It will be routinely tested once a month. The generator will be stored on the premises for quick installation in case of a hurricane or power outage. A procedure for hooking up the generator is being developed and will be incorporated into the Disaster Plan. When hooked up the generator will operate: - one elevator - the emergency lighting - the potable water - the lift station

2 A false crawl occurs when an adult female comes onto the beach looking for a place to nest but returns to the ocean without laying eggs. This happens when the female is startled, distracted by lights or unhappy with the location. We can all help by: not disturbing a turtle or its marked nest, flattening sandcastles and filling in holes at the end of the day, removing chairs & litter when leaving the beach, not playing or walking in the sand dunes, closing your drapes after sunset, and not using flashlights or camera flash on the beach at night. A FALSE CRAWL AROUND & ABOUT The Surfside Club North herb garden is located at the north end of the parking garage. It was planted several years ago and is maintained by some of our resident chefs. Herbs grow best when clipped regularly. The garden is for the use of our owners and guests. ENJOY! Currently the garden features: Basil Cilantro Chives Mint Parsley Rosemary Sage Thyme Oregano Tarragon is planned in the future. Dill is planted in the winter months but does not do well in the warmer months. 2

3 FIRE SAFETY On June 12 th, Coffee With Keith hosted Ken Gaines with Advanced Fire Extinguishers & Safety Equipment who spoke on fire safety. Mr. Gaines explained the anatomy of a fire and how to most effectively extinguish residential fires. An ABC rated extinguisher is best for residential situations. Fire extinguishers should be shaken once a year to loosen the powder inside and keep them in the best condition. In case of fire: pull the pin, squeeze the trigger and aim at the base of the fire while sweeping back and forth. Every extinguisher has an expiration date on the tank. Once the extinguisher has expired it should be disposed of by discharging the contents on a lawn (the chemicals are actually good for lawns) then place in trash receptacle. Contact Keith with requests or suggestions for future programs. Coffee With Keith meets in the clubroom on the 2 nd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Everyone is invited to attend. DID YOU KNOW? 1) The security of the building was completed this June when additional security cameras were added to the garage and the entrance area. Four security cameras were added to the garage, two cameras on each floor. A camera was also added to the front entrance that points toward the telephone directory area. 2) The new Bright House contract began on June 1 st and it provides bulk Standard Digital Cable Services to each unit. A Digital set-top box is required for the basic service. If you currently have this box, check your bill to make sure that you receive no further charges to your account. Residents have the option of upgrading to higher services but the additional services will be billed directly to them. To schedule a service or pick up a box call Bright House Networks at or visit the nearest location at 333 W. Granada Blvd., Ste 100, Ormond Beach (next to Gold s gym). February & March were very successful with 100% occupancy. April had 93% occupancy. The majority of our renters are return renters. 3

5 Supplement to Newsletter Surfside Club North Dear Keith/Ormond Surfside North Owners, Shell Pest Solutions has been doing monthly pest service at your property for three years since September of At times a question will arise from an owner about who we are,,,what we do,,,or a safety concern about the product we use. We believe the customer should know the answers to those questions and would like to comment for all the owners. Shell Pest Solutions is a small business locally owned and operated by Jeff and Michele (Shell) Colian. We are enjoying our 5th year of operation servicing all types of residential and commercial properties throughout East Volusia County. Shell Pest Solutions is committed to providing quality customer service at an affordable price. We do this by implementing new and improved technology to combat today's Lawn and Shrub Care, Pest Control, and Termite challenges. Shell Pest Solutions performs a monthly pest service in which we treat the even floors on the even months and the odd floors on the odd months. We apply our products as a spot and/or crack and crevice and/or void treatment where pests harbor, nest, trail, and/or breed or hide. To simplify, we use a low-dose product with no odor and does not stain using procedures to minimize exposure to humans and animals. The product we use is a BASF product called Phantom which is registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Phantom is not a synthetic pyrethroid. The active ingredient in Phantom is Chlorfenapyr which is in a class called Pyrroles. There are signal words to describe the toxicity level of a product; CAUTION-WARNING-DANGER and the phantom label is caution. Advanced technology has made the products far safer than in years past and most of us have cleaning supplies under our sink with higher toxicity levels. As required by FQPA, the EPA has made a determination of safety for the U.S. Population, Infants and Children and has concluded that no harm will result to infants and children from chronic aggregate exposure to chlorfenapyr residues. If an owner has concerns such as an immune compromised conditions we recommend the owner obtain a Material Safety Data Sheet and consult with their physician.
