4 INFLUENCES There are many interests and experiences that have influenced my career choice of landscape architecture and continue to influence the design decisions that I make in my work. 5 PROCESS Although every project is different, I have learned to follow a general design process that leads to the generation of design solutions that are infused with thought and creativity. 6 Socio-Cultural Environmental Functional Aesthetic Economic PROCESS Design ideas are evaluated according to five basic design ordering systems. An idea s relevance and usefulness increases according to the number of different ordering systems that it engages.

8 This civic center master plan incorporated civic, recreation, and commercial functions to activate the neglected downtown area of the town. A fly-through of the proposed civic center master plan was also created to demonstrate spatial relationships. SHOW LOW CIVIC CENTER

9 PINETOP-LAKESIDE TOWN PLAN This project involved a comprehensive review and analysis of the needs of this unique mountain community. The end product was a series of planning options that not only respected the findings of prior studies but also developed new planning paradigms to direct future development in Pinetop-Lakeside.

10 A SketchUp model was created to demonstrate the atmosphere that could be created on the new main street. Layers of open space, circulation, and hydrology were especially important to incorporate when creating a vision for Pinetop-Lakeside. PINETOP-LAKESIDE TOWN PLAN

11 LAS PALMAS The Las Palmas Master Plan seeks to develop neighborhood diversity, create a unique social fabric, integrate site characteristics, promote walkability, reduce the community s carbon footprint, promote recreation, and introduce a new paradigm for the future development of the area of San Carlos, Mexico.

12 LAS PALMAS The client was committed to preserving large amounts of open space throughout this beautiful piece of land; a land rich in ecological and environmental diversity. High density villages were created at key locations to minimize the overall impact on the land.

13 THESIS WORK - THE PHOENIX ZOO My research delves into the world of zoo design. The purpose is to analyze zoo master planning guidelines, with particular emphasis on circulation patterns, experiential flow, and contextual connections. This information was then used to develop a set of design principles for application in a conceptual master plan option for the Phoenix Zoo in Phoenix, AZ. The images on this page represent the initial stages of my design process.

14 THESIS WORK - THE PHOENIX ZOO Several types of graphics were developed to communicate the final conceptual design intentions to people at the Phoenix Zoo.
