5 1 Introduction Module Handbook: "Green Built Environment (BA) Eco-sustainable Architecture and Urban Design" The bachelor module "Green Built Environment (BA) - Sustainable architecture and building design" provides theoretical and practical knowledge about sustainable design approaches for housing buildings and additional knowledge in adjacent fields like sociology, climatology, technology innovation, digital design tools and much more. Eco-sustainable urban design is mainly understood as urban districts with energy-saving buildings of modern standards, but obviously this is not enough to address global climate saving challenges. Future orientated ecologic design rather means planning from an energy saving, resource saving and social integrating point of view. Innovative knowledge in a big variety of fields is the capital of future architects, requiring weighing and applying of eco-sustainable knowledge in the architectural design process. During the 1 semester course a systematic and innovative approach to future orientated quality standards in architecture will be subject of lectures and seminars, showing new and innovative positions and their practical use in the field of green built environment design. 2 Module details Program title/s: Green Built Environment (BA) Level: Bachelor Module title: Sustainable Housing Environment and Building Design Module credits: 6 Semester(s) in which to be offered: 7., 9., 11. Indicative learning hours: 180 Module tutors: Prof. Michael Eichner + invited guest lectures 3 Aims and intended learning outcomes of the module 3.1 Aims of the module The course "Green Built Environment (BA) in Sustainable principles in architecture and habitat" is part of the optional subject part of the faculty for architecture related to the main part Architectural planning 1 and Architectural planning 2 and is a discipline that can be chosen of students between others. The discipline aims on developing general architectural knowledge and design abilities in the field of sustainable architecture, innovative housing buildings and the design of future orientated habitat and provides students with a systematic overview on architectural and sustainable quality aspects as well as innovative research and design strategies and methods for integrated buildings of in the sense of a comprehensive climate-saving and socially sustainable construction of living environments. 3.2 Learning outcomes The student will know general principles of eco-sustainable architectural design for housing buildings and receive knowledge on sustainable certification systems for ecologic and social orientated architecture through lectures, seminars and the design of a housing building, based on international sustainable architectural planning and certification methods. Students will be able to reflect and rethink climate saving architecture and ecological building design in Russia and internationally, evaluate architectural and ecological quality in buildings and prepare independently innovative sustainable design solution of different scale and complexity. Becoming familiar with the application of sustainable knowledge for housing building design of various scales and proofing scientifically single sustainable questions according international certification standards. The discipline provides fundamental knowledge for related disciplines and modules like «Architectural design», and «Reconstruction and restoration of buildings and constructions». 3 P age

6 Learning competence as a result of the discipline: Module Handbook: "Green Built Environment (BA) Eco-sustainable Architecture and Urban Design" Distinguishing building designs according their architectural and ecologic quality with the help of international eco-sustainable certification systems for ecologic and social quality in architecture and building design. Getting a basic overview on the systematic of the European certification system BNB/DGNB, their requirements and sustainable aspects as well as proofing methods and built sustainable housing and urban design projects. Final presentation of the sustainable research seminar and results of all seminar tasks, prepared during the semester. 5 Teaching methods 5.1 LECTURES sustainable + high architectural quality During the semester course, every 2 weeks a lecture, hold by Prof. M. Eichner or invited specialists in the field of sustainable architecture, innovative materials or climate saving urban design. The lecture topics will provide student with an overview and general understanding on requirements and principles of sustainable building design. The sustainable research tasks allow students to integrate step by step functional, economical, ecological and technical quality in their own architectural projects. Information provided during lectures, discussing international problems, related to ecologic material use, energy-efficient building design, sustainable building standards till latest international strategies for development and reconstruction of urban environments according green building standards allows students develop in qualified consultation meetings and additional home study to solve complex architectural solution in a sustainable way and develop quality architectural design. 