13 March 10, 1908, City Meeting: The Fire Committee requested further time to investigate and report on the proposed new Fire apparatus and building and upon motion of Cooper seconded by Hutchism the meeting was ordered adjured to tomorrow evening March 12, at 7:30 p.m.
14 March 12, 1908, City Meeting: New Engine, Building, Alarm system Upon motion of Partridge seconded by Martin it was ordered that the City Clerk be directed to advertise for bid for following Fire Department supplies. One third size steamer and equipment, 3000 feet 2 1/2 hose, a complete Gamwell Ten Box Fire Alarm system successful bidder to take pay for same in Fire Department 30 year 4 1/2% interest baring Bonds at par and also to purchase for cash at par enough more of said Bonds to make $25,000 the total amount of the Fire department Bond issue.

16 March 31, 1908, City Meeting: The report of the Fire Committee recommending the acceptance of the id of The American Fire Hose Co. Dallas Texas for certain Fire Apparatus consisting of Fire Engine, Hose, one set State Double Harness, and Gamwell Fire Alarm System as set forth in its bid, and upon the terms there in specified was read and upon motion of Martin seconded by Rasmessen the report was adopted. Resolution No. 171 Providing for the acceptance of the bid of the American Fire Hose Company to furnish delivered at Tucson Fire Supplies consisting of One Standard third size Nott High Efficiency Piston Valve System Fire Engine with extras and equipment complete, 3000 feet heavy standard first quality 2 1/2 inch four Calendared Cotton rubber lined fire hose, one set of Hale double harness and Hamer and a complete two circuit twenty box Gamwell Fire Alarm system for the sum of $14, payable in Fire Department 4 1/2 % 30 year Bonds and also providing that said Company is to accept the entire issue of $25, Fire Department 4 1/2% 30 year Bonds at par, and upon 10 days after said 00 is notified that the Bonds are signed and ready for delivery, to rebate to the City of Tucson the sum of $10, in Cash and further providing that the Mayor and Recorder be authorized to sign and agreement with said Co. and the city recorder instructed a certified copy of said Resolution to the said American Fire Hose Company, was made and upon motion of Martin seconded by Partridge the Resolution was adopted by all members voting aye.

23 January 11, 1909, City Meeting: It was moved by Mose Drachman seconded by Myers that the Council resolve itself into a committee of the whole on the different repots and begin with the Fire Department report. Motion Carried and so ordered After a lengthily discussion by the following motion on the proposed purchase of horses, City attorney Richey on the liability of the City in case of fire without protection Mr. Drachman mentioned the fact that $9, odd only was available for building and purchasing site for Fire House and installation of the Gamwell Alarm System and suggested the sale of City lots for the purchase of a Fire House site. Martin replied that the Fire department was already in possession of a triangular lot opposite the SP. Co. Passenger Depot the same having been dedicated for the benefit of the Fire Department by a former Council and submitted the following figures. $10, available cash with the highest estimates as follows $7, for building $1, for horses $ for harnesses $ for incidentals $ for installation of Alarm System leaving $1, reserve. Lastridge promised to have Engine in readiness for any service within two or three days and Fire Chief stating that Mr. Cameron had two horses suitable for the Fire Engine. Upon motion of Drachman seconded by Martin the entire matter in regard to putting Engine in readiness was referred to the Fire Committee with power to with.

25 January 18, 1909, City Meeting: Chairman Partridge of the Fire Committee reported verbally as follows: 1st. The Fire Engine has been put in service in temporary quarters at the Arizona stables for the monthly rental of $30.00 the same to include quarters for the Engines 3 horses and 2 men. 2nd. That the American Fire Hose Co. has been communicated with and asked if upon a telegraphic order they would deliver to the City the necessary equipment to enable the City to use 3 horses on the new Engine it having been determined by the Fire Committee and Chief Barkley that 3 horses of fair weight would be probable and more economical that the use and dependence upon 2 horses
26 January 18, 1909, City Meeting: The Fire Chief was asked for a list of the necessary tools such as spanners, axes, etc previously reported short and upon motion duly made and seconded Partridge and Monier was empowered to purchase same. Mr. Partridge also reported that as against $75 or $80.00 bids for equipping temporary quarters for Engine the same had been done by the department as the cost of about $ The Clerk read the following application from A. Calmes, Robert Allen, Geo. R. Dunn, Daniel Maye and W. R. for the position of Engineer of the new Fire Engine and from Chas A. Blackhorn, Ed Wassingieher, T. H. Finn, Clarence H. Bauer, J. T. Johnson, Earl Dollarhide and B. F. Finn for the position of Driver of the same. Also the petition of Nabor Cruz and Jesus J. Duste for the position of Driver of Chemical Engine #1. The Mayor appoints Daniel Maye Engineer of Steamer on 60 days trial and upon recommendation of Chief Barkley appoints Nabor Cruz Driver of Chemical Engine #1 and upon motion of Partridge seconded by Drachman the appointments were confirmed.

