5 The ASD-8 Anti-Skimming Device An overview to the ASD-8 Anti-Skimming Device With new threats and style of attacks being frequently reported, Cennox remain a market leader in developing security solutions to effectively fight back and eradicate these challenging and evolving incidents. The ASD-8 is at the cutting edge of ATM protection offering the latest in fraud prevention technologies; from card and cash trapping through to card skimming. We recognise the level of gain for the criminal fraternity is high and they will be using significant resources available to them to try and beat bank defences. It is for this reason the Cennox Research and Development Team dedicated so much energy and enthusiasm into creating a product which can deliver immediate results, the moment the device is installed. Using evolutionary technology, the ASD-8 can detect fascia tampering, cash claws, Lebanese Loop and drilling devices. The ASD-8 automatically places the ATM into Supervisor Mode once the attack has been confirmed, automatically bring the ATM back online once the device detects the removal of the threat. The ASD-8 can also notify the customer of the attack so that they may take whatever action they feel necessary before bringing the ATM back into service. The ASD-8 is designed to be upgradable in the field at a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire unit, making it attractive when compared to similar devices available. Page 8 Page 9

6 The ASD-8 Key Security features The ASD or (Anti Skimming Device) provides proactive threat detection to counter fraud and data theft at the ATM for both Motorised & Dip Card Readers. The device has several methods of detection: - Jamming Technology - Cash Trapping - Card Entrapment - Drilling Detection Page 10 Jamming Technology Cash Trapping The device creates an electromagnetic field to prevent the Skimming Device from being able to record the Customer Data held within the magnetic strip on the Customer Card. To detect Cash Entrapment threats at the cash dispenser shutter for Wincor ATM s. The ASD-8 also detects the NCR Cash Trapping Claw with option to either report or remove the ATM from service. Card Entrapment Drilling Detection The ASD-8 monitors the card reader aperture for the introduction of malicious hardware, i.e.; Lebanese Loop. The system will detect the introduction of any material, including non metals into the card reader aperture. Strategically positioned sensors placed internally on the fascia. The ASD-8 detects drilling attacks where the criminal attempt to gain access to the ATM Hardware and allow them to place discrete data capture devices on the Card Reader. Penetration mats are used as opposed to vibration sensors to alleviate false negatives associated with traffic noise. Page 11

7 The ASD-8 Reporting features SSTS Active Using the existing Silent alarm connection on the Misc I/F PCB, the ASD will raise the alarm following the pre determined trigger time. This will be reported via GASPER/Base 24, or similar, to the monitoring team. ATM Out of Service The option to take the ATM out of service on alarm. Connection options include mode switch, safe/cabinet door. Alarm Panel Contact Utilising the dry contact relay within the device, a connection can be made to the ATM room alarm panel. The ASD will raise the alarm following the pre determined trigger time. This will then be reported to the Alarm monitoring team. SMS Alert Real-time SMS alerts sent via SMS server. 8 The ASD-8 The Fascia Security Insert (FSI) The NCR Fascia Security Insert (FSI) These sturdy FSI s can be installed on the main NCR machines including the Selfserve range. If required, Cennox can colour match these to the pantones of your bank. The Wincor Fascia Security Insert (FSI) An incredibly effective moulding has been created for the Wincor machine. These FSI s can be colour coded to match the brand of your bank and offer an instant visual deterrent to the criminal. Page 14 Page 15

9 The ASD-8 Dip Reader Compatible Solution The ASD-8 DIP protects the card s magnetic strip details from overlay skimming devices placed on the ATM, without interfering with the ATM s normal card reading functions. ASD-8 DIP has the same enhanced jamming technology as built into the ASD-8 for motorised readers. Enhanced jamming technology is harnessed to a sensor array that detects card entry, card speed and card position for maximum protection. The system s functionality allows for ATM s that read card data on insertion or removal. Regular integrity checks ensure full system functionality. Upon integrity check failure (e.g. Vandalism) the ASD-8 DIP has the ability to take the ATM offline by placing it in Supervisor Mode and will output a constant jamming signal to protect customers that attempt to use the machine while compromised. The ASD-8 DIP is available for both NCR & Wincor Machines. Page 16

10 The ASD-8 Enhanced Jamming Technologies ASD-8 Enhanced Jamming Technology Features The increased number of coils in the new enhanced jamming technology allows for a greater range in jamming signal frequency to be switched in a more effective pseudo random sequence. With reported incidents of criminals successfully extracting card details from previously jammed data, the Cennox Security Team have developed and launched a new upgrade to their ASD-8, providing the most effective signal jamming solution in the industry. Rather than just one single signal jamming coil, the new ASD-8 upgrade now carries four and is able to protect a wider frequency and prevent the criminals filtering any captured data. The new quadraphonic upgrade to the ASD-8 is incredibly exciting. 13 The CSD-ARCIS Cash Spoiling Device A revolution in the protection of bank notes and potentially their transportation. The Cash Spoiling Device, CSD-ARCIS, is one step closer to completely eradicating bank note theft. The CSD-ARCIS unit is a small electronic device built into the ATM cash cassettes, which upon activation, sprays the bank notes with an incredibly effective bonding agent which is immediately absorbed into the fabric of the notes, fusing them together as a solid block. The success of the CSD ARCIS is in the effectiveness of the activation and the inability to retrieve any of the notes. Attempts to peel off the notes or remove the hardened fluid permanently destroys the currency. As the deployment of the fluid is only sprayed along a strategically specific location, the result leaves only half of the block of notes fused and the remaining half with the serial numbers still visible. Gas Detection & Prevention Protecting against explosive attacks Blowing the door off an ATM machine is not a new phenomenon. The practice of criminal gangs using explosive devices have been reported across the world for many years with spectacular video footage circulated through various news channels. The sudden increase in this specific type of Gas Attack, is a worrying development for banks and independent ATM deployers. The act of destroying the ATM for criminal reward is not the main concern for many organisations. The potential harm to staff, customers and the innocent passer-by, partnered with the huge cost of reconstruction work to make the buildings and surrounding areas safe, highlights the dangers these attacks can afflict.
