2 Pre-Install Meeting and Site Visit Below: Brandon Gulley (BRS) laughing about our working around the pit and pipes. Of course the pipes would be gone (and they were), and the pit was to be filled around the sump with concrete (and it will be). Above, the original white board sketch in J.E. Dunn s trailer to describe moving from a single square tank to the double round 2-section tanks; agreement was had by all present that this was a better way to configure the system.

3 Week One; tasks to complete Set job trailer up and hook to electricity Receive the collection system Rig it into the facility Weld the sections together Raise and mount the sections on legs Bolt the collection system down Plan for week 2 activities

4 A tortuous path to bring the equipment in; to say the least! 1 down 2 around 3 through

5 Meeting with J.E. Dunn, Feldmeier and Riggers at the space during the final site visit 2 weeks prior to the tanks arriving. We agreed the pipe (white) shown and pumps had to be removed for us to install the collection tanks. The riggers agreed that we could get the equipment into the room; that was what we were looking for on this visit!!

6 Week 1: Collection Tank Install Beautiful Feldmeier tanks arrive in halves to fit through the tortuous path into the EDS room. 7 Here comes a section! Excellent Rigging by Northwest Steel Erection Company (Des Moines), and great help by the Feldmeier boys, made this go smoothly

8 Down the Hatch!!

9 Welding the tanks together Sections are welded together inside, then outside, then the outer band goes on, then the box frame sections. Jesse does the finish work! Feldmeier Boys, Jesse Miller and Brandon Willey Right, Brandon Willey welding inside the sections. Wow!

10 Thursday morning, tanks finished, time to rig them up John Rethmeier (on the ladder) and Bion Ingram of Northwest Steel Erection Company provided us ultimate professionalism and timeliness on rigging our difficult project into place. Bion Ingram hanging the hoist plate

11 Thursday afternoon; They re up!! On schedule and without any major problems. Now to pull the paper from the inside, clean them up, and get out of the way so that ISU can use their facility. Paper comes off the outside after everyone is finished crawling on the tanks.

12 Kevin Young of J.E. Dunn hounded us on safety! See you in two weeks for the install of the cooker and mechanical construction of the system. Thanks to everyone who made this so easy; J.E. Dunn was fantastic, as were the Iowa State people in accommodating our many needs this week.

13 Week Two; tasks to complete Receive Cooker and rig it into the facility Mount the cooker in place Attach all mechanical components to the system Build and attach all piping to the system Complete mechanical assembly of the system Plan for week 3 activities

14 We lost 2 full days due to an unfortunate rear- ending hit and run by a Semi; no one was hurt and Iowa State and J.E. Dunn made it possible for us to make up the days on the weekend. Thanks Leroy, Justin, and Bill! Zero degrees, wild ride in the night, no one hurt; hooray!! Waiting in a hotel room for 2 full days for the tow truck to call; Ouch! Finding a way to get the truck and trailer out (thank you U- Haul), and that the truck and trailer still work! Priceless!!

15 Iowa is really beautiful in the Winter; Did we say that?? And we got the cooker in place and began assembling the unit.

17 And a shot through the very long (15 ) #2 collection tank. The thermocouple at the end is for decontamination information, and the hole in the middle receives Cleaning Nozzle (water) number 3. The pipe at the bottom is the inlet from the transfer pipe.

23 Week Three; tasks to complete Receive controls Mount control cabinet and chases in place Attach all water hoses and spray nozzles to system Wire all components Complete the system; ready to run A major project milestone achieved!

24 TEQ Solutions top install crew brought the controls cabinet, chases, and all materials to complete the electrical install. Pat Woodlock (L) was project leader and Fireman/EMT Bill MacGregor (waving), was his co-worker. They completed the install in 2 days and a few hours!! Luke Wilson (R) from BRS was there with me to support these guys.

25 Control Panel NEMA 4 wire duct The control panel was placed and anchored, and a long wire duct was mounted to the legs of the collection system. This wire duct keeps things neat and safe, allowing ducting of the wires to the areas of the machine where the wires would then emerge through water-tight fittings to be routed to the respective valves, sensors, or other devices.

26 The wiring chase can be seen on the opposite side of the components above, and wires coming out of the bottom of the chase through water tight strain relief devices, then to the components. Below, the inside of the chase guards the wires. The chase interfaces with the control cabinet via two 90 degree adaptors, bringing the wires into the cabinet from the side (see next page).

29 Condensate flash vent line Incoming waste line with deep trap We worked with and around the excellent plumbers and electrical contractors, to make plenty of dust and get the project built. Above left (Adam) from A.J. Allen has just finished the vent line pipe and takes a call while it is cooling.

31 All things connected, the next pictures you will see will be the system in a fully operational condition, cleaned up, and presentable for photo documentation. We will produce the Operation / Service Manuals from photos taken after everything is cleaned up and ready to function on a daily basis. And, Ted s sample ports will have their final valves added.

32 Install Summary The project took 11.5 days fulfilled in a 3 week time-span (not consecutive). We had predicted we could do it in 13.5 working days. This success, in spite of some setbacks (like our wreck, and the wonderful winter blizzards, and a few late parts), was due to the exceptional support we were provided by J.E. Dunn, Iowa State University, Feldmeier Equipment, TEQ Solutions, Jay Hickle, Northwest Steel Erection (Rigging), the plumbing contractor, and the electrical contractor. Leroy, Justin, Kevin, Steve, etc., etc. you know who you are. Thanks! This was a fun project, and our original trepidations we had about the access and the impacts it would have on us, were overcome; the resulting progress was better than we had anticipated. This is indeed a beautiful if not interesting install, and we are very excited to have this system on-line, debugged, and operating smoothly for Iowa State University. Go Cyclones!!!
