1 All mighty at Minas Gerais A football symbol of the city of Minas Gerais, Mineirão was redesigned and gains a multievents arena concept with intelligent safety system and sustainable energy consumption It's been 48 years since its opening, with a match between River Plate and Seleção Mineira, on September 5th, From that day on, the Governador Magalhães Pinto Stadium, commonly known as Mineirão, has gone through several changes and it was even declared a heritage site by the Deliberative Council of the Cultural Heritage of Belo Horizonte ("Conselho Deliberativo do Patrimônio Cultural do Município de Belo Horizonte"). Nowadays, on the verge of being the host stadium of some of the World Cup 's matches, Mineirão has undergone an extensive renovation that was innovative in adopting the concept of an multievent arena. With administration being in charge of Minas Arena, the stadium was considered one of the most important in the country and became candidate to host the games. As Otávio Góes, technology manager of Minas Arena, recalls, participating companies in the Concession, still during the design and work period, formed a Technology Committee, with a representative from each company - Construcap, Egesa and HAP. "This committee has established, within the highest level of technology, systems, IT and Telecom solutions under FIFA's requirements and also the government of Minas's decree. Everyone involved was constantly worried about reducing costs". The project's second stage involved a market research to find companies that could best meet the project's expectations and invite them to join in, while establishing a clear definition of needs and obligations. "After a long selection process, the company Johnson Controls was hired to supply all materials and services, with partnerships validated by the Technology Committee," he said.

"Johnson Controls conducted a comprehensive market survey to select its best partners, who could meet the solidity of the company and that had adequate staff with the potential to empower their employees." Due to this concern, the design, supply and installation of the company's liability systems were performed in record time, between March and December "The deadline, compared to other arenas, was exceptional. A challenge that has only been achieved thanks to the previous preparation made by Johnson Controls and its partners." adds Miranda. In this first stage of the project, the security system is comprised of 275 High Resolution HD fixed cameras, and 89 High Resolution HD dome mobile cameras, with optical and digital zoom, a total of 364 cameras. Regarding the parameters when choosing theses equipments, Miranda recalls that Johnson Controls selected models manufactured by Sony and an image management system by Milestone. "The selection took into account various types of cameras according to the needs of each one." Thus, for fixed cameras the Sony SNC-DH180 models were used with antivandalism protection and infrared illuminator, ensuring better-quality images even in darkness. "These are high-resolution HD models at 30 frames per second and PoE system (Power Over Ethernet), that allow power to run on the same data cable, which simplifies the infrastructure," he explains. For mobile cameras speed dome Sony SNC-ER520 were used. With them it is possible to have a 360º continuous rotation with better-quality images in a wide range of view. The model also has 36x optical PTZ functions and 12x digital zoom, with a ratio of 432X total zoom. This camera system is powered by hpoe (High Power Over Ethernet). The cameras were installed at strategic locations to allow monitoring of the internal areas, areas of interest, bleachers and critical sectors. They are located in corridors, within the parking lot, turnstiles area, field and many other places. Central Operation Room and Systems Integration All images generated by the CCTV system are converted to Mineirão's Operations Control Center. "These pictures are monitored in real time for safety reasons, particularly during event days. There is a software for CCTV's operation and management. All images are stored on a server for a specific amount of time." says Otavio Goes, Technology Manager of Minas Arena.

