1 South African Maritime Safety Authority Marine Notice No. 2 of 2007 Code of Practice for Marine Fire Service Stations Approved DOTFAS Stations TO DOTFAS SERVICE STATIONS, SHIP OPERATORS, MASTERS, SHIPS AGENTS AND PRINCIPAL OFFICERS Marine Notice No. 17 of 2006 is cancelled Summary This marine notice lists the approved marine fire service (DOTFAS) stations. 1 Regulation 118(3) of the Life-Saving Equipment Regulations 1968 requires all fire fighting appliances installed on South African ships to be serviced at intervals not exceeding 12 months by a SAMSA-approved marine fire service station. 2 SAMSA, in collaboration with the industry, has developed a Code of Practice for Marine Fire Service Stations (DOTFAS Code). The code sets out the standards for the servicing of fire fighting appliances; these standards satisfy the requirements of the applicable regulations. 3 A fire fighting appliance that has been serviced and certified by a marine fire service station approved in terms of the DOTFAS Code will be accepted as having met the requirements of regulation 118(3). 4 The Annex lists the approved marine fire service stations (DOTFAS stations).
