2 About the Company The PPi Technologies GROUP is the largest organization in North America selling StandUp pouch and tray machinery. The machine sales are supported through the sales of patented consumables that offer customers an edge in the production area or market place. Machine technologies include premade pouches for fill-seal or printed rollstock for form-fill-seal machines with press-to-close and slider zippers. Many of the machines handle spout fitments and application of these range from premade center or corner type and or fill and seal in place. Redi-2-DrinQ Global - Export company for all Redi-2-DrinQ products ShotPak Trinidad & Tobago Ltd. - Licensee for Caricom countries Redi-2-DrinQ Caribbean Ltd. - Sales and marketing for Caribbean Wave products ABOUT THE EnVIRONMENT Excerpt from a FloridaTrend article by Barbara Miracle Waste-to-energy plants burn almost 4 million tons of Florida garbage each year and generate more than 534 megawatts of power a day, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. That s enough to power about 200,000 homes on an ongoing basis. Florida s 13 waste-toenergy plants were built in the 1980s and 1990s as alternatives to landfills. Most of the facilities use the mass 300 empty pouches = 6 empty bottles burn method where all trash is incinerated before metals are separated out. Facilities in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties use an alternative system of sorting the trash and then burning. Whichever system is used, the trash is reduced by more than 90%, and remaining ash is buried in landfills. The energy produced during the burning process is typically used to power the facility itself, with the excess power sold on the open market. Garbage power: Montenay Power operates the largest waste-toenergy plant in Florida. It sells 85% to 90% of the 72 megawatts it produces daily to Progress Energy... Construction of waste-to-energy plants came to a halt in the mid-1990s after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that resulted in private trash haulers building regional landfills in rural areas, a solution far less expensive than building waste-to-energy facilities. The energy production component (as opposed to the garbage disposal component) of waste-to-energy plants may give new life to the industry in the next five years. However. If gasoline prices continue to rise, it will get more expensive to transport trash to landfills in outlying areas. Also, if waste-to-energy plants can sell their excess electricity to power companies for a higher price, that will decrease the overall cost of operating the plant. Finally, the recently passed federal energy bill includes new tax credits for waste-to-energy and other provisions that require federal agencies to get 7.5% of the energy they consume from renewable sources by Life Cycle Assessment of Packaging In a recent study, the overall environmental impact of a pouch vs a bottle was analyzed and below are some of the findings. Waste: In a comparison between a 187 ml bottle and a 187 ml pouch, it was found that the pouch generated 40% less waste Weight: The pouch weighs 20 times less than the bottle and uses far less material and takes up far less space than a bottle Energy savings: The pouch uses far less energy to make than a bottle Lower carbon DIOXIDE footprint: The pouch has a much lower CO 2 footprint than a bottle and if incinerated zero carbon footprint. Recycling: The pouch can be incinerated and the resultant energy captured for new usage 1
