2 AIA Rochester Our mission is to promote the profession and practice of Architecture in the Greater Rochester Area. We are dedicated to providing our members opportunities for professional advancement, community involvement, and promoting design excellence in the built environment. 3 AIA Rochester is a Registered Provider with The American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems (AIA/CES). Credit(s) earned on completion of this program will be reported to AIA/CES for AIA members. Certificates of Completion for both AIA members and non-aia members are available upon request. This program is registered with AIA/CES for continuing professional education. As such, it does not include content that may be deemed or construed to be an approval or endorsement by the AIA of any material of construction or any method or manner of handling, using, distributing, or dealing in any material or product. Questions related to specific materials, methods, and services will be addressed at the conclusion of this presentation.
4 Learning Objectives At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) Participants will be able to explore methods for integrating a multi-disciplinary approach into architecture education that touches upon allied fields and topics such as historic preservation, landscape conservation, environmental conservation, and building trades. 2) Participants will be able to develop curriculum that integrates experience with observation; theory with practice so that architecture and other students gain real world, practical experience and knowledge. 3) Participants will be able to explain the benefits of multi-disciplinary and experiential learning when seeking to implement this model of education. 4) Participants will be able to compare Willowbank s model of heritage conservation education with traditional models employed by most American programs and will be able to evaluate elements that might be applied to their own fields and programs.

20 A School full-time commitment; single curriculum all day, every day for two years plus portion of third year more than 50 faculty associates practitioners from Canada, U.S., Europe and elsewhere cost-effective model: $7,000 per student per year tuition: $5,500 per year desired outcomes: sense of confidence / within + across boundaries sense of ethics / within framework of ecology and social justice

27 HUL this recommendation addresses the need to better frame urban conservation strategies within the larger goals of overall sustainable development the HUL is the urban settlement understood as a layering of historical, cultural and natural values, extending beyond the notion of historic centre or ensemble to include the broader urban context and its geographical setting
