Created by guest designers from various disciplines, Quinze & Milan collections encompass parts of a whole rather than existing as solitary objects. These are designer pieces that imbue a space with meaning by skirting the edges of all that is obvious. Pieces that exude energy and push the envelope of design. All our collections are rooted in specific projects, including public schemes, thus guaranteeing an extensive development phase and thoroughly tested results. Furniture designs are available in a standard range of 31 QM FOAM colours, as well as with leather or fabric upholstery.

7 5 QM FOAM COLOR SWATCHES QM FOAM In 1999, the iconic PRIMARY collection kicked off the succes of QM FOAM, a proprietary material originally developed and produced by Quinze & Milan. QM FOAM refers to the result of a chemical reaction between the polyurethane foam shape and different layers, with different compositions, sprayed on to it. It is a flame-, water- and weather resistant compound that can be cleaned with soap and water making these pieces suited for in- and outdoor use, especially for pool terraces, child-oriented areas, and health-care interiors. Offered in countless colors, the coating also contains a UV filter to prevent fading from the sun. QM FOAM ensures easy cleaning, superior comfort and durability. COLOR SWATCHES Based on our technology we will match the indicated NCS, PANTONE and RAL colors as precise as possible. CUSTOM COLORS We may match practically any clearly defined color, specified according to an international color system like NCS, RAL and SIKKENS.

ECOLOGY FLAME RESISTANCE Our QM FOAM products can be made flame resistant by using special foam and coating against extra cost, depending on the volume involved, so to comply with: French M4 / German B2 / Cal.tech.117 / DIN EN (sigaret test) WEATHER - WATER RESISTANCE QM FOAM is water and weather resistant up and above minus 10 C. Our products are 100% recyclable. Lifetime can be prolonged by re-spraying and repairing. We have engaged ourselves in many other ways on the ecological responibility, amongst others through (re-)engineering of our products, packaging and other ways to prolong the lifetime of our products.

13 11 PRIMARY DESIGN ARNE QUINZE / 1999 Stripped to the essence, PRIMARY is the first comprehensive Quinze & Milan collection and a line that deserves to be called a Quinze & Milan classic. PRIMARY kicked off the use of QM FOAM, a proprietary material developed and produced by Quinze & Milan. The pieces in this collection include stools with and without legs (POUF 01, POUF 02, POUF 03 AND POUF 04); one-, two- and four-seater settees (SOLO, DUO and QUATTRO); and a chaise longue (LOUNGE). Soft materials and a simple design language are a tried-and-true formula for a happy marriage. Not only did POUF 01 receive a triple Henri van de Velde Award (Belgium, 2001), but the sassy character of this comfortable, water-repellent collection has made it a hit worldwide: look for PRIMARY in prestigious public spaces from San Francisco and Detroit to Cannes and Porto. 21 19 CLUB DESIGN SAQ / 2005 Simple, plain, bold: three words that describe the body language of CLUB, a design that seems to say: If the basics are right, who needs ornament? Made from our proprietary QM FOAM, CLUB is happy indoors and out. After many succesful years, CLUB is now enhanced with a series of new shapes and solutions. Especially the loose cushions are important additions. The seating cushions are made of a combination of memory foam and wadding to create extreme softness and comfort in just a few centimeters of thickness. The back cushions are made of goose dawn. All loose cushions have removable covers. The new lateral units standard come with a straight back on the inside. But versions with an inclined inside back are possible upon request. These pieces are perfect for large public spaces lounges, lobbies, waiting rooms or for any spot that will benefit from being divided and subdivided ad infinitum. 29 DISNEY The SF Disney Store Headquarters by Clive Wilkinson Architects was a conversion of the historic Royal Laundry Building for The Children s Place, to create an open and collaborative work environment for 230 employees. The existing brick walled structure inspired the creation of brick-like elements for the interior, which allude to the playful building block habits of children. A 20-person Block Conference Room is formed on two sides by foam block walls. When the foam modules are disassembled, they become the seating system for 200-person company meetings. 37 35 GRETSCH DESIGN MARC THORPE / 2009 Marc Thorpe Gretsch is named after the famous Gretsch Guitar building in Brooklyn New York. The cold foam modular seating system for a private rooftop in NYC was designed to act as an organic loungescape to accommodate various types of seating and lying simultaneously. In fact it merges 5 types of sitting, lounging and laying positions into a single graceful form. The various seating elements can be separated and used individually and then reassembled as a whole island. 