1 Fire Evacuation Plan for ROSE Lab
2 INTRODUCTION In the event of an outbreak of fire or in any emergency situation, occupants shall evacuate from the building premises and proceed to the Assembly Area (AA). The Fire Evacuation Plan is formulated to ensure evacuation procedures are clearly understood by all personnel and are carried in the form of a fire drill at least once a year.
3 Aim of Fire Evacuation Plan 1. Ensure the safeguard of human lives in the event of fire 2. Establish a systematic & orderly evacuation plan 3. Ensure prompt raising of fire alarm and activation of first-aid fighting efforts in event of fire
4 Stage 1 Bell ring for 1 min General alert announcement will be broadcast over the PA system (Building with PA System)
5 Stage 2 Continuous bell ringing Evacuation announcement is made via PA system
6 Stage 3 All occupants to follow strictly the instructions given over the PA system Remain calm and orderly
7 Stage 4 DO NOT use lifts Proceed to Assembly Area
8 Do s & Dont s in a Fire Evacuation Evacuation - Do not use LIFTS - Do not return to collect personnel belongings. Re-entry to the building premises is forbidden unless permitted by the person in charge. - Quickly walk down the staircases from the nearest exit and proceed to the Assembly Area.
9 Stay calm, break Fire Call Point and shout to alert others Call SCDF 995, NTU Fight fire only if SAFE to do so Prevent the spread of fire by closing all doors Evacuate by the nearest fire emergency exit. Head to the fire assembly area Do not return unless told to do so.
10 STANDARD ANNOUNCEMENT FOR EVACUATION "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE. THERE EXIST AN EMERGENCY SITUATION IN THIS BUILDING. WILL ALL OCCUPANTS PLEASE EVACUATE NOW, USING THE NEAREST STAIRCASE AND EXIT DOOR AS SHOWN BY THE FIRE WARDENS. DO NOT USE LIFTS."

14 How To Operate A Fire Extinguisher PASS = Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep P : Pull out safety device of fire extinguisher. A : Aim nozzle at base of Fire. S : Squeeze top lever of fire extinguisher. S : Direct discharge at fire using sweeping motion. Hold the extinguisher in an upright position. Pull out the safety device which is fitted to prevent accidental discharge. Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire. Keep a safe distance of about 1 to 1.5 m away from the fire. Press the top level of the extinguisher. Use a sweeping motion to allow discharge to be directed over the entire area of the fire.
15 PERSONAL SAFETY Do not continue to fight a fire if, It is dangerous to do so. There is possibility that escape route may be cut off by fire or smoke. The fire continues to grow in spite of your efforts to extinguish it. There are gas cylinders threatened by the fire.
