2 The Educational Mission Education must be provided so that future leaders in different professions, who are actually responsible for development of sustainable society and decide a significant part of how our future society looks like, should gain multi-cultural understanding and trans-disciplinary thinking, especially at higher education levels. 2
3 The University of Tokyo started a new graduate program, - GPSS, in October It started as a Master s program at the beginning and is extended to a Doctoral program, which started in October

11 IPoS (Intensive Program on Sustainability) Developed by UT and AIT Started in 2004 in Thailand and continues till now. Short program on sustainability (1-2 weeks) International students: UT, AIT, AGS (MIT, ETH and Chalmers), IR3S universities (Kyoto U, Osaka U, Hokkaido U and Ibaragi U), Australian NU, National Cheng Kung U. Specific sub-topic food safety and security for 2004, food and energy production for 2005/6, Forestry, Regional Development and Glaobal Sustainability for 2007, Food, Energy and Environment for 2008) 11
