4 Important information Important information Proper use The Frh Water K is oy intded for use wh a JURA coffee machine of the XJ line. Use for any other purpose will be deemed improper. JURA cannot acce any rponsibily for the consequc of improper use. Before using the machine read the instctions for use thoroughly and completely and comply wh the instctions they contain. A warranty service is not applicable for damage or defects caused by non-compliance wh the instctions for use. Keep the instctions for use close to the machine and pass them on to the next user. For your safety People, including childr, who do not have the physical, ssory or mtal capabili to use the machine safely or are inexpericed or lack knowledge in how to use the machine safely must be supervised by a rponsible person wh using, or must be instcted in how to use correctly. Oy operate the machine wh the mains adaer provided. Install the Mini hub in a location where is protected om water. Do not allow childr to play wh the machine. Childr may not clean or service the machine us supervised by a rponsible person. Childr aged 8 and over may oy operate the machine whout supervision if they have be instcted in how to use safely. Childr must be able to recognise and understand the pottial dangers arising om incorrect use. 28

6 1 Using the h water k for the first time 1 Using the h water k for the first time Requiremts for installation A few preparations are necsary before you can start using the intelligt h water k. The following preparations must be carried out by a profsionally qualified person: The mains connection for the IMPRESSA must be protected by a ridual currt device (RCD). There must be a power swch to disconnect the power supply to the IMPRESSA. The house d of the water connection (up to the supplied valve block) must have a shut-off valve wh a non-return valve (type EA) and filter. The water connection must comply wh the specified technical data (see chaer 6, 'Technical data'). The preparations must be carried out by a qualified person. The preparations must be carried out before you start using the h water k. We recommd mounting the valve block (see diagram). The valve block s function is not depdt on s posion. Installation Precondion: The coffee machine is swched off. T Remove and emy the water tank. T Remove the black cover on the back of the water tank. Use a screwdriver or other suable tool. Lift the cover slightly and remove by pulling backwards. T Break off the black tab on the cover. T Posion the coffee machine on the edge of the table to give accs to the recs on the underside of the machine. 30

7 1 Using the h water k for the first time T Guide the cable for the h water clip om top to bottom through the recs on the underside of the machine. T Guide the d of the water hose wh the black posioning guide om bottom to top through the recs. T Remove the cover om the h water clip. Slide down the cover to do this. T Insert the water hose into the clip. Make sure the hose is correctly posioned. T Attach the clip cover. Clean the ssor on the h water clip thoroughly before first use wh a damp cloth and mild detergt. T Reinsert the emy water tank. T Posion the clip and ref the black cover. 31

8 1 Using the h water k for the first time T Connect the cable of the h water clip to the Mini hub (socket 1). If there is an accounting system connected to the coffee machine, swch this system off first. Th use the RS232 cable for the next steps. T Connect the RS232 cable to the coffee machine. You can now move the IMPRESSA to s final posion. T Connect the RS232 cable to the Mini hub (socket 2). T Connect the valve block to the Mini hub wh the connecting cable (socket 3). T Insert the water hose into the valve block, making sure is properly gaged. Check that the hose is securely in place. The hose can be shorted to the required lgth. The water connection (to the valve block) must have be installed at the house d by a qualified person. Have the metal hose fted to the valve block by a qualified person. 32

9 1 Using the h water k for the first time Using the IMPRESSA XJ9 for the first time J WARNING T Connect the mains cable to the Mini hub (socket 4) and plug the mains plug into a power socket. If you install the h water k before using the coffee machine for the first time, start up the coffee machine as dcribed in the following section (for the IMPRESSA XJ9 or XJ5). T Op the shut-off valve for the house d of the permant water connection. T Swch the coffee machine on again. The coffee machine and h water k are now ready for use. Wh using the machine for the first time, you can choose whether you want to operate the IMPRESSA wh or whout the CLARIS filter cartridge. If the water hardns is 10 dh or more, we recommd using an external filter cartridge. If the machine is operated wh a defective mains cable, there is a danger of pottially fatal electric shock. T Never use a machine which is damaged or has a defective mains cable. Precondion: The bean container has be filled. T Plug the mains plug into a power socket. 3 T Swch on the IMPRESSA using the power swch on the back of the machine. Q T Prs the On/Off button to swch the IMPRESSA on. The display shows the languag you can choose om. To display more languag, prs the 'Next' button (bottom right). T Prs the button that corrponds to the language you want, e.g. 'English'. 'Saved' appears briefly on the display to confirm the setting. 'Filter' Now decide whether you want to operate your IMPRESSA wh or whout a CLARIS filter cartridge. We recommd using an external filter cartridge. 33

