2 TECHNICAL INFORMATION CONNECTIONS 1 Electrical Requirements (All supplied by customer) 16amp 3 phase + n + e5 pin socket weather proof from a 16A MCB with a 3 phase RCD fitted The link cable plus and Socket should be of a suitable rating and mechanically protected. This should be least within 5 metres of the silo legs. Please insure the mains cable is ideally armoured if not at least screened. Customer must have a lead with a female socket long enough to plug into panel on silo. This must be available before our Northstone technician calls to commission silo. Alternatively a generator is used to power silo. 2 Water All hose fittings etc. must be at least ¾ inch internal diameter. When taken from the mains, the pressure must be at least 2.5 bar, with a volume of 900 litres per hour; alternately water can be taken from a header tank. This must be at least ½ meter above the height to the control panel. Customer must have 25mm OD/19mm ID Braded hose with 19mm GEKA hose tails for hose before technician can call to commission silo, long enough to plug into panel on silo. 3 NORTHSTONE SILO SITE SURVEY Northstone will carry out a free site survey at an early stage of the contract to discuss and advise the most suitable location for placing the silo and to ensure that access for all placement and delivery vehicles is safe and suitable. NORTHSTONE SILO PLACEMENT Base for Silo A level concrete base at least 100mm deep is required per silo which will require a minimum size of 3mx3m. When the silos are full they will weigh a minimum of 35tonnes. If there are two silos to go to site there must be a space of 1.5m between the two silos. There must be no overhead obstructions especially electricity cables within 6 metres of the base. POSTIONING OF SILO All silo s must be positioned as close to the site entrance as possible. All sites must have the room for an articulated truck to turn and reverse close to the silo. The connection pipe from the tanker to the silo can reach 2 metres only. The silo is delivered in a rigid truck specially built to move the silo. The dry mortar comes in an articulated truck similar to a cement tanker. Northstone can only reposition the silos to another area on your site. This service requires 7 working days notice and a call out charge will be required. Please contact Northstone sales office for this rate. FINISHED WITH SILO It is the responsibility of the contractor to fully empty the silo before the silo truck collects it. If there are remaining materials in the silo the contractor will be charged for the removing of this material. Please contact Northstone sales office for this rate. 3

4 OPERATION The flip switch must be set to Operator/Clean FILLING/START UP When using for the first time and every subsequent use Place the tub under the discharge tube. Connect power cable and switch the control panel on Connect the water Run the mixer to check the direction is OK Run the mixer Open the butterfly valve on the silo Adjust the water as required SETTING THE AMOUNT OF WATER Switch on the D40/D50 continuous mixer from the S40 control panel: turn the main switch to 1 and press the green button ( 1 ). Check the mortar coming out of the mixing tube for optimal consistency. Do not reach into the running machine. If required, increase the amount of water by turning the precision regulation valve (turn counter clockwise) or reduce it (turn clockwise). WORK INTERRUPTION If work is interrupted for too long a time, the mortar can harden. This can lead to start difficulties when reactivating the machine or damage to the continuous mixer D40/D50. OPERATION IN WINTER When there is slight or heavy frost, the water fittings on the D40/D50 continuous mixer and the S40 control panel can be damaged by freezing water. For this reason, the D40/D50 continuous mixer must be cleaned and the water fittings must be completely emptied when not used for a longer period of time. Close the water supply. Disconnect the water supply hose to the S40: Disconnect the water hose between D40/D50 and S40 and empty it. Set the flip switch to Clean, the water is drained. In models with water pump, also open the draining tap on the bottom right hand side of the switch cabinet. Set the flip switch to Operate before starting up the machine again. 4 THE CONTROL PANEL MUST BE KEPT IN WARM, DRY CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT OR WHEN NOT IN USE ANY REPAIRS TO CONTROL PANELS DAMAGED BY FROST WILL BE CHARGEABLE

5 Finishing Work Essential Maintenance and Cleaning Ensure to fully isolate the equipment prior to carrying out maintenance. Follow safe procedure of Lock Out, Tag Out and Confirm prior to carrying out maintenance. CLEANING ON SITE - D50 MIXER Close the hopper flap and secure it with the cotter pin Remove vibrator plug from the switch cabinet Switch the continuous flow mixer on at the push button On/Off and wait until only water emerges from the continuous flow mixer Allow the water to run for approximately 60 seconds until clear water emerges Switch the continuous flow mixer of at the double push button On/Off Switch isolator switch to O Every 4 weeks dismantle and clean worm In cold weather, uncouple the water hose from the switch cabinet. Empty the water fitting completely. CORRECT CLEANING TONIGHT MEANS EASY STARTING TOMORROW CLEANING ON SITE - S40 CONTROL PANEL Switch metal switch on control panel to the UP Position. This is the position for draining the water from the panel. Turn off the water supply to the panel or disconnect supply going into panel. Open up the 2 small valves on the bottom of the panel. The right hand side valve empties the water from the pump and the left hand side valve empties the water from the solenoid and flow meter. Leave these valves open until every last drop of water is drained from the panel In COLD WEATHER, the panel should be stored inside as well as draining all the water. When not in use or in periods of frost the control panel should be drained and stored inside. WATER NOT DRAINED IN EVENINGS = PROBLEMS IN MORNING THE CONTROL PANEL MUST BE KEPT IN WARM, DRY CONDITIONS OVERNIGHT OR WHEN NOT IN USE ANY REPAIRS TO CONTROL PANELS DAMAGED BY FROST WILL BE CHARGEABLE PREVENTION IS THE KEY AS THESE REPAIRS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE 5
