Four prominent Finnish designers, Kristiina Lassus,Harri Koskinen,Hannu Kähönen andannekyyröquinn,willbepresentingtheirnewproductsatgalleriacorsoveneziaotto inconjunctionwiththemilanfurniturefair. All four interpret Nordic living through their respective collections. Kristiina Lassus is presentingnewcoloursforherokoaandotanerugsandheradagiothermoinsulatedjugs designed for Alessi. Harri Koskinen is launching a Coatrack for his eponymous Harri Koskinen Works, as well as new sizes and colours for existing items in the collection. Koskinen is also presenting his new designs for Alessi. Hannu Kähönen will be displaying his ecological seats 2F, Fruit Box and Kapeneva and Askit storage boxes. Anne Kyyrö QuinnwillbepresentinganimpressiveinstallationconsistingofherLaine,LeafandScallop acousticwallpanels. Newglowingcolours KristiinaLassuscollectionofhandknottedrugsboastsnewcolours.Theintense,darkgrey base of the Otane rug is seasoned with a rhythmic, flax coloured line pattern. Okoa now comesinamellowmocca,withadelicatefloralpatterninorangeorgreenishgrey.theflaxcoloured Okoa features the same pattern in orange. All rugs are made of a sophisticated combinationofwool(40%),linen(30%)andsilk(30%),ortibetanwool(90%)andlinen (10%).TherugsarehandmadeinNepalusingthetraditionalTibetanknot. Standardsizesare170x240cmand200x300cm. Okoa Otane Onoko ThepatternsappearinginLassus rugsareinspiredbyvariousculturesandtribes.okoaand Otane rugs complement each other as opposites. Between 1994 and 1997, Lassus worked as a design coordinator for Artek, Finland. Between1998and2004shewasthedesignmanageratAlessiinItaly. AftersixyearsinItaly,LassusfoundedKristiinaLassusStudio,whichprovidesconsultancy inproductandinteriordesign,productdevelopmentandvisualcommunication. 2

3 Lassus creationshavebeenondisplayinseveralexhibitions.herworksareincludedinthe permanent collections of, for example, the Design Museum in Helsinki and Galleria del Design e dell Arredamento Cantù, Italy. Lassus has received the Red Dot, Design Plus and FairtoNatureawards.ShehasalsobeennominatedfortheCompassod Oroprize. Newadditions Harri Koskinen Works presents new additions as well as updates to products launched earlier. The wooden, ladder like Coatrack is a brand new item. The modular Shelfsystem boastsanewcombinationofebony colouredoakandgreyacrylic.thetransparentacrylic ends create the illusion of floating oak shelves. The three shelf module is 2400 mm long, 460mmdeepand960mmhigh.Theheightofthesystemcanbeadjustedbysimplyadding orremovingshelves.shelfsystemisalsoasplendidspacedivider. Coatrack Shelfsystem The latest addition to the Tablebench series, launched in Milan in 2009, is a table with an oak top and legs. The underside of the top is partly painted white, which makes for an interestingdetail.theseries bench likesidetablenowcomesinanewsize,600x1200x350 mm. The other standard sizes are 350x1200x350 mm and 400x600x350 mm. The sloping angleofthelegshasbeenalteredinalltablebenchproducts,whichupdatesthelookofthe series. Tablebenchdiningtableandsidetable The versatile Sofabed comes to Milan wearing dark upholstery. FatTrayand123dlglassesforAlessi Fat Tray and the 123dl glassware series are Harri Koskinen s latest contributions to the Alessicollection.Madefrombamboo,FatTrayisbothatrayandastoragevessel,capableof storinganythingandeverythingnecessaryfortablesettings.theremovablelidfunctionsas a tray. FatTray is currently the only wooden tray produced by Alessi; its dimensions are 50x40x13cm. Universal and versatile, 123dl works all day. The crystalline glasses come in 1, 2 and 3 dl sizes and are perfectly suited to serving all kinds of drinks and snacks. Thanks to the carefully considered sizing, they also serve as measurement cups. The glasses stack beautifullyandfitinsidethefattray.koskinenbasedhisdesignona3dlcup,creatingthe smallersizesbycutting. 123dl FatTray HarriKoskinen HarriKoskinen(born1970)isoneofthemostinternationallyacclaimedFinnishdesigners today.hisclienteleincludesarabia,artek,cassinaixc,designhousestockholm,finlandia Vodka Worldwide, Genelec, Iittala, Issey Miyake Inc., Montina, Muji, Panasonic, Seiko InstrumentsInc.,Swarovski,VeniniandWoodnotes. Koskinen s uncompromised, bold design style has gained international renown since the earlydaysofhiscareer.practicalityandstrictaestheticsarekoskinen strademarks.oneof his best known works is BlockLamp, launched in 1998(designed in 1996). Manufactured by Design House Stockholm, the lamp is included in the MoMA collection. Another widely knownproductisvakiowatchseries,designedbykoskinenforisseymiyake. Founded in 2000, Koskinen s design agency Friends of Industry is involved in product, concept and exhibition design. In 2009, Koskinen launched his first namesake collection, HarriKoskinenWorks.Itconsistsoffurnitureandalamp. 4

