Lecture Strategy This lecture is offered in order the students understand that outer space set up should be based on the right consideration with backgroud of knowledge about nature to reach human walfare and comfortability yet still provide the enviroment sustainability. This lecture can give comprehension to students how the complete processof of planning, designing, implementinguntil managing a landscape can be done with funcional and aestethic approach. 1. Face to face strategy and method in classroom to discuss a topic that has been established; 2. Interactive discussion is done mainly to discuss actual issues; 3. Provision of structured task also given to develop the students understanding of the topic or subject of lecture; 4. The results of practical field observation task composed in the form of a report 2
3 3. Rules and Tasks 3. The students should be dressed neat and politely : wear collared shirt and shoes. 1. The presence list should be fill by students and signed by the lecturer, lecturer assistant, and students assistant in the end of the lecture. 2. Lecturer, lecturer assistant, and students assistant should fill lecture and practicalevents note in presence list folder. 4. The Lecturer and students should turn off the cellular phone, and the students should turn off the laptop, ipad, etc. 5. The presence in lecture and practical should be 100% (Exception for logical reason could apply the permit at most 3 times each semester) and practical tasks must be completed 100%. This requirement is necessary to join the final term exam. 4. Assessment Criteria 6. Each reading material including text book, handout or other actual article should be read before the lecture started. 7. The evaluation is done twice: Mid Term Exam (8th week) and Final Term Exam (16th week) The criteria of assessment in this lecture is made by considering these components: Scoring Presentation: Mid Term Exam = 30 %; Final Term Exam = 40 %; Practical Tasks= 30 % Score: A > > AB > > B > > BC > > C > > D > 50 E < 40 3

5 Definition of Architecture Definition of Landscape 1. Architecture: art and science in designing buildings. 2. Art and science in designing and constructing (buildings, landscape, interrior, ship, etc). 3. Method and design style in a contruction (buildings, landscape, interrior, ship, etc) 4. In the wider sense, architecture includes designing and constructing the whole environment. 1. The area of land which was built by humans (outside of buildings, roads, and utilities) as human habitation(eckbo, 1964) 2. the total character of a region (von Humboldt) 3. landscape dealt with in their totality as physical, ecological and geographical entities, integrating all natural and human ( caused ) pattern and processes (Naveh, 1987) 4. landscape as a heterogeneous land area composed of a cluster of interacting ecosystem that is repeated in similar form throughout (Forman & Godron, 1986) 5. a particular configuration of topography, vegetation cover, land use and settlement pattern which delimits some coherence of natural and cultural l processes and activities iti (Green et al., 1996). 6. Landscape as a plot of land that we see around us in a comprehensive manner, without looking closely/broadly covered on a single component, and that looks familiar to us. 7. The landscape is part of a vast territory, homogenized for some characters that can distinguish types basedon the relationships between elements of both structurally and functionally. 5
6 LANDSCAPE Forming Elements: LANDSCAPE classification: TOPOGRAPHY LANDSCAPE MAJOR ELEMENTS HUMAN WATER LANDSCAPE ANIMAL PLANT GEOLOGY LAND USE CLIMATE SOIL LANDSCAPE LANDSCAPE MINOR ELEMENTS Landscape Major Element elements that can be changed least because it has to be accommodated in landscape architecture product (mountain, river, etc) Form : hills, valleys, beaches, lakes, sea, topography, etc Features: rain, fog, temperature, RH, ground water, etc. Forces : wind, sea, air flow, the growth process, lightning, erosion, solar radiation, etc. Landscape Minor Element elements that can be modified (hill, forest, swamp, etc). LANDSCAPE The face and character of the land/site that is part of the Earth with all the activities of life and everything in it; natural, non-natural or both, which is a part or the total of human living environment along with other beings, as far as the eye can see, as far as all our senses can catch and as far as the imagination can conjure. 7 Landscape Architecture Science The art and science that studies space settings and outdoor masses, by combining elements of a natural or man made landscapes, both horizontally and vertically, with all its activities, so that the environment was created functionally useful and aesthetically beautiful, effective, harmonious, balanced, regular and orderly, thus achieved the satisfaction of spiritual and physical and human beings in it. Definition of Landscape Architect Professional employee who gets academic excellencein higher education in the fields of science and art of landscape architecture and is active in the activities of design, planning and management of landscapes. Profession: Landscape/Park Planner Landscape/Park Designer Landscape/Park Manager Professional Certification has been applied since Apri 1st 2002 by Landscape Architecture Certification Bureau Professional organization of landscape architect is Indonesian Society of Landscape Architecture (ISLA).