5.2 RESEARCH SEMINAR Student research on sustainable standards Main focus of the course is, to receive new knowledge about a sustainable questions and design solution, enabling architects to design buildings, showing innovative and sustainable solution at all levels (economy, functionality, sociology, ecology, cultural meaning, Energy-efficient). In a series of research seminars, students will deepen knowledge obtained during lectures in working on sustainable problems and their solutions during consultations with tutors and in home study. To develop sustainable knowledge related to the individual research task, supporting research guidelines and information on best practice projects in green architecture will be provided by tutors, to guiding the student s research steps during the semester. Students have work out for all seminar topics design solutions and combine them during the semester to achieve a complex and sustainable building design, corresponding to innovative demands of energy-saving, socially and economic architectural and environmental design. Based on sustainable research knowhow, received during the research seminar, an architectural or urban design project will be developed. In the first days of the design studio, site details for the design project will be presented to all participants of the course for discussion. The design task and program will be related to actual and future urban problems and aim on the development of green solutions of high architectural and environmental quality. Sustainable, energy-saving as well as economic and cultural analyzing steps will be considered and implemented during the course, with the aim of a synthesis of the whole spectrum of future questions of sustainable architectural designs. Sustainable housing design and certification - NaWoh 5.4 FAB Lab digital design and digital production A part of the course is dedicated to becoming familiar with the use of digital simulation and digital design skills as well as digital fabrication (fab lab) by learning to use during design classes 3D printing equipment and digital cutting machinery, to produce intermediate and final presentation models in the fabrication lab of MGSU. Representing, discussing and analyzing 3D forms, structures and tectonics enables evaluation of space quality during the design process. Tutors instruction on handling requirements and handling manuals for the used equipment will be provided, as well as theoretical background on design potential of digital fabrication in green build environment. With models, produced on a building and urban scale, day light, ventilation or shadow simulation simulations and measurements on physical model will be performed in the artificial sky or the aerodynamic wind tunnel. 6 P age

9 Digital design and digital production, Fab Lab Module Handbook: "Green Built Environment (BA) Eco-sustainable Architecture and Urban Design" 5.5 MATERIAL HANDOUTS Design and research program In the beginning of every semester, students will receive a semester program handout, outlining all necessary organizational questions, content and scientific analytical priorities and dates to intermediate presentations and final presentations. The design program handout will describe and explain the semester project with strong focus on the sustainable aspect is to be developed. 5.6 COOPERATION PARTNERS Construction industry, governments, NGO s To ensure practical use of the semester work, partners of innovative construction industries, city administrations of Russian capitals and consultants in the field of sustainable development and other specialists will be participating and consulting at different project stages. It is possible for the student, to propose and choose research partners for joint research cooperation to construction technology, social issues, energy efficiency and economic innovation in the construction industry. In general, the research and design project is related to actual urban problems and contexts. Quality aspects of architecture and urban design will be analyzed under consideration of international eco-sustainable standards to gain comprehensive design synthesis for building structures of urban territories. 10 6 MODULE ASSESSMENTS PROCEDURE 6.1 ONLINE BASED ASSESSMENT Documenting and presenting To document the learning process, an online based assessment system will be used, giving the student regular feedback, comments and intermediate reviews on the individual research and project development. Works prepared by the student will be evaluated according quality criteria in a system, showing percentage of a maximum reachable result. In case of less than 50% reached, the design or research task is considered as critical, a successful progress is under question. In this case, the student has to do additional work on the particular task. If the seminar task receives less than 30%, it is considered as not presented and has to be prepared again. Assessment criteria table 6.2 ASSESSMENT OF PRESENCE From student participants of the bachelor course 80% of personal presence in lectures and seminars is expected. The presence is regularly monitored and documented. An attendance of less than 80% automatically leads to a refusal, the subject is considered as failed and has to be repeated during following semester from the beginning. 11 6.3 FINAL GRADING AND EVALUATION Final assessment will be taken in the form of assessment of your research report and architectural design project according quality criteria listed in the semester program. The assessment will be carried out by Prof. M. Eichner and a commission of invited specialists on the basis of student s presentations. To test your knowledge of professional practice and processes, your ability to apply knowledge in practice and the quality of your professional judgment exhibited in doing so. 7 Assessment feedback Assessment feedback is provided to students in regular intervals, receiving online assessments and intermediate crediting, enabling them to assess their individual and current research and design progress, understand qualities and problems of their architectural and urban design project to plan their work flow and improve sustainable and architectural qualities. Every student is receiving access to his online archive with a development folder structure, to regularly upload research and design materials according a semester program. A performance table prepared and updated by tutors regularly, allows students at any time during studies to get an overview on their research and design performance. 8 Staff details and sources of help 8.1 Course and program leader The leading Professor of the course is Michael Eichner, with more than 10 years of teaching experience in architecture and urban design and more than 20 years of work experience as practicing architect. The lecture course, research topics and design programs will be set up under his supervision, with tutors and assistants with international research experience and language knowledge will assist the program on all stages including weekly personal lab consultation with students. 8.2 Invited guest lecturers Invited guest lecturers or research consultants will be of international recognition with work and research experience in leading research institutions, innovative building technology industries or contemporary architects with international reputation. 9 P age