T Place a receacle under the cappuccino other, the coffee spout and the hot-water nozzle. T Prs 'Next'. 'Filter is being rinsed.', water flows out of the hot-water nozzle. You can inter rinsing of the filter at any time by prsing any button. Prs the Rotary Swch k to continue wh rinsing of the filter. The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and do not affect the taste. Rinsing stops automatically. 'System is filling.', the system fills up wh water. Water flows out of the cappuccino other and the hot-water nozzle. The operation stops automatically. 'Machine is heating.' 'Machine is rinsing.', the machine rins self. The operation stops automatically. 'Please select product:' appears on the display. The IMPRESSA is now ready for use. The display shows the products you can prepare. 'Machine is rinsing.', the machine rins self. The operation stops automatically. 'Please select product:' appears on the display. The IMPRESSA is now ready for use. The display shows the products you can prepare. Using the IMPRESSA XJ5 for the first time J WARNING Wh using the machine for the first time, you can choose whether you want to operate the IMPRESSA wh or whout the CLARIS filter cartridge. If the water hardns is 10 dh or more, we recommd using an external filter cartridge. If the machine is operated wh a defective mains cable, there is a danger of pottially fatal electric shock. First-time use wh activation of filter cartridge k T Prs the Rotary Swch to confirm the setting. OK appears briefly on the display. INSERT FILTER, the Maintance button c lights up. We recommd using an external filter cartridge. Now f the external filter cartridge as dcribed in the instctions for the cartridge. c T Place one receacle under the coffee spout and another under the hot-water nozzle. T Prs the Maintance button. HEATING, the water tank is filled. FILTER RINSING, water flows out of the hot-water nozzle. You can inter rinsing of the filter at any time by prsing the Maintance button c. Prs the Maintance button c again to continue wh rinsing of the filter. The water may be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and do not affect the taste. Rinsing stops automatically. SYSTEM FILLING, the system fills up wh water. Water flows out of the hot-water nozzle. The operation stops automatically. HEATING RINSING, the machine rins self. The operation stops automatically. READY appears on the display. The IMPRESSA is now ready for use. The IMPRESSA is now ready for use. 2 Operating the IMPRESSA wh the h water k Once you have installed the intelligt h water k in the IMPRESSA, new programme ems will be displayed in programming mode. There are also chang to two sections in the instctions for use for the IMPRESSA: Chaer 3: 'Daily operation Swching off' Chaer 5: 'Maintance Dcaling the machine' The chang to the instctions are explained below (for the IMPRESSA XJ9 and XJ5). IMPRESSA XJ9 Selecting emying mode In 'Machine settings (5/6)' / 'Emy water tank' you can make the following settings: U U 'Always' The water tank is emied automatically every time the IMPRESSA is swched off. U U 'Always prom' Wh the IMPRESSA is swched off the user is promed to decide whether to emy the water tank or not. This prom must be acknowledged. U U 'Never' The water tank is never emied wh the IMPRESSA is swched off. 37

O T Prs the P button. 'Maintance status (1/6)' g T Turn the Rotary Swch until the programme em 'Machine settings (5/6)' is displayed. T Prs 'Emy water tank'. 'Emy water tank' T Prs 'Always'. T Prs 'Save'. 'Saved' appears briefly on the display. 'Machine settings (5/6)' O T Prs the P button to ex programming mode. 'Please select product:' Changing the water You can iniate a water change manually at any time. Precondion: 'Please select product:' is displayed. O T Prs the P button. 'Maintance status (1/6)' T Prs 'Change water'. 'Do you want to change the water now?' / 'Y' T Prs 'Y'. 'Water tank emying', the water tank is emied. The operation stops automatically. 'Machine is heating.', the water tank is refilled. T Place a receacle under the coffee spout. 'Machine is rinsing.', the machine rins self. The operation stops automatically. 'Please select product:' appears on the display. The IMPRESSA is once more ready for use. 38

15 Swching off 2 Operating the IMPRESSA wh the h water k If, in 'Machine settings (5/6)' / 'Emy water tank', you selected 'Always prom', the swch-off procs for your IMPRESSA will be slightly differt. T Place one receacle under the coffee spout and another under the cappuccino other. Q T Prs the On/Off button. 'Emy water tank' / 'Emy water tank now?'. T Prs 'Y'. If the water tank is not emied, prs the ' ' button. 'Machine is rinsing.', 'Milk system is being rinsed.'. The spouts used to prepare a specialy coffee or milk are rinsed. The operation stops automatically. 'Water tank emying', the water tank is emied. The operation stops automatically. The IMPRESSA is swched off. Wh the IMPRESSA is swched off wh the On/Off button, the machine consum ls than 0.1 W of standby ergy. The machine can be completely disconnected om the power supply using the power swch. Dcaling the machine J CAUTION The IMPRESSA builds up deposs of limcale over time and automatically proms you to dcale wh necsary. The degree of calcification depds on the hardns of your water. If the dcaling agt com into contact wh the skin or ey, this can cause irration. T Avoid contact wh the skin or ey. T Rinse off the dcaling agt wh clean water. Should you get any dcaling agt in your eye, see a doctor. CAUTION CAUTION If the wrong dcaling agt is used, the machine could be damaged and/or trac could be left behind in the water. T Use oy original JURA maintance products. If the dcaling operation is intered, there may be damage to the machine. T Allow the dcaling programme to n to the d. 39

