3 Properly Sealed for Infection Control MedMaster M4 3 Creating a Leak-Proof Barrier Between the Plenum and the Surgical Suite Surgical suites employ pressurized interiors to minimize the intrusion of contaminants. To this end, they must be free of holes, gaps, or other openings that could allow leakage thereby compromising the effectiveness of the room s pressure-based contamination barrier. From this perspective, lighting fixtures used in such environments should have leakage-based performance requirements that serve to seal off the room. With this in mind, Kenall surgical suite luminaires are designed and engineered to meet the stringent performance criteria required to provide a leak-proof barrier between the flange and ceiling, preventing any contaminants from entering around the luminaire from the room or the plenum. The MedMaster M4 s internal components are isolated from the environment. This isolation protects the surroundings from heat, sparks, arcing, dirt, dust, moisture, air pressure differences, and other conditions that would adversely affect processes or safety in the room. In fact, every M4 carries an IP65 rating a rating that proves the fixture s dust-tight performance and water jet protection. It is also NSF2 listed, ensuring the luminaire is easy to clean to support healthcare facilities infection control standards. 5 MedMaster M4 Flexibility with Universal Grid / Flange Installation Kenall s MedMaster M4 is designed to be used in either a grid or flange application without the need for a conversion kit or luminaire modification. The luminare is suitable for a 1- or 1.5-inch grid or flange installation. This integrated, adaptable feature provides installation flexibility in the field. 5 Flange mounting applications use four adjustable swing-out brackets for fast installation, and ensures a tight seal to the ceiling surface. Compact housing design allows for reduced plenum intrusion; an area where space is typically at a premium. Fully sealed housing with closed cell gasketing ensures ingress protection against contaminants. The fixture is ETL Certified IP65 per IEC Inset door provides a flush mount to the ceiling. Drywall / Flange Installation Grid Ceiling Installation Swing-out arms are used in drywall ceiling installations to draw the housing flange tightly against the surface. Kenall s MedMaster M4 delivers consistent, effective light where and when it s needed. The luminaire integrates symmetric or symmetric/asymmetric lenses for superior task illuminance within each of the surgical suite zones. Surgical teams can also depend on the luminaire to provide accurate color rendition and illumination every time they step into the surgical field. M4 Symmetric The M4 is available with a diffused lens, providing a symmetric distribution that delivers light evenly across the surgical field. This supports the visual needs of the surgical team light, where they need it and when they need it. M4 Symmetric/Asymmetric The M4 is also available with a linear prismatic lens, providing a symmetric/asymmetric distribution to direct light more specifically toward the surgical field. This reduces shadows to enhance visual clarity while also delivering light to the team where and when it s needed. Spectral Power Distribution The spectral power distribution (SPD) of light provides essential information about its quality, including color rendition. Lamp sources with a continuous spectrum of color (as exhibited in the graph on the right) enable hues in the target subject to appear most true to their actual color. Conversely, if a light source does not contain a particular color on a continuous basis, then those same colors in the target subject may not appear correctly. 9 Testing, Listings, Certifications & Warranties MedMaster M4 Fixtures designed for use in surgical suite settings must satisfy a large number of demanding lighting and environmental requirements. For the most up-to-date information, please refer to individual product specification sheets at 9 C IP65 ETL A product bearing the ETL Listed mark is determined to have met the minimum requirements of prescribed product safety standards as certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NTL). The mark also indicates that the manufacturer's production site conforms to a range of compliance measures and is subject to periodic follow-up inspections to verify continued conformance. IP65 UL Certified IP65 per IEC ensures that the enclosure is dust-tight and protected against jet streams of water from any direction without any harmful effects. NSF2 An NSF2 Listing denotes that the luminaire has been evaluated for corrosion resistance, cleanability and the ability of exposed material to withstand normal wear. This supports the infection control standards established by healthcare facilities as indication that the luminaire is easy to sanitize. MIL STD 461F CCEA Approved ISO 5 Class 100 MIL STD 461F Military Standards testing measurements cover both radiated and conducted electromagnetic emissions in addition to maximum allowable amounts of emitted energy based on both frequency range and field strength. Luminaires meeting MIL STD 461F pose the lowest possible likelihood of causing EMI-related issues. CCEA Approved The City of Chicago Environmental Air (CCEA) rating ensures that the luminaire is inherently airtight. Wiring and/or branch circuit terminations are sealed off and gasketed from the plenum air space. This listing ensures that the luminaire is sealed to limit air flow from the room side to the plenum. ISO 5 Suitable for ISO 5, Class 100 Rated Rooms (FED-STD 209E). Measures the number of particles equal to or greater than 0.5 mm in one cubic foot of air. The measurement must not exceed specified particle limits in order for the space to be considered a controlled clean room environment. IP65 Rating Explained What are IEC Standards? IEC Standards are international standards that many European countries adopt as their national standard. North America has traditionally adopted UL standards as the source for standards. U.S. product manufacturers designed their products to IEC standards initially for sale overseas but are finding them increasingly useful here in North America. Benefits of Ingress Protection Ratings IEC standards The IP water rating of 5 (IP_5), described in IEC Standard 60598, provides an internationally accepted standard which can be used to evaluate fixtures for ingress protection. The test can be performed by an independent third party testing agency for verification. Underwriters Laboratories investigates products and tests to the IEC standard. Dust-tight Protection An additional test criterion that can be applied to fixtures is the ability to exclude solid matter. The IP solid rating of 6 (IP6_) means the fixture will be dust tight. The specified test requires that the fixture be placed in a circulating talc atmosphere for 3 hours. The particle size of the talc is a range of one to 75 microns and the fixture is placed under negative pressure in an attempt to draw the talc into the fixture. No talc shall be found inside the fixture after this test. Lumen depreciation is compared to the published lumen output of the product on the date of manufacture per IESNA LM-79 reporting procedures. Normal accumulation of particulates on the optical surfaces shall not be factored into the lumen depreciation. Kenall reserves the right to issue credit, repair, or replace the defective merchandise, at its discretion, upon notification and confirmation by its local representative of the defect. Kenall also reserves the right to test and examine the defective product if the defect is questionable, and to deny the warranty herein for any product altered, improperly installed, or installed in applications for which it is not intended. This includes operation in ambient temperatures above stated limits for any length of time. Failure by electrical surge shall not be covered under warranty. Kenall assumes no responsibility for labor or freight costs incurred in connection with the installation, removal, or replacement of products determined to be defective or any other consequential or incidental damages arising from the use of the product.