29 March 1, 1909, City Meeting: The Mayor suggested to advisability of connecting the new Jim Steamer with a water heater in the present temporary quarters to elevate the serious delay in getting up steam and after discussion the matter was referred to the Fire Committee. March 15, 1909, City Meeting: Coun- cilman Partridge of the Fire Committee reported that the three horse hitch was completed with the exception of the Collars and snaps necessary and thought the same would arrive shortly and that when the same was ready for use the doors as the temporary Fire Station would need altering. That two Fire Apparatus Companies had been written to in reference to a heater for the Fire Steamer and that Mr. Russell is installing a heater now to try out and show that it is more economical and if this proves satisfactory, pipes could be laid in the new Fie House before the concrete floor is put in. That he had suggested to Mr. Brown, Superintend of the Water Department, that he get estimates on a telephone line to be run to both Pumping Plants and asked him if the oiling and painting of the Fire Plugs had been completed.

32 April 5, 1909, City Meeting: Councilman Partridge, Chairman of the Fire Committee states that the heater installed by Mr. Russell in the temporary Fire quarters works very satisfactorily, but that it is the intention of the Committee to use a different kind of a heater in the new station. That the 3 horses bought are now in use on the Engine and everything is working in good shape, and that the Fire Department as it stands today is a great credit to the City. Also reporting in to condition of the apparatus in the Church St. Station and submitted separate bids from the F. Ronstadt Co. for the repairing and painting of the Hose Wagon, Chemical Engine and Hook and Ladder Truck and upon motion duly made and seconded it was ordered that the Chemical Engine be repaired and painted and the bid of the F. Ronstadt Col thereon be accepted.

34 May 12, 1909, City Meeting: S. W. Purcell on behalf of the Tucson Volunteer Fire Department asked the Council to name the new Fire Steamer in honor of D. J. Boleyn the Fire Chief of the Fire Department of the City whom the only protection was the Bucket brigade and who had taken an active part in the department since its inception until the present time. Upon motion of Councilman Partridge seconded by Councilman Drachman the Clerk was instructed to notify D. J. Boleyn of the action of the Council and to procure a metal plate inscribed Jack Boleyn No. 1 the same to be placed on the new Steamer. Upon the Clerk stating that the fire Engine driver and Engineer at the Scott Street Station had a mascot which was not licensed, which said mascot accompanied the Engine on all runs and did regular volunteer fire service it was upon motion duly made and seconded, ordered that the a gratuitous Dog license be issued for Jack the Mascot.

36 June 24, 1909, City Meeting: Councilman Disherman as Chairman of the Fire Committee stated that the new Fire House is now occupied by the Department that the small gas heater on the Engine is a mere gas stove and that in case of a fire at a short distance there would be a delay of several minutes before steam could be had and the Engine in operation that this heater is now located on the side of the Engine is bar, that he was not in a position at present timed to recommend any particular kind of heater but thought a small for the purpose available: Also that the coal now used is poor quality being full of slate and shale and recommended the purchase of Cinder Coal which is expensive but thought it available to have the best Further stating the Daniel Maye the Engineer is on a leave of absence from the SP. Co. that he has spoken to Mr. O Leary who has been after Mr. Maye to return to work, that as an employee of the R.R. he would make from $130 to $140 per month and that if the salary was raised Mr. Maye would like to remain in the service of the City and recommended that his salary be raised from $100 to $ per month. Upon motion of Councilman Martin seconded by Councilman Jacobus the Fire Committee was instructed to look into the matter of a Steam Heater with power to act.
