APPLICATION The W7A Telephone Lighting Module (TLM) is an accessory device that adds remote telephone access, lighting control and future thermostat control capabilities to the Honeywell 7000 Alarm System (model W70C only). The W7A offers users the convenience of using the telephone to check and change the status of their security. W7A Telephone Lighting Module The W7A Telephone Lighting Module requires connecting a separate telephone line jack between the System 7000 control panel and a telephone in the home. The W7A must also be connected to the system through an H-Bus and attached to a PL5 or PSC04 PLC Interface Module with a modular cable. Then, on the correct ring count from a remote telephone call or when an on-premises telephone is picked up and the asterisk (*) key is pressed three times, the W7A engages and makes a W7A connection. The W7A then obtains status information and sends arming commands to the control panel via the H-Bus. The W7A also listens to the H-Bus and, in response to events and time, the W7A logic sends X0 lighting on and off messages to the PL5 or PSC04 Module. W7A Installation CAUTION Equipment Damage Hazard. Static electricity can damage circuit boards. Follow electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety procedures when handling or installing circuit boards.. Locate the W7A within eight feet (.44 meters) of an available ac outlet and with easy access to the connector.. Mount remotely within 50 feet (76 meters) of the control panel when using AWG wire or 500 feet (5 meters) when using 8 AWG wire.. Remove the W7A circuit board from the plastic box. 4. Use the box to mark the mounting screw locations on the wall or plywood. 5. Mount the W7A with two screws (not supplied). 6. Insert the W7A circuit board as shown in Fig

Use AK4500A four conductor twisted cable to connect the W7A to other H-Bus devices. Observe all the H-Bus rules including terminating the H-Bus signaling wire pair with a 0 ohm resistor whenever the W7A is the last device on the line.. Install or request the installation of a second and separate jack.. Use modular telephone cable between the and the W7A telephone jack. 4. 7 W7A House Code Configuration Select a house code from letters A through P to be used later to bind the addresses of all the lighting modules to the W7A. Install and program the System 7000 (W70C only). a. Use System 7000 firmware and programming software, Revision.0 or higher. b. Enable passcode 5, defining the telephone access code for the system. c. Enter the applicable zip code to enable the system to calculate the sunset time.. Install the Modular Block Assembly or request the installation of a second jack on the house side of the for the 7000 System.. Install and connect the W7A using the instructions that follow. 4. Install the lighting modules. Select a house code by setting the W7A DIP switch. 5. Set the same house code and individual unit codes on each module for the desired application in Table. 6. Connect the thermostat if applicable (future option). 7. Use the house telephone to change the W7A configuration settings such as ring count. 8. Check out and test the system. Lighting PL5 or PSC04 PLC Interface Module The PL5 (X0) or PSC04 (X0 PRO) modules convert the W7A commands into X0 Power Line Carrier (PLC) messages that are imposed onto the power line and run throughout the home over the existing wiring. These signals are then received by X0, X0 PRO or Leviton smart switches, receptacles or modules. Lighting Design Identify the lights the customer has chosen for the system to operate automatically:. Entry and exit.. Lived-in look.. Alarm. Up to 6 unique addresses are allowed, although many lights that are always turned on and off at the same time can share the same address. Eight addresses are dedicated to entry and exit, five more to lived-in-look, and an additional three to alarm only lighting. Note that the options available in Table have some lights come on at any time, 4 hours a day, for a dark hallway, for example, and have others only come on at night, such as a porch light. Some of the entry and exit lights and some lived-in-look lighting come on only after sunset and before sunrise. If the system is armed with an Away State (Mode ), lived-in-look lights operate randomly after sunset until approximately 0:0 PM. All lights come on in the event of an alarm regardless of the time of day and stay on for an hour. After identifying the lights to be operated by the system, have an electrician replace the switches and receptacles that control these lights with smart addressable switches and receptacles that use the X0 protocol (a variety of styles and colors are available from Leviton, X0 or X0 PRO). Honeywell part number 0905 Plug-in Lighting Module, and part number Appliance Module, are also available and can be used as options. Consider providing ways for the user to manually operate addressable lights by providing desktop or wall mounted lighting controllers (especially for plug-in lights). To suppress sources of interference from power line noise, have the electrician provide filtering and bridging when signaling is required between different power phases. NOTE: Built-in transient protection in some power strips and instant-on circuits in some TV s can also affect power line signaling. Configuring Lighting Modules. Select a House code. Each lighting module has a switch with a letter from A through P. Select a code to be used by this house. Avoid letter A because it is a common out of box setting and P because it is also used as a code by X-0 test equipment.. Select a Unit code. Each module has a second switch with numbers from to 6. Choose and set the number for the desired application shown in Table.. Whenever you have only a few lights on, always select one light to come on and remain on. 4. Choose device codes in the middle of the range (module unit numbers 8 to 0) that are set to operate more frequently

