Springwood Gardens 2013 Terrible Swift Sword Faith That Moves Mountains Repeat the Sounding Joy Not Guilty
Alpha and Omega Wrestling With Angels All Things to All Men Offspring: Shining Through the Darkness Joyful Assembly Bloom Where You re Planted Morning Fog
2013 INTRODUCTIONS ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN TET [Repeat the Sounding Joy x (sdlg x Fountain of Life)], where the seedling includes Shaka Zulu, Breaking My Heart, Rock of Salvation, Belle Cook, and Heartbeat of Heaven. 5.5 to 6 depending in how recurved, 28 (range of ), 5-way branching with 3 laterals and a V (range of 2-7 way, but 3-way if in bad soil or crowded), 33 buds (range of 20-40), Sev, M, instant Rebloom (including in MN on some fans in some years), fr. Dark pink lavender with etched gray lavender eye; gray lavender plus ivory plus yellow edge; yellow to green throat. Great opener in the low 60 s. Eyezone has echoes in the greenhouse (see website picture) but almost never outside, and passes those on to some of its kids. Those of you who have ordered from me in the past know that I am very straightforward when describing the pluses and minuses of my plants. This one is lovely outside when at its best, but from time to time it will show pinprick spotting. And one year 10% of my lineouts went summer dormant, an unattractive trait, although 90% were just fine. So if you are just looking for a pretty garden flower, I would suggest waiting a few years until the price comes down. BUT IF YOU ARE A HYBRIDIZER WANTING TO MAKE FLOWERS WITH GORGEOUS FACES AND FANCY EDGES AND GOOD SCAPES AND BUDCOUNT AND INSTANT REBLOOM, AND AN UNUSUALLY LARGE PERCENTAGE OF KEEPER AND INTRODUCTION QUALITY FLOWERS, YOU WILL WANT THIS PLANT!!! Or to say it another way, I believe that IF YOU COULD ONLY BUY ONE MORE PLANT FOR HYBRIDIZING FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, THIS ONE SHOULD BE IT! Those who know me well would likely say that I am not an exclamation point kind of person, but I have never seen anything like this for breeding (see website for pics of offspring). It seems to work with everything I put it on, no matter the size or color, and improves them all. Note the diversity in its parentage (especially the genetics of REPEAT THE SOUNDING JOY), which helps explain why it will breed such a wide range of colors, including purples, roses, hot pinks, lavenders, etc. plus eyes. It works with any size (most of its kids are in the 6-7 range, but only because I don t have larger things to put it with), and improves whatever you are working with. This is the introduction that might put me out of business because many using it will find that it levels the playing field among hybridizers (i.e. most beginners will be able to quickly create things as beautiful as those who have been hybridizing for many years). I like to joke that if someone is unable to get an introduction out of this one, they should probably take up a different hobby or line of work. If in doubt as to what to cross it with, use one of my other introductions that has Heartbeat of Heaven in its background or something with Tet Lavender Blue Baby, as line-breeding is often the fastest way to getting something great. Fertile both ways (average pod, easy pollen) and kids have no fertility issues. Why not priced higher if it is that good? While it is a priceless hybridizing flower and really lovely outside when at its best and even on its average days, it is not a consistently great garden flower every day. Because I want as many different people as possible to have access to it, sales will be limited to one plant per person until January, and priority from the outset will be given to those who have ordered from me in the past....$175 ALPHA AND OMEGA TET [Inscribed on My Heart x (Storm Shelter x Jane Trimmer)], 5 (sometimes larger), 28 (range of depending on the year), 4- way branching (with 2 plus V or 1 plus W, depending on the year), 18 buds (with a range of 16-20), Dor, M, Re (and MN instant rebloom some years), fr. Dark pink lavender with very large purple eye and lavender feathers plus white twinkles; triple edge of grape, lavender, and ivory; green throat; slight bi-tone. Rapid increaser with great foliage. Because this plant is so very dormant it does not grow well in the greenhouse, so most of the plants have been lined out outside which means it will not be available until some time in later May. I will pay for the extra shipping if it means your order needs to be shipped in 2 pieces. Easily fertile both ways. Have not seen any kids from it yet since it has always been an outside plant, but hope to see a bunch in May. Limited...$125 BLOOM WHERE YOU RE PLANTED TET (End of the Age x sdlg), where the seedling includes two doses of Eyes on the Prize and Tet Lavender Blue Baby, plus Desperado Love, Druid s Chant, Raspberry Beret, and Light of the World. 