3 PREFACE The WJ-DR200 AV Disc Recorder can record up to 28,000 freeze pictures with a resolution of 720 x 480 (Fine Mode) on a large capacity optical disc (DVD- RAM). It can be set up to respond automatically to a sensor or alarm signal by recording the associated pictures. FEATURES Records clear freeze pictures Applies 3D Scan Conversion to record blur-compensated, clear freeze pictures from moving images. Vertical resolution is nearly double that of conventional VCR pictures. Reliable recording of events Obtain reliable records of important events by selecting the recording mode best suited for your purpose. There are three recording modes: Single Shot Recording: Records a single freeze picture. Multi Shot Recording: Records a continuous series of freeze pictures. Time Lapse Recording: Records freeze pictures at regular intervals. Easy picture search Three search modes for quick and easy picture search. List Search: Searches a list by recording date and time. Thumbnail Search: Searches displayed thumbnail images of recorded pictures. Direct Search: Searches by a recording date and time or record number directly specified by the user. Other handy recording functions Use the program timer function to preset the recording time and mode for each day of the week. Two video input channels for simultaneous recording of images from two cameras. Connect two Disc Recorders in series for uninterrupted recording when the disc of one recorder is full. ENGLISH -1-

4 PRECAUTIONS Refer all work related to the installation of this product to qualified service personnel or system installers. Do not block the ventilation opening or slots on the cover. To prevent the appliance from overheating, place it at least 5 cm (2 inches) away from the wall. Do not drop metallic parts through slots. This could permanently damage the appliance. Turn the power off immediately and contact qualified service personnel for service. Do not attempt to disassemble the appliance. To prevent electric shock, do not remove screws or covers. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Contact qualified service personnel for maintenance. Handle the appliance with care. Do not strike or shake, as this may damage the appliance. Fully charge up the backup battery. Keep the appliance turned on for at least 48 hours to recharge the backup battery. This procedure is necessary when using the appliance for the first time or after it has been unplugged for a long time from the AC outlet. Insufficient charging of the battery may cause erasure of settings if the AC power supply should fail. The battery, if fully charged, will back up the settings for 480 hours in an ordinary environment. We recommend that you note down your settings and retain them. Power or battery failure may erase settings you entered. Do not expose the appliance to water or moisture, nor try to operate it in wet areas. Do take immediate action if the appliance becomes wet. Turn the power off and refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Moisture may damage the appliance and also cause electric shock. Do not use strong or abrasive detergents when cleaning the appliance body. Use a dry cloth to clean the appliance when it is dirty. When the dirt is hard to remove, use a mild detergent and wipe gently. Do not operate the appliance beyond its specified temperature, humidity or power source ratings. Do not use the appliance in an extreme environment where high temperature or high humidity exists. Use the appliance at temperatures within +5 C C (41 F F) and a humidity below 90 %. The input power source for this appliance is 120 V AC 60 Hz. -2-

Operate indicator (OPERATE) Is on (green) when the Disc Recorder s power is turned on. 2. Remote indicator (REMOTE) Is on (orange) when the Disc Recorder is controlled by an outboard device through the Serial Control port (50). 3. Alarm Reset button (RESET) Cancels an activated alarm and resets the system to the condition prior to alarm activation. 4. Alarm indicator (ALARM) Lights (red) for two seconds when an alarm is activated and then starts blinking. Pressing the Alarm Reset button (3) will turn off the indicator. Alarm Recording indicator (ALARM REC) Is on (green) when the Disc Recorder is in Alarm Recording mode. 6. Recording indicator (REC) Is on (red) when the Disc Recorder is recording, and blinks when it is on standby for recording. 7. Disc indicator (DISC) Blinks/lights (red) when the recording capacity of the DVD-RAM disc is running low. (Blinks at 10% remaining space, blinks rapidly at 5%, and changes to steady light at 1%.) While overwriting in endless recording, continues to turn on for two seconds and off for half a second. PLAY T/L MODE FORMAT + REC LOCK OFF ON STOP OPEN/ CLOSE -3-