39 37 ROUND DESIGN DISSING+WEITLING / 2008 University Library Copenhagen Round was originally designed for the University Library, a part of the Danish Royal Library, Copenhagen. Round was created to cater for easy socializing in the lounge areas. By composing the various basic elements it is easy to create a relaxed landscape of seating and socializing possibilities. The new humanities faculty library offers the students a well designed, functional library building designed with singular focus on creating the optimum facility based on users needs. The architects from Dissing+Weitling s project group have liaised closely throughout the entire process with a user group of Royal Library employees. The X-chair provokes a homogeneous interior landscape which is reminiscent of the 70 s in style. 43 41 BW1 DESIGN BÜRO WEHBERG / 2008 Custom made product design by Büro Wehberg, originally developed for the Anita Hass KG shop in Hamburg, Germany. Anita Hass stands for a high-end concept store where you can undergo a full shopping experience. Based on this experience, the furniture collection was developed aiming at more universal seating needs. Büro Wehberg A basic sofa with rounded edges and loose seating cushions that seem to expand out of the structure, leaving also a small gap behind. The loose cushions can have contrasting colours, and are easily exchangeable. 44 DYNAMIC EXCITEMENT Encouraging interaction between employees while communicating the company s brand values and identity were the dual aims of the design of Red Bull s new 1,860 sqm headquarters. Designed by Jump Studios, the resulting 2m offices stimulate employees and visitors alike. 45 43 M2 DESIGN SCOTT WILSON / 2003 Flexible by nature and ideal for large public spaces, the M 2 is a modular seating system designed by Scott Wilson for Quinze & Milan. Three basic units (corner, linear and level units), each 1m², supported by powder-coated steel frames fit together to form the desired configuration. 47 45 FRAME DESIGN SAQ / 2004 Part of moving forward is looking backward. FRAME is a 21st-century remake of the old-fashioned armchair. Familiar and fascinating at the same time, FRAME combines a stationary tubular-metal frame with QM FOAM or upholstered in leather or fabric all for matchless comfort. Its fresh, distinctive look complements any contemporary setting, while blending with equal ease into a more classic environment. FRAME includes one- and two-seater settees with and without armrests. 48 A PIECE OF CONTEMPORARY TOKYO AnAn is a new Japanese noodle bar designed for Autostadt, Germany, the theme park and communications platform of the Volkswagen Group. Hosoya Schaefer Architects won the design competition held by Autostadt GmbH in 2005 and completed the project in The task was to build a Japanese noodle bar that represents on a small area, a piece of contemporary Tokyo. The space is conceived to be both transparent and filled with a range of different graphics and sensibilities creating a heterogeneous, urban whole. 51 49 FINGERS DESIGN SAQ / 2009 An unusual yet unique shelving system, made of powder coated steel shelves and oak, FINGERS seemingly piercing through the steel. Shelves never equal in size and fingers put in three different angles create an organic look symbolizing movement, randomness and chaos, nevertheless offering a maximum of usability. Next to standard models Quinze & Milan offer custom made Fingers. Fingers can be easily customized as it s modified to the requirements of your own wall. 55 53 ROOM 26 DESIGN SAQ / 2004 ROOM 26 has a look that fuses the familiar and the timeless with something different, offering an extensive range of products that can transform an interior into a space that shouts 26 or, when used sparingly, can conjure up a room that barely whispers the word. Key to the collection is oak, a material playfully combined with fabric, leather or QM FOAM. Selected ROOM 26 items are also available upholstered in leather and fabric. Chair, Barchair and Seat are now all produced with easily exchangeable seating cushions. 57 55 DIE KUNSTBAR Wooden boxes used in art transport are covering die kunstbar. What s behind it, stays unrevealed. A metaphor for the church not revealing what happens in the church as its trying to keep hold to its controlling role in society. Those boxes wrap up art, church wraps up the freedom of the mind. The exhibition aims to instil not only a sense of wonder but also some form of awareness in the visitor. Textile and the innovative technological applications thereof are the ideal basic ingredients for artists. 65 INTERACTION On the Airbench Cross, you re almost seated in front of each other. Staying silent is no longer an option as it burdens you with an unpleasant feeling. Verbal and social interaction, giving new energy and impulses, becomes the only standard in community life. On the Airbench Single and Double, people receive glimpes of each other and start communicating out of curiousity. People get interwoven by interaction. In his design Thomas Tritsch underlines the sturdy form of the mathematical figure existing out of five corners. Inspired by medieval fortressess proved well-fortified when built as a pentagon. The result is a broad collection combining different materials: oak wood, qm foam or upholstery in several pieces or in one single piece. 71 69 QUARTZ DESIGN SAQ / 2007 Studio Arne Quinze tackles geometry once again and has furthered its work on forms and faceting, seeking new effects from the wood and creating a chair whose design is a combination of the past and future. Using the most classic of materials, SAQ has successfully made an object with a symbolic shape in which the material gains qualities of luminosity. Quartz is an object of the future that retains the intrinsic value of wood strong and hard-wearing, comfortable and basic. We wanted to give the material a different look without however ignoring its natural qualities. The facets give a dynamic and vibrant appeal, while the surface plays with the light, creating a sparkling effect. Just like quartz. CHAIR

