Now is the Time To... Winter watering is a must. Visit this helpful link on high desert winter watering to read our fact sheet titled Winter Watering. Despite recent moisture -- lawn, trees, shrubs, perennials, etc. - especially those that are newly planted and in more exposed areas needed and will need water. To survive and thrive, all plants need water every two to three weeks. When temperatures turn much colder, water once a month when the ground is not frozen or clear of snow. Watering will need to be done by hand - so keep your hoses accessible. Plants in the ground, especially newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials, need the equivalent of one inch of precipitation per month. Plants in containers need more since they dry out faster. Continue to supply fresh water in a heated bird bath or add a de-icer to a frost-proof bird bath to ensure a steady supply of water

Spray three weeks later and before buds swell with Bonide Liquid Copper Fungicide to control leaf diseases such as peach leaf curl and powdery mildew. Apply a lawn fertilizer with pre-emergent like Bonide Complete in late February or early March as weather permits. Prune ornamental and fruit trees in late February or March.