3 To control such image volume, there are two Central Operation Rooms inside Mineirão's stadium, next to the rooms for crisis management. It is a large room, in which all of the Arena's systems are available to the operators: CCTV, automation, sound, editing and operation of big screen and digital signage, access control, fire detection alarm and others. "These rooms process the images of all 364 security cameras, besides the lighting systems, alarms, big screen, air conditioning and IT system in four 42-inch monitors," says Goes. In Mineirão's Control Room there is a 80-inch videowall showing images of sensitive areas or selected by the Military Police. "In the days of matches, in the Operational Control Center Military, the Police officers, fire brigade, police and civil authorities responsible for the Minas Arena stadium security also have to work. They also use the pictures in the monitors to do their job of protecting the public and taking action to contain riots ". To manage all the images that go through the more than 300 cameras in the system, Johnson Controls has chosen the management software CCTV Milestone Corporate 5.0 C, which monitors and stores images. "The Milestone Corporate is a powerful video management software designed for large-scale IP. Among the its advantages is the support for an unlimited number of cameras, users and sites. This system provides high performance for high risk security installations. All storage and management are done by redundant servers to ensure system availability," says Goes. Well structured Multiarena In a project of this scale, not just the cameras must have higher quality. Everything should be grand and others security systems of Mineirão Stadium follow this rule. The project was based on the recommendations and standards of NFPA, more demanding than usual. The product's technology is top of the line in this segment and solutions were introduced that exceeded original specifications. Six fire alarm panels were installed within the stadium. The main panel with display was installed in the security room and through it the operator interacts with the system. Each panel operates independently and the system also has a repeater panel, which is installed in an easily accessible place. Besides the utilities control, the system is under LEED certification. "Through controlling programmable automation, the Metasys system can create controls and programming logic to control field illumination, interior lighting, chillers, air conditioning, sequencing pumps, elevators and other equipment. The air conditioning system also meets the requirements of LEED regarding the design of outside air system, filtration system of equipments and use of environmentally friendly gases." Altogether, there are six chilled water centrals, nine chillers and six cooling centrals, to a sum up of 1300TRs. For cabins and corridors, 383 coolers were installed. "For technical rooms 62 Splits were used, and for the box office, clinic and police station, four VRF systems. In the VIPs, lounge and press areas, hydronic cassettes were used. " In the project, the legacy was one of the key points considered, even before FIFA events. According to Otávio Góes, Mineirão s new infrastructure has hosted four official games and a mega show of British singer Elton John, and several other events. The system records all transactions in database management and generating statistical reports, as well as billing. There are currently installed 13 entry gates and 13 exit gates. On match days, the billing is carried out in the cabin entrance with flat rate and, on regular days, the billing is made according to the amount of time the vehicle has stayed inside the parking lot. There are billing areas in strategic point for validating parking tickets.

5 To see and be seen The Open TV Circuit System is another item that was designed under great care. In It there are inch monitors that were placed all over the stadium. Besides them, Mineirão has LED screens. The screens were installed attached to the roof structure by means of a special structure above the score of the field on both sides, and each one is 98.3 m 2. Super safe systems In terms of infrastructure, the project of the Mineirão also was carried out with caution. The project includes the use of cuttingedge solutions, with high levels of performance, security, mobility and quality of service through a converged technological architecture that meets the current needs of modern Arena. The architecture is based on a two-tier structure: Core (primary area) and Access (switches rooms). For purposes of redundancy and high performance, two primary areas (in dual configuration) form a dual star architecture connecting the areas of access through fiber optic links. The interconnection between all telecommunication rooms is made through a 10Gb backbone (CORE SWITCH - SWITCH ACCESS) with fully redundant modular equipment in the core layer (core switches), operating under load balancing. The core switches will be responsible for focusing on 10Gb connections with piles of access switches, proving connectivity for servers, storage and Data Center switches in 10Gb. They also provide connectivity to the devices that compose the IP telephony solution (call processor system, voic , voice gateway and analog GSM gateway) and wireless solution (controller). The Data Center Switches are responsible for linking the Core switch to the internet output block that consists of a pair of firewalls and access routers, offering connectivity to the servers block that deliver services to the Arena, such as network management, network controllers, servers, CCTV, access control servers and others. The access layer devices have duplicate connections (for battery or different modules) and a connection with every 1Gb core equipment (Core). They are responsible for providing connectivity to users from different areas; to IP phones, wireless access points, CCTV cameras, data points, video playback devices and digital signage, etc. The integration between the systems was progressive. After the network was arranged, the systems were gradually introduced and tested. At the end, the integration occurred naturally. The main PTAs rooms are interconnected among each other and with the technical rooms with redundant fiber optic through separate ways. "From the technical rooms (LTA) the horizontal cabling is structured and serves the interconnections of workstations, CCTV cameras, access control, antennas, access points, phones (analog and IP), IP TV and other network points in a 1GB or 10GB of speed. The optical backbone between the PTA and LTA rooms and the interconnection of the two PTA rooms supports up to 10GB of speed and between rooms PTA and SC. All network points and patch panels are identified according to the specified standards", explains Johnson Controls executive. All items and materials that form the structured cabling (UTP and fiber optic) are from the same manufacturer; they are ANATEL, UL and ETL certified and have a 25-year warranty.

For optical cabling between the PTAs rooms, each fiber optic backbone was Installed with 6FO, MM, 50 microns, OM4, 850nm, bandwidth MHz/kml.