Programming Requirements System 7000 For the W7A to work properly, program this information into the System 7000:. Zip Code: So the system can compute the correct sunrise and sunset time.. Mode : Selected when the user responds to the telephone prompts to arm the system. Configure for the arming security requirements the user specifies.. Passcode 5: Passcode the W7A uses for remote telephone access. Program a number and enable the passcode. 4. Date and Time: The W7A gets its time from the System 7000 whenever a new time is set via the keypad; it requests a daily time update. W7A TLM Program this information:. House Code: Choose the house code by setting the DIP switch on the W7A and the rotary switches on the lighting modules.. Number of Rings: Set the ring count to a value greater than any answering machine sharing the telephone line and less than the System 7000 ring count. Hidden Configuration Menus W7A TLM configuration is hidden from the homeowner. To access these configuration menus:. Pick up the telephone and enter three asterisks (***).. Enter three asterisks (***) when the system prompts you to arm or disarm. A prompt, Press to change lighting, appears. Pressing digit,, or on the telephone allows you to select between Lived-In-Look options. See Table. NOTE: Pressing Digit Only options 0 and are prompted by the voice message. 0 Disables. Table. 9 Dusk Offset (Table 4) The system turns on certain lights after computing sunset for the area. Pressing allows you to change the Lived-In-Look lighting start time in one-half hour increments. Use this setting for circumstances that cause darkness earlier or later than the official sunset time, such as living on the side of a mountain. You can make the changes in Table 4 after pressing. Pressing Digit Table 4. Dusk Offset. Number of Rings (Tables 5 and 6) Pressing 4 allows you to configure the number of rings required before the W7A picks up on a remote telephone call. Setting the count to zero disables the Remote Telephone Access function. The ring count for the W7A should be set higher than any device that shares the same telephone line, such as an answering machine, and less than the System 7000 programming ring count. Set the ring count according to Table 5. Table 5. Number of Rings. Note that System 7000 can listen for a programmer tone after the answering machine is on line. Whenever an answering machine is present or a customer subscribes to a remote answering service from the telephone company, the user needs to place two quick consecutive calls to connect to the W7A. It picks up after two rings followed by a ten second pause followed by two more telephone rings. See Table 6. Light Test Use this menu to test the lighting operation. From the configuration menu, pressing digit 9 causes all 6 lights to come on and turn back off in the same order. USER SYSTEM OPERATION Telephone Access The W7A allows the user to operate their system from any touch tone telephone. Any person that knows passcode #5 can pick up a telephone and do the following: When At Home: Enter three asterisks ( ***). The system informs the user of the system status and provides voice prompts for arming or disarming the system (or changing the temperature when the thermostat is attached). Arming/Disarming System While at Home: The homeowner can arm and disarm the system from a touch tone telephone at home. Enter three asterisks (***) to get into the system. Follow instructions to arm the system by pressing or disarm the system by pressing 0 (zero). NOTE: Arming the system from a home telephone selects Mode 4, which is typically programmed as the SLEEP mode. When Away: The user can dial the home telephone number and let it ring the correct number of rings. If the line is shared with other equipment or telephone company services, the user must let it ring twice, hang up for ten seconds, then dial the number again to let the telephone ring two more times. This procedure must be completed within 40 seconds. When the W7A picks up, the user is prompted to enter a remote access passcode (#5). After being informed of the system status, the user is voice prompted for arming or disarming the system (or changing the temperature when the thermostat is attached). Turning Off All Lights: The user can turn off all lights from the home telephone by picking up the phone and entering three asterisks (***) followed immediately by the number 9. The user will hear a beep and all lights will go off. This feature is especially convenient following an alarm or when going to sleep. Hacker: After four consecutive incorrect passcode tries, the W7A hangs up, displays a Hacker message on the keypad and turns itself off for fifteen minutes. USER OPERATING SCENARIOS The addition of the Telephone Lighting Module to a System 7000 adds convenient automatic operation of lights and can save energy and increase comfort. Common user scenarios are: Leaving The Home: User arms the system to leave (using any mode that has an AWAY state selected). The selected Entry/Exit lights come on to light the user s way through the hallways and then turn off after three minutes. (If later a communicating thermostat is attached, it is changed to an energy saving away state.)

