2 2 Humble Beginnings Family Built Since 1963 From Kenall s humble storefront beginnings on Chicago s Southport Avenue in 1963 to our present state-of-the-art, vertically integrated manufacturing complex in north suburban Illinois, the Hawkins Family has transcended an evolution in lighting to become a recognized leader in lighting challenging environments. From 1965, when Ken Hawkins partnered with Jack White to invent the industry s first vandal proof polycarbonate lighting enclosure for the Chicago Housing Authority, to today as Ken s son, Jim, continues to develop innovative, energy efficient and sustainable solid state lighting solutions, the Kenall name has become synonymous with quality, durability, reliability and excellence Kenall Lighting is founded by Ken Hawkins; locating in a 1,000 sq ft facility on Southport Avenue in Chicago Jim Hawkins and Ken Hawkins, 1982 As an early employee handbook states, "Our company is a perfect example of the working of the American economic system. It is our responsibility to make sure that all Kenall products meet the highest standards of quality and workmanship." We continue to embrace this corporate philosophy half a century later. In an era marked by outsourcing of American jobs, Kenall can proudly say that our products continue to be manufactured in the USA with components purchased from US suppliers, and meet the Buy American requirements under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Ken Hawkins partners with Jack White and supplies the first high abuse lighting fixtures for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) 1973 Ken s son, Jim Hawkins, joins Kenall following his graduation from Harvard University 1978 Kenall relocates to a 32,000 sq ft building on Victoria Avenue in Chicago. Jack White retires and Ken Hawkins resumes sole ownership 1983 Jim Hawkins is named President of Kenall Manufacturing and three years later assumes sole ownership.

Two years later Kenall relocates to a 80,000 sq ft site in north suburban Gurnee, Illinois 2001 Kenall introduces Millenium Stretch ; a linear high abuse lighting system designed for flexibility in application 1987 Introduction of Mighty Mac line of security detention products and Kenall's first LED exit sign 2004 Introduction of MedMaster series of patient room lighting solutions 1991 Kenall receives UL DAP Certification for UL1598 thermal and water testing 2007 Kenall develops and manufactures its first high-brightness white LED module 1994 Acquisition of Subtronics Assembly; specializing in the design and manufacturing of electronic components 2010 Kenall builds photometric lab and installs Type C Goniophotometer and two meter integrating sphere leading to IAS accreditation in Introduction of Millenium a breakthrough in affordable, architectural high abuse products 2011 Kenall's TekDek fixture breaks the 100 lm/w efficacy mark; introduction of first closed loop control system for SSL 1997 Introduction of SimpleSeal sealed lighting for controlled spaces 2012 Introduction of EnviroPro a line of food processing luminaires for tough environmental conditions