5.5, 30, 4-way branching (range of 2-5, and 3-way when crowded) with 2 laterals plus a W, 22 buds (range of 15-36), Dor, M, Re (and reliable Minnesota instant rebloom on most fans), fr. Early morning opener in the 50 s and 60 s. Soft peach with soft red eye and edge trimmed in yellow gold that sometimes shows sharks; yellow to green throat. Color impacted by temperatures, and darker when cooler. Consistent flowers. Great foliage even in high temps. Very rugged grew on the slope on the north side of the greenhouse with less water and snow cover than most of the garden. Fertile both ways, but since an outside flower, haven t yet seen any of the kids. Because this plant is so very dormant it does not grow well in the greenhouse, so all of the plants have been lined out outside which means it will not be available until some time in later May. I will pay for the extra shipping if it means your order needs to be shipped in 2 pieces...$75 FAITH THAT MOVES MOUNTAINS TET 6205 (sdlg x sdlg), where these seedlings include Tomorrow s Glory, Absolute Treasure, Born to Reign, sib of Heartbeat of Heaven, Chance Encounter, Shaka Zulu, Heartbeat of Heaven, Regal Majesty, Clothed in Glory, Fortune s Dearest, parent of Eyes on the Prize, Tet LBB, Lake Effect. 6, 28, 4-way branching (range of 4-6), 18 buds (range of 15-25, Ev in greenhouse (although might be Sev outside) and super hardy, M, Re (but not MN), fr. Clear, full, thick, gorgeous, unspotted dark purple with an eye that alternates between light lavender purple and dark merlot, depending on the weather (see website) dark eye on cold or super sunny days, light eye most of the time; small white edge and olive green throat. Gorgeous blue foliage. SUPER PARENT for rich colors. Fertile both ways but more difficult than average pod setter with fewer than average seeds per pod and pollen not as strong as average. That said, I have lots of kids from it (see website)...$100
JOYFUL ASSEMBLY TET 5703 [Heartbeat of Heaven x (Filled to Overflowing x Way of Life)], 6, 24, 3-way branching (range of 2-5 way) with 1 lateral plus V, 20 buds (range of 11-36), Sev, M, Re (with Minnesota instant rebloom on half and sometimes blooms into September), fr. Dusty rose lavender with violet etched pale lavender eye; pale lavender plus ivory edge; yellow to green throat. Color changes with temps. Good increaser and very hardy. Despite very difficult conditions in 2012, this one showed no hint of the Midwest malaise. Fertile both ways with some interesting faces $75 MORNING FOG TET {[(sdlg x Tet LBB) x Heartbeat of Heaven] x Desire of Nations}, 4.75 (range of 5 early in the season and when plenty of water and when less recurved to 4 late in season and when drought), 24, 4-way branching (some years 5-way average; range of 2-6 way) with consistent scapes that have 2 laterals plus V, 25 buds (with range of 15-26), 90% dormant and 10% semievergreen in GH so registered as Sev but probably all Dor outside, MLa (usually starts in MN in early Aug and blooms through early Sept), Re (and some instant rebloom in MN some years), fr. Lavender cranberry grape with large lavender eye; lavender plus ivory gold edge; green throat. Difficult to capture the color on camera, so the website shows several examples. Perfect flowers; beautiful clump covered in blooms every day week after week. Tough as nails; grown on slope north of greenhouse where there is less water and snow cover. Strong grower and rapid increaser with good foliage. I have not used it in breeding since it has always been an outside plant (until spring 2012, when it bloomed after I had finished my hybridizing season). This plant does not grow well in the greenhouse because it is mostly dormant, so all of the plants have been lined out outside which means it will not be available until some time in later May. I will pay for the extra shipping if it means your order needs to be shipped in 2 pieces.....$75 NOT GUILTY TET 5006 [Man of Sorrows x (sdlg x Rock of Salvation)] where the seedling includes Light of the World, Way of Life, Regal Majesty, Clothed in Glory, Heartbeat of Heaven. 6, 30 (range of depending on year and location), 4- way branching (range of 3-6 way), 18 buds (range of 14-30), Sev, M, Re (but not in MN), fr. Deep rose cranberry with attractive and unusual pink wash and pink edge; yellow to green throat. Good increaser. Based on greenhouse performance, my guess is that in some zone south of here it might be 6-7 way branching with 36 buds. OUTSTANDING PARENT! Passes on the pink eye and edge and great color to its kids (see website). Easily fertile both ways...$100 REPEAT THE SOUNDING JOY TET 5605 (sdlg x sdlg), where the seedlings include Tet Dragon s Eye, Dixie Rhythm, Tet LBB several times, Regal Majesty, Clothed in Glory, Heartbeat of Heaven, Light of the World, Way of Life, Lake Effect, Pirate Lady, Uppermost Edge, Wolf Eyes, etc (range of 5-6 and usually 6 ), 30, 4-way (range of 2-5 way), 18 buds (range of 10-33), Sev, M, Re (and Minnesota instant rebloom on most fans), fr.. Pink cranberry with cranberry etched dark lavender eye and edge trimmed in ivory; chartreuse throat. A pretty (continued on next page) flower, but recommended primarily for hybridizers because of the ASTONISHING NUMBER OF INTRODUCTION QUALITY KIDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF IT THAT ARE THEMSELVES AMAZING PARENTS (like All Things to All Men, 13107, 37607, see website for pics). This flower is a great example of why hybridizers should keep good records of their crosses I would never have dreamed that REPEAT THE SOUNDING JOY would turn out to be such a killer parent without all the records I keep which show it in the background of so many fine plants. Easily fertile both ways....