73 71 MAZE DESIGN SAQ / 2006 The MAZE collection was born in our studio, but its genes are of the East MAZE means table in Hindi. Viewed from above, it s almost as if you re looking through the mesh of a net. There s something mysterious about it; it looks different depending on the angle you view it from. Although small in size, the MAZE SIDE TABLE enchants everyone with its suggestion of transparency. Its common sense lies in its flexibility: place it inside, in the living room or in the bathroom, or outside, in the garden with its plastic body, MAZE SIDE TABLE fits in anywhere. 77 75 JELLYFISH DESIGN WIEL ARETS / 2006 A relaxing chair that encourages active use is JELLYFISH, a seat for lounging, for listening to music, for having a bite to eat, for talking with friends. The dynamic JELLYFISH is a modern rocking chair. Owing to the rounded form of the base, the chair moves slightly. It s a seat that ruffles the feathers, so to speak, but in a positive way. Wiel Arets The standard JELLYFISH HOUSE collection is produced in sturdy rotation moulded PE which is extremely well suited for outdoor use, the same frame is used as the base for an upholstered edition (leather and Divina by Kvadrat ), therefore few of these chairs have the same outward appearance. 79 77 HONEYCOMB DESIGN CLIVE WILKINSON + INTELLIGENT DESIGN / 2007 Honeycombs one of the oldest architectural concepts known, inspired this design of a flexible shelving system. Of course we had to call it HONEYCOMB. The individual units are made from rotation-molded thin walled polyethylene resulting in an exceptional transparency and rigidity. A straightforward riveting system allows for an efficient and reversible installation with unlimited and flexible compositions. Clive Wilkinson HONEYCOMB ensures an enhanced structural capacity that allows stacking up to 7 meters in two directions and even allow the removal of units within a built wall to create windows. 81 79 BAG STOOL DESIGN GITTA GSCHWENDTNER / 2009 Gitta Gschwendtner Referencing material consumption, Gitta Gschwendtner has created concrete and woodcrete stools cast from moulds based on paper shopping bags. Their individual, irregular form is created during the casting process. This playful design looks like it s popping up right from the ground. Gschwendtner poses people consume too much today and she wants to turn around the process just like she turns up side down the shopping bag into a sitting element. The concrete version is suited for outdoor use and the woodcrete version for indoor use. This second is a lighter version made up from a mixture of concrete and wood fibres which makes it lighter and more environmentally friendly. 85 83 LITTLE MISS O DESIGN CONCRETE AMSTERDAM / 2009 Rob Wagemans Concrete Amsterdam When UN Studio asked them to design certain areas for their major project, the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, CONCRETE AMSTERDAM based all its designwork, down to the very detail on the specific identity of the owner. Their aim was to create identity within a total space experience: create individual worlds where a single visitor identifies with and which invites him to stay. The dishes, table linen and silverware in the restaurant as well as the division of the spaces are all in a way renditions of the three-pointed Mercedes Benz logo. LITTLE MISS O, which is placed in the children island, is a result from that research and provides an ideal playground where to nurse children and play with them. 86 84 SAQ / Studio Arne Quinze Wiel Arets SAQ is a multidisciplinary conceptual Architecture and Design agency. Pumped by art director Arne Quinze, a team of architects, engineers, product and interior designers translates his style and spirit into working designs for a broad range of projects, becoming infectious creations that pull you into their self-shaped sphere and hold you captive. SAQ also designs collection pieces and custom made furniture for other labels, as Moroso and Swarovski. Wiel Arets Architects investigates and produces space in response to life, the potential of function, the character of place and the nature of material. As well as bespoke architecture and urbanism on every scale, the studio develops products for mass production in collaboration with leading manufacturers. Scott Wilson Gitta Gschwendtner Scott Wilson is founder of MINIMAL, a multidisciplinary design studio. He s an accomplished designer experienced in developing iconic, industry-leading products. His alternating experience within three consulting firms and four global corporations has provided him with the skills necessary to navigate through companies and industries consistently delivering compelling consumer concepts to market. Gitta Gschwendtner aims to fabricate functional designs with a twist which makes consumers aware of why they should purchase the product. Designed