1 South African Maritime Safety Authority Ref: SM6/5/2/1 SM12/8/8/3/P Date: 10 August 2012 Marine Notice No. 25 of 2012 Code of Practice for Marine Fire Service Stations Approved DOTFAS Stations TO DOTFAS SERVICE STATIONS, SHIP OPERATORS, MASTERS, SHIPS AGENTS AND PRINCIPAL OFFICERS Marine Notice No.2 of 2012 is cancelled Summary This marine notice lists the approved marine fire service (DOTFAS) stations as at 10 August Regulation 118(3) of the Life-Saving Equipment Regulations, 1968, requires all fire fighting appliances installed on South African ships to be serviced at intervals not exceeding 12 months by a SAMSA-approved marine fire service station. 2 SAMSA, in collaboration with the industry, has developed a Code of Practice for Marine Fire Service Stations (DOTFAS Code). The code sets out the standards for the servicing of fire fighting appliances; these standards satisfy the requirements of the applicable regulations. 3 A fire fighting appliance that has been serviced and certified by a marine fire service station approved in terms of the DOTFAS Code will be accepted as having met the requirements of Regulation 118(3). 4 The Annex lists the approved marine fire service stations (DOTFAS stations). 5 At the time of publication of this marine notice, some marine fire fighting service stations are close to the date of expiry of their, the onus to renew is left to the service providers. It has been noted that some crafts/boats are operating on inland water areas where the service stations may not be SAMSA approved; such service stations are still expected to be SABS approved and are urged to register with SAMSA.