10 While Away: The user can use any touch tone telephone to call home and use passcode number 5 to get into the system and do the following:. Check Status: System may be Ready, Not Ready, In Alarm, Not Responding, or In Mode X (where X is the mode number through 6).. Arm System: The user can press the number to arm the system to Mode only if the system is ready.. Disarm System: An armed or alarmed system can be disarmed by a user with passcode number Adjust Temperature (Future Option): When a thermostat is attached in the future, the user can get the temperature of the home and increase the temperature in one degree increments. 5. While Away After Dark: When the system is armed, the W7A starts randomly turning selected lights on and off until ten to eleven PM. If the system remains armed after that time, the W7A turns off all Lived-In-Look lights. Random Lived-In-Look lighting stops whenever someone disarms the system. Returning Home: When the user enters the home through an entry/exit door, the entry warning sounds and pathway lights come on and stay on until the user turns them off manually. Alarm While At Home or Away: In the event protection is violated on an armed system, all selected lights will come on and stay on for an hour. CHECKOUT AND TROUBLESHOOTING Checkout NOTE: The W7A takes approximately one minute to adjust to a new time setting.. Test that all lights come on and off using hidden menu 9 and the local telephone.. Check that the correct lights come on entry and exit.. Check that all lights come on in the event of an alarm. 4. Change the system time to some time after dark and check entry and exit and random operation of Lived-In- Look. (Some lights change every ten to fifteen minutes. Lights are never all on or all off.) 5. Check the ability to arm and disarm the system from the local telephone. 6. Use a second line or cellular telephone to check that the W7A responds to the correct ring count. 7. Check that there are no problems with other equipment sharing the same telephone line. Troubleshooting Table 7 lists trouble messages, problems and possible solutions. Table 7. Troubleshooting. Telephone Problems In the event of telephone problems, disconnect the control panel by removing the plug from the (CA8A in Canada) wall jack. This should leave the rest of the house phones in service if the problem is with the security equipment. Do not disconnect the phone connection inside the W7A or the local phones will be out of service. If the telephone service is still out after disconnecting the security system, the problem is with the phone system and they should be contacted for service. If the phone service returns when the security system is disconnected, Honeywell should be contacted for service. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Statement This equipment has been tested to FCC requirements and has been found acceptable for use. The FCC requires the following statement for your information: This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy and if not installed and used properly, that is, in strict accordance with the manufacturer s instructions, may cause interference to radio and television reception. It has been type tested and found to comply with the limits for Class B computing device in accordance with the specifications in Part 5 of FCC Rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference in a residential installation. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:. If using an indoor antenna, have a quality outdoor antenna installed.. Reorient the receiving antenna until interference is reduced or eliminated.. Move the receiver away from the control/ communicator. 4. Move the antenna leads away from any wire runs to the control/communicator. 5. Plug the control/communicator into a different power outlet so that it and the receiver are on different branch circuits. 6. If necessary, the user should consult the dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions. 7. If necessary, consult the booklet entitled Interference Handbook, prepared by the FCC. It is available from the U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 040. The user shall not make any changes or modifications to the equipment unless authorized by the Installation Instructions or User s Manual. Unauthorized changes or modifications could void the user s authority to operate the equipment. This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules. On the front cover of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, the FCC registration number and ringer equivalence number (REN) for this equipment. If requested, this information must be provided to the telephone company. The REN is needed to determine the quantity of devices that may be connected to the telephone line. Excessive REN on the telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the REN should not exceed five (5). To be certain of the number of REN that may be connected to your telephone line, add up the REN on your line and call the local telephone company and verify that you are below the maximum limit for your area. If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe necessary. 68-0

12 The telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens, the telephone company will provide advance notice in order for you to make the necessary modifications in order to maintain uninterrupted service. If trouble is experienced with this equipment, please contact the manufacturer for repair and warrantee information. If the trouble is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may request you to remove the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved. This equipment uses a to connect the W7A to the telephone network. There are no user serviceable components in this product, and all necessary repairs must be made by the manufacturer. Other repair methods may invalidate the FCC registration on this product. This equipment cannot be used on telephone companyprovided coin service. Connection to Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs. This equipment is hearing-aid compatible. When programming or making test calls to an emergency number, prior to initiating alarms, briefly explain to the Monitoring dispatcher the reason for the call.