$100 SHINING THROUGH THE DARKNESS TET (sdlg x sdlg) where the parents include Regal Majesty, Clothed in Glory, Tet LBB, Heartbeat of Heaven twice, Born to Reign, Ed Brown, Tet Siloam Ralph Henry, Senegal, JT Davis, Tim Kornder. 6, 28, 4-way branching (range of 4-7; 5-way average in some years) with 2 laterals and a V, 25 buds (range of 13-39), Sev, M, Re (but not MN), very fragrant. Pale yellow with pink blush; darker yellow ruffled piecrust edge; green throat. Makes a big vigorous clump with high bud count even in a large, older clump. Wowed folks at Spring Fling. One parent is lavender and the other hot pink, so the color obviously goes back to the multiple yellows in its background. I tested it and found it to be fertile both ways, but haven t made formal crosses with it since always an outside plant and I don t focus on yellows in hybridizing but sometimes they show up like this when I m doing pink or purple breeding.....$75 TERRIBLE SWIFT SWORD TET {Heartbeat of Heaven x [(Chance Encounter x Shaka Zulu) x sib of Heartbeat of Heaven]}, 7 (range of 6-7 ), 20, average of 3-4 way branching (range of 3-5), 17 buds (range of 13-20), Sev, M, Re (and Minnesota instant rebloom on almost all fans every year), fr. Dark clear purple with lighter lavender purple watermark; white very sharky edge; yellow to green throat. Fabulous foliage and no issues at all in 2012 despite the Midwest malaise where it seemed like almost everything turned yellow or lost a lot of foliage or scapes. A front of the border plant. Would like it to be several inches taller, but looks fine in the garden. GREAT PARENT that breeds wonderful and much taller kids with gorgeous purple color (that obviously goes back to Shaka Zulu) see pics of offspring on the website. Fertile both ways...$125 WRESTLING WITH ANGELS TET (Magic Amethyst x sdlg), where the seedling includes Big Sur, No More Tears, Tet Painted Rose, Pirate Lady, Tet LBB, Uppermost Edge, Wolf Eyes, Regal Majesty, Clothed in Glory, Heartbeat of Heaven. 6, 33, 4-way branching (3-way when crowded) with 2 laterals and a V, 18+ buds, Sev with lots of dormancy, M, Re (including Minnesota instant rebloom on most fans most years, but none one year), fr. Dark pink lavender with gray lavender eye; gray lavender plus ivory plus gold edge; yellow to green throat; slightly paler sepals. A sassy flower with its ruffles and triangular eye, making it very distinctive in the garden. Showy clump. Super fast grower and will crowd quickly, making it an easy one to share with friends Fertile both ways. Inside or outside shipping available.....$75

Special pricing for club orders for auctions or baby-sitting plants. SALES INFORMATION: Each order is important, and I personally choose each plant to be shipped. Plants are state-inspected and rust free. Shipping is by priority mail from March 15 to June 30 (although if I have time to ship after that I will). $10 for the first plant and $2 for each additional plant. Check or money order should be made payable to Springwood Gardens. U.S shipments only. My goal is to send double fans or very large singles whenever I can, but how fast they increase is dependent on how much sun we get over the winter. In any event, I promise you will be happy with the size of your order as a whole. Please note that I usually give extra fans of what you have ordered rather than a separate gift plant. All Springwood introductions have been grown and tested outside before selection. They are not babied or given special care. They are planted on top of a cold, windswept hill with almost no snow cover. The ground around the daylilies is covered with a couple of inches of hardwood bark for weed control. They are given an inch of water a week during the growing season and no fertilizer. During bloom season, nights are typically in the 60 s and days in the 80 s and 90 s, but in making evaluations, I watch how the flowers open when temps are in the 50 s. Introductions are lined out in the greenhouse in the summer (where they are grown in the ground in raised beds, receiving only regular fertilizer and water and sprayed for insects as needed), enabling you to receive large, high quality, blooming size plants when it s most convenient for you in the spring. I recognize that not everyone is enamored of plants grown in greenhouses, but in our climate it s the only way I m able to ship before early June! Bloom occurs in April and May in the greenhouse, and it is likely you will receive a plant that has already scaped. Most buyers report first year bloom (and often rebloom) on the majority of the plants that I send, although not usually in sync with their peak bloom time. Northerners will find that their plants will re-establish more quickly if they request delivery after the soil has warmed up in their area and after hard frosts are expected.