5 Koskinen s works have been on display in exhibitions around the world. He has had solo shows in, for example, Tokyo, Berlin, Helsinki and Moscow. The latest of the numerous awardsreceivedbykoskinenwastheswedishtorstenandwanjasöderbergprize,granted to him in In 2007, Harri Koskinen was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal by the President of Finland. By international standards, Koskinen s most esteemed award is Compassod Oro,whichhereceivedforhisMuuchairdesignedforMontinain FruitBox environmentalfriendliness The Fruit Box chair is Hannu Kähönen s contribution to the debate on environmentally friendly chairs. Paying attention to the environmental impact of a product requires that threeproductgenerationsareconsideredduringthedesignphaseinsteadoftraditionalone. Kapeneva versatility Hannu Kähönen has always been inspired by the versatility that reduces the number of items we need in our daily lives. His objective was to create a form suited to all kinds of seatingneeds,andotherneedsaswell.kapenevaisagraceful,clean cutbench;byplacing severalbenchessidebyside,youcancreateawiderpiece,closedatthefrontandtheback, to make a living room table, for example. If you turn Kapeneva in a vertical position, it becomes a stool for the kitchen or the bar. It can also serve as a sideboard for serving purposes. Kähönen has paid attention to stackability: five Kapeneva benches can be positioned circularly, thus saving space. Kapeneva is made of Finnish birch and ash: both strong, they are well suited to structural purposes. The bench is finished with traditional soapcoating. 7 HannuKähönen Artist Professor, industrial designer Hannu Kähönen (born 1948) is a versatile design professional.withhiscreadesignagency,kähönenhasdesignedawiderangeofconsumer products and investment goods, such as trams and buses for Finnish and international clients.kähönen sperspectiverangesfrompracticaldesignworktoactiveparticipationat the national level, holding positions of trust in Finland and internationally. He also writes aboutdesignandteachesatinstitutionsofhigherlearning. Through Creadesign, founded in 1981, Kähönen has become well acquainted with the designneedsofthebusinessworld.sincetheearlydaysofhiscareer,kähönenhasexplored material oriented product design and environmental issues, both in design and research projects.thelow floortramsdesignedbykähönenforthegermancompanyadtranzhave a conspicuous presence in Helsinki public transport. In addition to the City of Helsinki, Kähönen sclienteleincludesassaabloy,martela,neste,suunto,tulikiviandvaisala. Kähönen sdesignexpertisehasbeenwidelyacclaimedbothinfinlandandinternationally. In 2001, Kähönen was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal by the President of Finland. Feltturnsintofunctionalart Anne Kyyrö Quinn, who is known for her sculptural felt textiles, will be introducing a decorative acoustic wall installation combining several of her textile structures in Milan. The Scallop, Laine and Leaf patterns will undulate in and out of the wall bringing colour, texture,softnessandasenseofmovementtothesurroundingspace.theplayoflightonthe surfaceofthetextilescreatesinterestingopticalillusions. 7

8 Scallop Leaf Laine The three time Good Design Award winning wall panels by Anne Kyyrö Quinn feature superb acoustic properties based on the use of 100% wool felt. The main material, felt, absorbsthesoundandreducesthenoiselevelssignificantly.kyyröquinn ssignaturethreedimensional surface structure plays an important role in bringing down the noise levels. Theintricatelystructuredsurfacedesigncreatestinycavitiesthatwickssoundwavesinto thelayeroffabricunderneath. Kyyrö Quinn broke fresh ground when she used the material to pioneer a striking range of three dimensional textiles. Eschewing traditional ornamentation, her signature style peels away surface embellishment to expose the core substance and structurethatsuchrobustmaterialscanhave. Inadditiontowallpanels,KyyröQuinnhasusedfelttodesignblinds,lightingandcushions andtoupholsterfurniture.apartfromfelt,thedesignerhasworkedwithlinenandleather, which is similar to felt as a material. Collaboration with architects and interior designers has brought Kyyrö Quinn s textiles in to the public eye. Working on an architectural scale enables her to take natural fabrics in new directions. Kyyrö Quinn has stretched textiles across huge surface areas to line interiors with soft inner skins producing organic fabric wallinstallations. Anne Kyyrö Quinn s clients include commercial enterprises as well as private customers. The majority of her pieces is exported to United States, Europe and the Middle East. Her wallinstallationshavebeencommissioned,amongstothers,byanumberofinternationally well known companies such as Virgin Atlantic, Warner Bros., Nokia, Marriott Hotels, BBC, DeBeersDiamonds,HSBC,TheLawnTennisAssociationandWHotels.Amongsttherecent projects are Boa Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles as well as the newly opened Wit Design Hotel in Chicago, where over 400 of Kyyrö Quinn s wall panels were fittedtotherooms.
