Replacing All Seals. This procedure explains how to replace all seals in the pump head assembly of the Alliance 2695 and 2795 Separations Modules.

1 SSPR NEW DOC. NO. REV OF 5 This procedure explains how to replace all seals in the pump head assembly of the Alliance 2695 and 2795 Separations Modules. Removing the head components 2. Replacing the seal wash assembly seals 3. Cleaning or replacing the plunger 4. Replacing the plunger seal 5. Replacing the face seals 6. Reassembling the head components 7. Priming the solvent delivery system 8. Priming the seal wash Removing the Head Components 1. Open the solvent management compartment doors. 2. Loosen the two captive screws along the front of the solvent delivery tray (Figure 1).

NOTE: The head, seal wash assembly, and plunger can all be removed at once. 4. Remove the plunger seal wash line from the solvent reservoir and drain the solvent from the line. Figure 2 - Removing the Plunger Seal Wash Line 5. From the Main screen, press the Diagnostics screen key; then press the Other Tests screen key. 6. Select Head Removal and Replacement and then press OK. 7. Press Enter to display the head choices and select the head you want to rebuild. 8. Press the Start screen key. Follow the automated procedure on the display.

Once the head nut is removed, you can pull the head and plunger assembly straight out to remove them. 10.Separate the three components (head, seal wash assembly, and plunger) (Figure 3). Replacing the Seal Wash Assembly Seals Figure 3 - Separating the Pump Components 1. Remove the washer from the back side of the seal wash assembly to access the plunger wash seal (Figure 4). 2. Using the seal removal tool, remove the plunger wash seal. 3. Remove the two wash tube seals from the sides of the seal wash assembly. 4. Remove the face seal from the front of the seal wash assembly. Figure 4 - Replacing the Seal Wash Assembly Seals 5. Thoroughly wet the new wash tube seals and the sides of the seal wash assembly with 6. Press the seals into the assembly with the spring side facing in.

4 SSPR NEW DOC. NO. REV OF 5 7. Thoroughly wet the seal insertion tool, the new plunger wash seal, and the seal wash assembly with 8. Slide the plunger wash seal onto the seal insertion tool with the spring side facing up, and insert the plunger wash seal into the back side of the assembly. 9. Thoroughly wet the new face seal and the front side of the seal wash assembly with 10.Install the new face seal into the assembly, using your thumb. 11.Replace the flat washer on top of the plunger wash seal. Cleaning or Replacing the Plunger 1. Inspect the plunger to ensure that it is clean and not damaged. If the plunger is dirty, clean it with a fine pumice to remove any coating. 2. Wash the plunger thoroughly with methanol to remove all traces of pumice. Replacing the Plunger Seal NOTE: Be careful not to scratch the surface of the head when removing the seals. 1. Use the nylon-tipped end of the seal removal tool to extract the plunger seal from the head (Figure 5). Figure 5 - Removing the Plunger Seal 2. Wet the seal insertion tool, new plunger seal, and plunger seal cavity thoroughly with 3. Slide the plunger seal onto the seal insertion tool, with the spring side facing up. Insert the seal into the head. Replacing the Face Seals 1. Being careful not to scratch the surface of the head, use a blunt tool to remove the face seals from the head (Figure 4). 2. Wet the new face seals and the openings in the head thoroughly with 3. Place the face seals into the openings on the head and press them into place with a smooth flat item (such as the corner of a credit card).

5 SSPR NEW DOC. NO. REV OF 5 Reassembling the Head Components Once all the seals have been replaced and the plunger is clean, you are ready to reassemble the head. 1. Wet the plunger and inside cavity of the seal wash assembly thoroughly with 2. Slide the seal wash assembly onto the plunger, making sure the face seal is toward the front end of the plunger. 3. Wet the plunger and inside cavity of the head thoroughly with methanol and then slide the head onto the plunger, aligning the head pin into the seal wash assembly. 4. Press the Continue screen key. Follow the instructions on the display to reinstall the components. 5. To replace the seals for the other head, press the Continue screen key again to repeat the steps to rebuild the second head. 6. After rebuilding the second head, press the Close screen key to exit this diagnostic. Priming the Solvent Delivery System Before setting a flow rate, you must perform a dry prime to wet the new seals. Follow the instructions outlined in the operator s manual. Priming the Seal Wash You must also prime the seal wash lines to remove any air from the lines. Follow the instructions outlined in the operator s manual.
