2 CNdV africa CNdV Africa is a multi-disciplinary practice committed to excellence in the fields of urban design, environmental planning and landscape architecture. The practice, formed in 1988, has a 21 year track record with a 40% black ownership. CNdV is considered specialists in the fields of multi-disciplinary planning, embracing a full range of planning expertise, from strategic regional scale and metropolitan planning to detailed urban and environmental design, landscape architecture, visual impact assessments and project facilitation. We have firmly adopted the principles of affirmative action in our recruitment, staff training and education, and appointment of associated consultants. CNdV africa operates a fully equipped and functional office at permanent premises with access to A0 plotters, photocopiers, and internet access and server based high-end computers loaded with licensed software that includes various word processing, 2D and 3D graphic design, desktop publishing, and spreadsheet software as well as GIS and CAD which is run by an experienced cartographer/computer specialist. The software is supported by a complement of highly competent technical and administrative staff and registered professionals. The four members of the practice have had over 60 years of combined experience in the public and private sector in South Africa.

3 CNdV africa LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE Tanya de Villiers, Professional Landscape Architect, director Landscape Architectural Division CNdV - B L Arch (University of Pretoria) (1989, Honors for design) Tanya grew up in Northern Natal. She completed the practical work for her degree in Amatikulu, Northern Natal. She completed her studies at Pretoria Tanya de Villiers joined CNdV africa as a director in charge of landscape architecture in The firm specializes in landscape architecture, urban design and environmental planning. In 1990, Tanya joined OvP Landscape Architects, later becoming an associate member. During the seven years with OvP, she was involved in a wide range of projects such as the V&A Waterfront development, resort planning, factory site landscaping, rezoning applications, urban landscaping, dune stabilisation/re-vegetation projects, and the landscape design of hotels and luxury apartments. The project Norwich Oval in Claremont won an ILASA merit award and the Dock Road project (V&A Waterfront) won a SALI Gold award. In 1996, Tanya formed Cape Natural Developments, specialising in landscape architecture. The firm was responsible for the landscape design for projects such as the Amic Syringe factory (AECI) Redevelopment of 6 th & 11 th Avenues in Melkbosstrand, Ntlangano Crescent (Nyanga) both for the City of Cape Town, Mitchell s Plain Station and Ocean View Guest House which won the SALI Gold Award in She is past chairperson of the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa Cape, served on the South African Council of the Landscape Architectural Profession, lectured at Peninsula Technikon from 1997 to 1998 and is an occasional guest lecturer at UCT. Tanya won the ILASA Merit Award for Fairview Memorial Garden in 2000 and the Green Trust Award for Hout Bay River Rehabilitation in She was part of the team responsible for the Moddergatspruit project which won the South African Institute of Consulting Engineers (SAICE) award for community based projects in 2001 as well as the Impumelelo Gold Award in Lake Michelle won the South African Property Owners Association Award for Innovative Excellence in Property Development as well as the Mail & Guardian Greening the Future Award in Le Verger - the Orchard Restaurant won the South African Landscape Institute Gold Award in 2007 and Stonehurst Mountain Estate won the South African Landscape Institute Gold Award in Many of these projects have been featured in publications, including the World Landscape Design Top 50 Projects (2007) and numerous Braun publications. With more than fifteen years experience in the field of landscape architecture, Tanya has a thorough knowledge of working as part of an interdisciplinary team and is able to take responsibility for the design and coordination of a large variety of projects. Present projects include the new King Shaka Airport in Durban, Dube City in Durban, Buhrein Estate and Watergate high density housing projects, Market Square in Hermanus, Bay West City in Port Elizabeth and various other projects. He then relocated to Pretoria to study Landscape Architecture in 2004. He completed his honours during 2004 and his Masters degree in 2005.

Winston White, Landscape Technician Winston grew up in Durban, where he studied Landscape Technology before joining the firm in January 2008.

His background includes working for a landscape contractor in Landscape design, irrigation design, landscape implementation and plant propagation.

Winston is currently studying towards his Masters degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Cape Town.

4 Tanya is assisted by : Gavin Brand, Landscape Architect Gavin has been involved with CNdV since He completed a National Diploma in Landscape Technology in 2002, and a B Tech degree in Environmental Management in 2003, whilst employed by CNdV. He then relocated to Pretoria to study Landscape Architecture in He completed his honours during 2004 and his Masters degree in Gavin rejoined the firm again in January 2009 and is responsible for design, documentation and project co-ordination. Winston White, Landscape Technician Winston grew up in Durban, where he studied Landscape Technology before joining the firm in January He has completed a degree in landscape technology at Pretoria Technikon, after completing a National diploma in landscape technology at Natal Technikon. His background includes working for a landscape contractor in Landscape design, irrigation design, landscape implementation and plant propagation. Winston also worked for two years for the firm Uys & White Landscape Architects in Durban where he gained experience on both national and international projects. Winston is currently studying towards his Masters degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Cape Town. Winston s duties include AutoCad drawing, SketchUp 3D modelling, Adobe Photoshop and Corel presentations, as well as other general office duties. Gideon Roos, Landscape Architect Gideon recently joined CNdV Africa after receiving his Masters degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Cape Town. Prior to his postgraduate studies he completed a degree in environmental and development studies at the University of Stellenbosch. Gideon is responsible for landscape design, detailed & conceptual site layout and design, graphic 2-D and 3-D representations and document structure for all work. Christine Thorne, Landscape Architect Christine joined CNdV in January 2009 after graduating with her Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Cape Town. She grew up in Durban and comes from an architectural background, having completed her Bachelor of Architectural Studies (also at the University of Cape Town) prior to her postgraduate studies. Christine s duties comprise drafting work on AutoCAD, Sketch-up work, using Adobe Photoshop as well as concept plans, detailing, design work and general office administration. Nazeema Majiet, AutoCAD / Landscape Technician Nazeema joined the firm in 2004 and is qualified as a civil engineering technician. She also has a degree in urban planning from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Her background includes having worked for civil engineering consultants, having gained experience in the design of services (stormwater, sewers, roads) for housing developments and shopping centres such as Cape Gate Regional Centre and Somerset Mall. Whilst working for Ninham Shand she was responsible for the materials testing for the Berg River Dam. Other projects include the upgrading of Delft Main Road, Delft; Tygervalley Shopping Centre and Paarl Mall. Nazeema's responsibilities include AutoCad, GIS, documentation and other office duties. She is currently completing her Masters degree in City and Regional Planning at the University of Cape Town.

CAPACITY: CNdV africa is presently comprised of four professional planners/urban designers, six planning technical assistants, four landscape architects and two landscape technician. The administrative staff numbers five.
