream of a water treatment plant. Reclaimed water, for the purposes of this standard, is treated as domestic wastewater that is at all times adequately and reliably treated to be appropriate for the end use.
