He and his wife had just moved into an apartment and needed an engraved name plate to identify the buzzer to the Humanns new home in London, Ontario. Keen to find a solution, Mr. Humann decided to create his own name plate and sell them to others. 5 FEATURE PROJECT Ivey School of Business Building Project overview: A newly constructed, architecturally distinctive building for the Ivey School of Business at Western University required way-finding signage, a unique curved ledge containing donor s names, and additional commemorative plaques and decorative elements. Challenge: All components needed to blend seamlessly with the building s interior modern aesthetic. The curved donor recognition ledge was in a high traffic area where it would be prone to vandalism and the material specified would not conform to the complex shape. Additionally, the stairwell identifier signage plates were too heavy to adhere to the walls. Solution: To maintain the desired appearance, alternate materials and methods for affixing the signage had to be sourced. To achieve the curve, we screen-printed on a conformable material specified by our in-house engineering team, that would prevent students from tampering with the ledge. For the signage plates, we maintained the architect s vision by finding a lighter material with a similar appearance and used an alternate adhesive to ensure it would be long-lasting. Challenge: To execute a multi-application project for national brand identification including on-site installation from branch to branch. 8 FEATURE PROJECT YMCA Greater Toronto Area Wall Mural Raised Cut Out Logo Decorative, Vibrant and Fun Graphics Project Overview: A lively, active facility, the YMCA in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) required graphic installations to enhance and define their location without any permanent installations or renovations to the existing structure. Challenge: The YMCA was not permitted to paint any common areas, such as the walls or floors in the elevator lobby. An alternate solution was required to define the space, establish private areas and communicate to visitors the YMCA s mandate of activity and inclusiveness. Solution: By using removable vinyl, our creative team transformed the space with custom floor, wall and ceiling graphics to make a thriving, vibrant environment that aligns with the YMCA s vision. A basketball theme was used throughout the lobby and office area culminating in a large wall graphic of youths playing basketball. Challenge: Precise design specifications were outlined by the Client to match the new building s very distinct aesthetic. The direction required marrying two defined materials, wood and metal, to follow the building s overall design. Solution: New processes were developed to incorporate wood and cast lettering into the unique signage for one of London s iconic new buildings. We were able to engineer concepts and adapt our equipment to meet the specifications. Attractive, Functional and Accessible Modern Institution Aluminum Cut Exterior Signage Challenge: Three companies were asked to submit prototypes for the proposed signage that included accessibility enhancements. INPS won the contract to be the sole signage provider, as our sample was both aesthetically pleasing and of higher quality than the competitors. Solution: Working with the Architect during the design phase of the project, INPS was able to design, manufacture and install a complete signage system that blends seamlessly into the buildings aesthetic and allows Clare Residence to confidently accommodate visitors with identifiers, signage and way-finding directories. Illuminated Wall Signage Project Overview: To manufacture and install hanging and wall-mounted way-finding signage in an outdoor parking garage that would withstand constant exposure to the elements. Illuminated Projectional Signage Hanging Signage Challenge: Due to weather damage, the original signage had to be removed and we were challenged with very specific problems to overcome: The initial height specification for hanging signage created a swing effect that was a hazard, and wall signs that conformed to round concrete pillars had to be secured without visible fasteners. Solution: To meet architectural specifications, an engineered solution to seamlessly attach signs disguising the installation hardware was devised. Cement columns were covered with thin aluminum signage that would conform to the cylindrical shape and allow installation with hidden studs. For the hanging signage, we reduced the height-to-ceiling ratio to lessen the swing effect caused by the wind. All of the newly installed signage (illuminated projectional signage, hanging and informational signage) was constructed using substrates that would withstand exposure to weather. 17 FEATURE PROJECT Donor Recognition Wall, Parkwood Hospital Digitally Printed Donor Plates Custom Donor Recognition Walls Recognizing Dedication and Building a Legacy Project Overview: To revitalize and expand an installation honouring war veterans and recognizing donors, that would more comprehensively pay tribute to the dedication, sacrifice and service of the honourees. Challenge: To create a new mural that would incorporate the existing donor wall and would allow for future additions and annual updates that would seamlessly fit into the overall design. Solution: A new design was created that would harmoniously connect the established Parkwood Heroes wall mural to the adjoining chapel. A glass block cross was installed and accentuated laser cut graphics and vinyl letters featuring poppies and quotations and an easily-expanded donor recognition solution with printed donor plates was installed. When we were looking to create a new donor recognition wall at Parkwood Institute to honour Canada s war veterans, the team at INPS listened carefully to our vision, asked probing questions and presented a design concept and final product that exceeded our expectations and stayed within budget.
