6 LANDSCAPE AWARD OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Landscape Award of the Slovak Republic ( ) Medal of Honour for organisation, which contributes ideologically, thematically and practically to the implementation of the European Landscape Convention at national level The aim of the Award is to honour activites leading to high-quality and sustainable land managment. The award is a tool of motivation for continuous support of landscape management and its honour for exemplary efforts to achieve common goals in the implementation process of the European Landscape Convention. Slovak Republic honoured the Award with the aim to support the successful protection, management and planning activites in the Slovak landscape and with the aim to nominate its laureate to the Landscape Award of the Council of Europe

8 LANDSCAPE AWARD OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Eligibility of Award applicants local and regional municipalities associations of local and regional municipalities (micro-regional associations) cross-border associations of local and regional municipalities which tohether manage the landscape non-governmental organisations Eligible projects... projects with the character of landscape policies and measures implementation that have achieved the criteria of Landscape Award of the Slovak Republic Way of proposal submission Candidates to the Award: can submitt the application of the projects directly, or can be submitted by another legal entity or individual body (written agreement have to be attached)

20 PROJECTS NOMINATED FOR LANDSCAPE AWARD OF SLOVAK REPUBLIC IN 2016 Muránska planina, NGO (Non-Investment Fund) For the Nature of the Muránska Plain removing the migration barrier on the Muráň River - 1.7m high water level and creating a 88m long slip for ensuring the migration of aquatic animals to the higher parts of the river; realisation of the international volunteer camp INEX, which ensured the promotion of the project abroad; knowledge and experience were transferred to the methodological manuals issued by the State Nature Conservation of the Slovak Republic. Special mention of the expert commission

21 PROJECTS NOMINATED FOR LANDSCAPE AWARD OF SLOVAK REPUBLIC IN 2016 Pro Eberhard, NGO (Civic association) Green oasis at Small Dunaj with sightseening tower Nest the aim was to build a recreational zone for the inhabitants at the site of the black waste dumps at the Malý Dunaj arm and to change their attitude towards the surrounding nature; building of infrastructure (gazebo, wooden pontoons, playground, footpaths, instruction boards); watering the irrigation channel; building a wooden sightseeing tower Nest; organising enviro-educational events to learn about the nature of floodplain forests: summer camps Searchers (4 years), water courses for 50 children, etc. Special mention of the expert commission

22 PROJECTS NOMINATED FOR LANDSCAPE AWARD OF SLOVAK REPUBLIC IN 2016 Save the Castles, NGO (Professional Association of legal entities) Save the Castles project conservation of Slovakia s castles the aim is to take care of the ruins of Slovak castles: the reconstruction of the ruins, the reconstruction of the building with the aim of preservation of originality and authenticity, promotion, use for tourism, covers 29 member organizations - civic associations aiming at the restoration of castles Special mention of the expert commission.