16 2 Operating the IMPRESSA wh the h water k CAUTION The dcaling agt may damage ssive surfac such as marble. T Clean up any splash immediately. The dcaling programme lasts approx. 45 minut. JURA dcaling tablets are available om specialised dealers. If you use a CLARIS filter cartridge and this is activated, you will not be promed to dcale. Precondion: 'Please select product:' is displayed. The c symbol is also displayed. O T Prs the P button. 'Maintance status (1/6)' T Prs 'Dcale'. 'Dcale' If you do not want to start dcaling just yet, prs the ' ' button. T Prs 'Next'. 'Remove k' T Remove the h water clip om the water tank. T Remove the cappuccino other. T Prs 'Next'. 'Emy drip tray' T Emy the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. 'Pour dcaling agt into water tank.'. T Remove and emy the water tank. T Completely dissolve 3 JURA dcaling tablets in a receacle holding 600 ml of water. This may take several minut. T Pour the solution into the emy water tank and insert into the machine. 'Prs the Rotary Swch.' 40

'Machine is being dcaled.', water flows out of the connector of the cappuccino other and the hot-water nozzle several tim. The operation is intered, 'Emy drip tray'. T Emy both receacl. T Emy the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. 'Rinse the water tank' T Remove the water tank and rinse thoroughly. T Reinsert the emy water tank. T Prs 'Next'. 'Insert k' T Insert the h water clip in the water tank. T Ref the cappuccino other. T Place a receacle under the cappuccino other, the coffee spout and the hot-water nozzle. T Prs 'Next'. 'System is filling.' 'Machine is being dcaled.', water flows out of the hot-water nozzle and the cappuccino other. 'Machine is heating.', 'Machine is rinsing.', water flows out of the coffee spout. The operation stops automatically, 'Emy drip tray'. T Emy the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. Dcaling is now complete. The IMPRESSA is once more ready for use. If the dcaling operation stops unexpectedly, rinse the water tank thoroughly. 41

21 2 Operating the IMPRESSA wh the h water k c c c T Completely dissolve 3 JURA dcaling tablets in a receacle holding 600 ml of water. This may take several minut. T Pour the solution into the emy water tank and insert into the machine. AGENT IN TANK and the Maintance button c lights up. T Place a receacle under the hot-water nozzle. T Prs the Maintance button. DE-SCALING, water flows straight into the drip tray and out of the hot-water nozzle repeatedly. The operation is intered, EMPTY TRAY. T Emy the receacle. T Emy the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. RINSE WATER TANK T Remove the water tank and rinse thoroughly. T Reinsert the emy water tank. T Prs the Maintance button. INSERT KIT T Insert the h water clip in the water tank. T Place one receacle under the hot-water nozzle and another under the coffee spout. T Prs the Maintance button. HEATING DE-SCALING, water flows out of the hot-water nozzle and the coffee spout. The operation stops automatically, EMPTY TRAY. T Emy the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine. Dcaling is now complete. The IMPRESSA is once more ready for use. If the dcaling operation stops unexpectedly, rinse the water tank thoroughly. 45

22 3 Dcaling the h water clip 3 Dcaling the h water clip Calcium deposs may build up on the ssor of the h water clip. We recommd dcaling the ssor regularly. Use the same dcaling solution that you used to dcale the IMPRESSA. T Close the shut-off valve. T Disconnect the power supply to the valve block. T Immerse the ssor in the dcaling solution for about 20 minut. Make sure the metal tabs are immersed in the liquid. T Remove the clip and rinse the ssor well under nning water. Calcium deposs may build up in the water tank. You should therefore remove and clean the tank regularly. 4 LED indicators Mini hub Frh water clip Status LED for power supply (6) On: No errors. Off: Power supply intered or error (e.g. Mini hub not connected to coffee machine, mains adaer not plugged in or LED is defective). Flashing: Valve block is active. Flashing rapidly: Error. Status LED on top of clip Whe: No error, water level OK. Flashing whe: Valve block is active, no water detected. Rapidly flashing whe: Valve op. Flashing orange: Error; water level too high or safety swch inactive. Off: Power supply intered or error (e.g. clip not connected to Mini hub, mains adaer not plugged in or LED is defective). 46

23 5 Uninstalling the h water k 5 Uninstalling the h water k Q T Swch the coffee machine off wh the On/Off button. T Unplug the mains plug of the Mini hub om the power socket. T Close the shut-off valve. T Disconnect the water hose om the valve block. T Unplug the mains cable om the Mini hub (socket 4). T Unplug the RS232 cable om the Mini hub (socket 2). T Unplug the RS232 cable om the coffee machine. T Unplug the connecting cable betwe the valve block and the Mini hub (socket 3). T Unplug the h water clip cable om the Mini hub (socket 1).
