12 Principles of Operation Flow Profile Most flow meter types require sufficient straight piping run upstream to produce a fully developed flow condition Out of Plane Elbows Produces a full counter-propagating swirl that can persist for >40 diameters Single Elbow Distorts the flow profile for a short distance before resuming to fully developed Page 12

13 Principles of Operation Flow Profile When applications present limited straight piping conditions the flow profile at the point of measurement will not be fully developed; this will affect the accuracy of most flowmeters. All Siemens Clamp-on meters have the ability to correct for the theoretical flow profile based on actual piping with the use of the on-board Pipe Configuration Menu Tool. 15 Principles of Operation Reflexor (Doppler) When liquid contains excessive undissolved gases (air) or solids; Doppler technology may be required. In Sitrans clamp-on meters Doppler technology is called Reflexor mode. Reflexor is available in NEMA-4 FUS, FUP, and FUE transmitters Reflexor operates on Doppler (freq) shift caused by sonic reflections off particles (bubbles) suspended in the flowstream Page 15

16 Principles of Operation Transit-Time & Reflexor Some applications flow clean liquids at times and dirty (aerated) liquids at other times and may not be able to be serviced full time by either transit time or Reflexor.
