6 Scenario: A specialist business and enterprise college in the South of England is the designated school in its vicinity for students with physical disabilities who are integrated in mainstream education. These students are often taught in first floor classrooms. Building regulations state that any non-domestic structure with more than one storey must provide a safe area of refuge for any person who cannot easily use fire escapes, lifts or stairs. Therefore in the event of a fire or other emergency they need to be able to gather in an elected area while the emergency services carry out an assessment or evacuation. There is a Solution Solution: All disabled students were issued a 701r or 702r radio transmitter, which when activated, sent a signal to a 768r radio receiver. A specially installed light turns green to show the signal is successfully sent. This is received by staff, enabling them to pinpoint the student s location. Dedicated cameras were also installed in the refuge areas, which transmitted images to a central monitor placed at the main reception area. Products: 701r Radio Transmitter 702r Radio Transmitter 768r Radio Receiver For more details on the products discussed, please refer 6 Specification Solutions for Security Systems - Expertise and Support for your Project CC2897- Security_Specification Brochure.indd 6 29/05/ :19:02
7 Scenario: A nationally acclaimed Zoo designed a habitat to breed and study Sumatran tigers. Five times the size of the previous enclosure, the facility incorporated the differing environments of their natural tropical landscape, with areas viewable by the public. The zoo required a system that would protect the keepers when carrying out tasks in specific areas by enticing the animals to a different section. To do this the zoo acted upon research that found tiger s associate activities such as feeding with different sounds and frequencies. for Every Scenario... Solution: A Scantronic 710r panic attack button was installed, and connected to a 762r receiver. Sounders were then placed in different areas of the enclosure. These sounders emit a frequency when activated drawing the tigers to desired areas enabling keepers to work safely. The system is controlled by the zoo s Public Address (PA) system. Products: 710r Panic Attack Alarm 762r Radio Receiver 760ES Radio Sounder to the Eaton Security business product brochures. 8 Scenario: A global company has a 24 hour manufacturing facility, including several laboratories across their site. The work carried out in its laboratories involves the use of hazardous chemicals, which could have potentially serious consequences for the scientists working there in the event of an accident. There is usually just one scientist in each laboratory and they will often work for lengthy periods on their own. Therefore, in the event of an accident that incapacitates a scientist, an alarm system was required to immediately alert other staff at the facility. There is a Solution Solution: All scientists now wear a Scantronic 706r lone worker transmitter. As well as being robust and reliable, the 706r has an integral tilt switch, which means that the button does not need to be pressed to send an alert as it can tell if a person falls. Once an alert has been sent it goes through to an Eaton Security alarm panel, which not only triggers an audible alarm, but also displays on the keypad exactly where the person is. The additional functionality of the alarm panel allowed for monitoring of other vital equipment such as boilers, freezers and test equipment, sending a signal to the office area if there is an operational fault. Products: 706r Radio Transmitter EXP-R10 Receiver Eaton Security Alarm Panel For more details on the products discussed, please refer 8 Specification Solutions for Security Systems - Expertise and Support for your Project CC2897- Security_Specification Brochure.indd 8 29/05/ :19:40
9 Scenario: A top UK Heritage site run largely by unpaid volunteers as well as a small number of full time staff suffered from a series of thefts of high-grade manufacturing materials and needed to increase security. The historic nature of the building meant that highly visible cable runs and the like were not appropriate. for Every Scenario... Solution: With the installation of an Eaton Security alarm system, a backbone cable was able to be installed between three buildings, and keypads, hard-wired and radio detectors were able to be hung throughout the sites. This minimised both installation time and the disruption caused to the site. A dedicated keypad was installed in each area, allowing them to be programmed and controlled separately. This allowed for higher risk areas to be controlled by staff with high level security proximity tags, while the volunteers were allowed access to lower risk areas by an entry code, without setting off an alarm in high risk areas. 13 Regulations to Consider: Eaton has kept pace with changing alarm industry standards. In May 2012 a new revision of PD6662 became mandatory, and a new standard, BS8243, replaced the older DD243:2004 for alarm systems requiring police response. All alarm systems installed within the European Union must meet some basic standards in order to be accepted by insurance companies, and to be allowed to summon a police response. 1.