to enjoy in the long run buyers can bond with the product as it posses specific characteristics which grow own you when put in your surroundings. She always seeks for elements to creative a narrative design with. She works in the field of product design, space design, interior design, public sceneries and exhibition design. Jürgen Mayer H. Concrete Amsterdam Founded in 1996 in Berlin, Germany, J. MAYER H Architects studio focuses on works at the intersection of architecture, communication and new technology. From urban planning schemes and buildings to installation work and objects with new materials, the relationship between the human body, technology and nature form the background for a new production of space. Jürgen Mayer H. is the founder and principal of this crossdisciplinairy studio. He studied at Stuttgart University, The Cooper Union and Princeton Universtiy. His work has been published and exhibited world-wide and is part of numerous collections including MoMA New York and SF MoMA. Concrete hosts different disciplines such as product and interior designers, architects, visual marketeers and now an urban planning/architectural firm too. Concrete s deliberate choice of breaking away from traditional hierarchies and the dominant forces which dictate the design process today, gives our agency unprecedented freedom. Concrete s designers want to be inspired not just by modern art but by comics too, by ideas from the world of architecture and multimedia, by haute cuisine and the snack bar. They appear contradictory, but, in this collision, the perfect expression of our post-modern age can be found.

88 86 Clive Wilkinson + Intelligent Design Marc Thorpe Clive Wilkinson founded Clive Wilkinson Architects in Los Angeles in He was educated as an architect at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and at the Architectural Association in London. His background includes extensive experience with the design of cutting edge commercial and institutional projects, ranging from large scale new construction in Britain to the interior architecture of some of the world s most creative and leading edge companies. Honeycomb for Quinze & Milan was conceived in collaboration with Intelligent Design in Portland, US. Since the establishment of Marc Thorpe s studio in 2005 he has been working in New York producing residential and commercial architectural projects as well as an extensive body of work in the field of furniture design. Thorpe s work can be defined as routed in function with a sensibility to character through detail. As a young practicing architect in New York City, he carries over his training to furniture design by exploring the impact a given program has on a products form in relation to its performance. This pluralistic approach to design gives Thorpe s work relevance and inherent meaning. Hosoya Schaefer Architects Büro Wehberg Hosoya Schaefer is a Zürich based studio for architectural designs, strategies and research. It was founded by Markus Schaefer and Hiromi Hosoya in With an international network of collaborators, the studio is involved in building design and realization, media installations, strategic planning and consulting. Past teaching engagements link the studio to the Department of Architecture at Cornell University in Ithaka, NY and the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. Büro Wehberg is a Hamburg based studio for design and art which was founded by Max Wehberg in Their multidisciplinary projects range from artistic project development, realization and consulting for commercial clients, production of design products to stage design and artworks. We see Quinze & Milan as a furniture label with a lot of possibilities and a continuation of the DNA of our company. We make it happen for designers and architects and we love to work with a lot of different people. Kazuko Okamoto Kazuko Okamoto s born in Chiba, Japan but currently living in Milan interests lie in furniture and productdesign. In the past she has made tables, shelves and chairs but also cups and plates. Foam and oak wood are her favorite materials to create furniture as the first has the most flexible form you can play with and the second is all about nature. After working in a company she stepped in the world of freelancers, exactly what Quinze & Milan was looking for. Thomas Tritsch Thomas Tritsch founded the design and furniture brand MORGEN in 1997 together with Sabine Mühlauer. He studied art and made his master in environmental installations. When creating spaces like the COCOON VIP LOUNGE, a hotelsuite for Juan Amador, offices for Sven Väth, Bread and Butter or Red Bull his mainly influenced by this artistic view. One of his favorite credos is forming things as simple as possible and creating spaces packed and stuffed with electrifying excitement.

D+W was formed in 1971 to continue the work started by Arne Jacobsen. Arne Quinze Arne Quinze is co-founder of Quinze & Milan and it s related platforms. Ever since he joined the debate on design and launched his notorious Primary Pouf in 1999 a seating object that started out as an experiment to him, like a scientist testing the reaction of a creative outburst he s never been out of the news. Despite his fame as a designer, Arne Quinze still considers himself as first and foremost an artist and visionary.