12 9 Syllabus outline and teaching materials 9.1 Lecture topic 1 - Introduction into sustainable housing architecture + HOUSING QUALITY Introduction to the lecture The lecture will introduction the systematic of European eco-sustainable certification system for green housing buildings and discusses main quality aspects for climate friendly and social living environment. The historic, scientific and human foundation for the development of green building movement in architecture and urban environment will be discussed as well as general knowledge of modern design and construction strategies, focusing on the lifecycle performance and lifecycle costs of buildings and building complexes Aim and key learning outcomes of the lecture Getting acquaintance with housing quality aspects in general and following quality issues of housing architecture: - Understanding different models of residential accommodation and building typologies with various ways for cost-effective, attractive, and ecological housing construction. - The functional quality and space design requirements and furniture layouts for all functional areas (Living areas, cooking areas and eating areas, sanitary areas, storage, dry space); - The barrier freedom of the access of housing building, demands and requirements and planning solutions. Design solutions for building access and apartment access areas, suitable for handicapped peoples use. - Getting acquaintance with housing quality in general and quality issues of sustainable housing buildings; - Creation of housing buildings and town planning solutions of high architectural and urban design value for its inhabitants and the public in general. - Thermal comfort in winter and summer times, permanent and dynamic sun protection solution, passive and active measures against overheating and cooling. - Valuing and interdependence of transparency, architectural appearance and thermal comfort in buildings; - Visual comfort and sufficient and well-balanced lighting in particular by natural daylight, use appropriate windows- and façade design. 13 9.2 Lecture topic 2 - Sustainable wooden construction + HOUSING QUALITY Introduction to the lecture Wooden buildings are considered to have a very high green building potential and allow for modern and innovative architectural structures and forms. The lecture is highlighting the main advantages of wood for material efficient constructions, light weight and modern façade design and healthy and esthetic interiors. 14 9.3 Lecture topic 3 - Solar architecture and renewable energy + TECHNICAL QUALITY Introduction to the lecture The lecture provides theoretical and practical knowledge of architecture with focus on a maximum use of solar energy in passive and active ways. Discussing realized buildings of different scale and typology, innovative energy saving and energy generating façade systems, photovoltaic, solar-thermal facades, building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) and general planning solutions for climate saving architectural design, using renewable energy resources for heating, power supply, material production and building operation Aim and key learning outcomes of the lecture - Passive an active design strategies for solar energy use in buildings, including natural ventilation, natural lighting and visual comfort as issues for building and façade designs. - Getting and understanding of various building standards like Low energy house, Passive house, Zero energy house, Plus energy house, Zero emission house, Cradle to cradle house, Bio active house. - Resource-saving technologies and optimization of sun energy use, applied in different innovative architectural solutions. - Passive building solutions, utilizing the glass house principle, optimized window orientation or sun wall solutions for energy capturing to reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources. - Design of facades, generating energy in climatic conditions of central Russia. - Active building technology solutions with solar absorption panels, to heat up water or air. - Photovoltaic system as solar panels composed with silicium or other material cells to transform sun light into electricity and their architectural possibilities and requirements for façade integration. - Solar heat storing solution during the time when the house is capturing heat, like cavity walls, cavity building floors or water reservoirs - Returning and transporting stored solar heat in order to use it later at the right moment. 15 9.4 Lecture topic 4 - Innovative materials and production + ECOLOGICAL QUALITY Introduction to the lecture Aim of the lecture is to understand the dimension ecological quality in architecture and the interdependence of architectural, technical and material solution for healthy space conditions. Materials and their energy balance as well as emissions during production and construction effect our living environments. Balancing ecologic requirements and architectural intentions is a key to sustainable architectural design. 16 9.5 Lecture topic 5 - Fascination High-rise + ECONOMICAL QUALITY Introduction to the lecture Between poetics and economics, representation and social isolation, the architecture of high rise buildings and multistory housing is fascinating and problematic at the same time.
