3 Cerex CMS So ware All Cerex analyzers use Con nuous Monitoring So ware. CMS provides the user interface, data logging and analy c gas detec on and quan fica on func onality. Target gas concentra ons and alarm parameters are reported each user configured acquisi on cycle. Running in user familiar Windows on the integrated computer, CMS controls are as intui ve as opera ng a personal computer or smartphone. Installing the UV Sentry with internet access, or adding an op onal cellular modem adds powerful real me remote control and data access func onality. Alarms may be automa cally ed to any address when gas concentra ons exceed user configurable alarm thresholds, and data may be automa cally ed daily. For local opera on the UV Sentry is equipped with integrated WiFi. Simply use a common VNC u lity for access to CMS, data and instrument status. The CMS Data tab displays per acquisi on gas concentra on, data validity and visual alarms. Trended concentra on data is available at a glance on the CMS Data Summary tab. 5 UVDOAS Principle of Opera on The Cerex UV Sentry operates by sending a beam of UV light through the open air from a transmi er to a receiver through the open air. The receiver measures and records absorp on due to target gases in the beam path. A classical least squares regression analysis compares the measured absorp on spectrum to calibrated reference absorp on spectra files per USEPA TO 16 Methodology. Beer s Law is used to report accurate gas concentra ons. Bi sta c Design and Installa on The UV Sentry is a bi sta c design and may be installed and collec ng data in minutes on tripods to allow rapid response to odor complaints, for toxic spill, leakage and release monitoring, plume dispersion modeling, community and work site hazard mi ga on, and more. High op cal throughput allows fixed mount installa ons for perimeter or leak detec on monitoring of paths exceeding 1 Km with part per trillion detec on limits for many gases. UV Sentry transmi er uses a pan and lt head for tripod or fixed moun ng. Power is required at both ends of the sample path meters max for Xenon Appx. 450 meters max for Deuterium (maximum path lengths are gas specific) The receiver also uses a pan and lt head for tripod or fixed moun ng. UV Source Op ons The UV Sentry is available with either a Deuterium or Xenon UV source. The advantage of Deuterium is high sensi vity to a larger set of detectable gases. The advantage of Xenon is long distance monitoring. Detec on Capabili es The Cerex UV Sentry is a long distance mul gas analyzer. Available with our standard gas reference files (Table on right), or with applica on specific reference files to accommodate the minimum detec on limit requirements of the exact monitoring installa on. Individual gas species or aggregate concentra ons may be reported at your specified detec on limits. To determine the Path Averaged MDLs for a par cular installa on using the standard Cerex library, divide the Path Integrated Minimum detec on Limit (PPMm) value (Table on Right) by the distance between the transmi er and receiver. The table below specifies the minimum detec on limits when using the Cerex standard reference library. For specialized, applica on specific detec on ranges contact us. 300 meters between the transmi er and receiver create a 300 meter sample path. Currently there are a number of defini ons of detec on limits used to characterize the performance of air monitoring systems. A common defini on of is the magnitude of the absorbance spectra that is twice the system noise. The U.S. Environmental Protec on Agency s Compendium of Methods for the Determina on of Toxic Organic Compounds in Ambient Air Second Edi on Compendium Method TO 16 Long Path Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Monitoring Of Atmospheric Gases defines detec on limits as the following: The detec on limit of the Sentry MS system is a dynamic quan ty that will change as the atmospheric condi ons change. The variability of the target gas, and all of the other interfering species concentra ons contributes to the variability of this measurement. The detec on limit as determined in this procedure is the result of a calcula on using a set of 15 individual absorp on spectra. The 16 individual single beam spectra used for this determina on are acquired in 5 min intervals and no me is allowed to elapse between them. The absorp on spectra are then created by using the first and the second single beam spectra, the second and the third, and the third and the fourth, and so on un l the 15 absorp on spectra are obtained. These absorp on spectra are analyzed in exactly the same way that all field spectra are to be analyzed and over the same wave number region. The analysis should result in a set of numbers that are very close to zero because most of the effects of the gas variability have been removed. The numerical results should be both posi ve and nega ve and for a very large set of data should average to zero. Three mes the standard devia on of this calculated set of concentra ons is defined to be the detec on limit. Although Method TO 16 was wri en for open path FTIR, the Cerex Sentry MS system is unique among UV systems in that the raw data is essen ally iden cal to an FTIR Single beam file. Hence the direct correla on drawn to TO 16. Using the detec on limit defini on described in TO 16, CEREX developed the detec on limits that are listed here, however it should be noted that the actual detec on limits achieved in the field will vary. This is primarily due to the fact that varia ons in interfering species will result in variability in detec on limits. Cerex considers the detec on limits listed to be a very conserva ve es mate. The end user of the equipment will likely achieve much be er results in the field. Cerex believes it is a good policy to not oversell a capability to our poten al customers.