6 8. Disc cover Prevents dust from entering into the disc drive. Press to open. Do not open except to load or unload a disc. 13. Eject hole For sliding out the disc tray manually (by inserting a wire) if it is not ejected automatically when pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button (35). 9. Ventilation holes Allow air to enter the device to prevent it from overheating. Make sure not to block these holes. 10. Control Panel cover Press to open for access to the control buttons on the Control Panel. 11. Busy indicator (BUSY) Is on (green) when a disc is loaded. Is on (orange) when the disc drive is in operation. It also indicates an error condition in the disc recorder by blinking in green as follows: Blinks rapidly three times, followed by a 1-second interval. 0.2s 0.2s 1.0s An error has occurred on the disc in use. The disc is about to reach the end of its life cycle and should be replaced. Blinks rapidly twice, followed by a 1-second interval. 0.2s 0.2s 1.0s The unit s lens or disc needs cleaning. See page 46. Blinks once, followed by a 1-second interval. 0.2s < < 1.0s 21. Find button (FIND) Press to directly specify and play back a frame* Index button (INDEX) Press to search the disc for a recorded frame. 23. Alarm Recording button (ALARM REC STAND- BY) Enables/disables alarm recording. 24. Reverse Record button ( ) Left button Press to move the playback operation back one step to the previous record* 1. In the setup operation, moves the cursor to the left or select a parameter in reverse. 25. Reverse Frame button ( ) Down button Press in paused playback to move the playback operation back one step to the previous frame. In the setup operation, moves the cursor down one line. 26. Advance Frame button ( ) Up button Press in paused playback to advance the playback operation one step to the next frame. In the setup operation, moves the cursor up one line. 27. Set button (SET) In frame search, press to apply the entered value. In the setup operation, press to execute a selection and enter the submenu associated with the selected item. 28. Advance Record button ( ) Right button Press to advance the playback operation one step to the next record. In the setup operation, moves the cursor right or select a parameter forward. < Abnormal temperature rise inside the unit. Turn the power off and refer servicing to qualified service personnel. 12. Shutter For loading/unloading the disc. Pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button (35) on the Control Panel with the Disc Cover open will open the shutter and slide out the tray. 29. Pause button (ypause) Press to temporarily pause playback. Holding down the Pause button and pressing the REC button (31) will place the device into recording standby status. 30. Reverse Playback button (A) Press to play back frames in the reverse order they were recorded in. Holding the button down will speed up reverse playback, releasing it will restore the normal speed. -4-

7 31. Recording button (REC) Pressing the REC button will start recording in the previously defined mode. 32. Playback button (B) Pressing the (B) button will start playback. Holding the button down will speed up playback, releasing it will restore the normal speed. 33. Lock switch (LOCK OFF/ON) In ON position, locks out control of the Disc Recorder from the Control Panel and Parallel Control port (49). Keep normally in OFF position. 34. Stop button (STOP) Pressing the STOP button will terminate all modes of operation, such as recording, playback and setup. 35. Open/Close button (OPEN/CLOSE) Press to slide the disc tray out or in for loading or unloading a disc. Disabled while the Disc Cover (8) is closed. 36. Increment button (D+) Pressing the (D+) button in playback will decrease the playback speed. To play back the selected channel, press the PLAY BACK SELECT button (38). 37. Decrement button (C ) Pressing the (C ) button in playback will increase the playback speed. Pressing it in paused playback will decrement the playback channel (or camera ID). To play back the selected channel, press the PLAY BACK SELECT button (38). 38. Playback Select button (PLAY BACK SELECT) Pressing the PLAY BACK SELECT button after selecting the input channel with the (D+) (36) or (C ) (37) button will start playback of the respective channel. 39. Setup/Escape button (SET UP/ESC) Used in the Disc Recorder s setup operation. Pressing the button for about two seconds will establish Setup mode and display the Setup menu window. Pressing it in a menu will return you to the previous menu window. To terminate setup, press again for about two seconds. S-Video Input connector (VIDEO IN, S-VIDEO) For input of the S-video signal from an outboard device. 46. Video Output connector (VIDEO OUT) Outputs the selected composite video signal for the monitor. The A input images are displayed during recording, except when A and B inputs are recorded at a capture rate of one second or more. 47. S-Video Output connector (VIDEO OUT, S- VIDEO) Outputs the selected S- video signal for the monitor. 8 48. Audio Output/Input connectors (AUDIO OUT/IN) Provided for recording and playback of audio signals. 49. Parallel Control port (PARALLEL CONTROL) For connecting an outboard device used to remote control the Disc Recorder. 50. Serial Control port (SERIAL CONTROL) For connecting a Personal Computer and the like to remote control the Disc Recorder. 51. Camera Switching Output connector (CAMERA SW OUT) Outputs a pulse after each recorded frame. 52. Terminal Board For connecting output and input signals to and from outboard devices. 53. Alarm Output Level selector (OUTPUT LEVEL H/L) Switches the output level of the ALARM OUT and ALARM RECOVER terminals on the Terminal Board (52). The factory default is L. Alarm Output Alarm Recover Output 0 V 0 V H 12 V 5 V 5 V 0 V 5 V 0 V 54. Cooling fan Prevents temperature rise inside the unit. 55. AC socket For connecting the supplied power cord. 56. Power switch (POWER ON/OFF) Turns the power of the Disc Recorder on and off. L * 1 : A record is a batch of freeze pictures (frames) recorded in one recording session. * 2 : One recorded freeze picture is called a frame. -6-

9 INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM CONNECTIONS INSTALLATIONS The installations described below should be made by qualified service personnel or system installers. Mounting in the Rack 1. Remove the four rubber feet by removing the four screws from the bottom of the Disc Recorder. 3. Install the Disc Recorder with the rack mounting brackets in the rack by using four screws (not included). OPERATE Remove four rubber feet. 2. Place the rack mounting brackets on both sides of the Disc Recorder and tighten them with the four supplied screws (M4 X 10). OPERATE OPERATE Cautions: Do not block the ventilation opening or slots in the cover to prevent the appliance from overheating. Always keep the temperature in the rack within +40 C (104 F). Secure the rear of the appliance to the rack by using additional mounting brackets (procured locally) if the rack is subject to vibration. -7-

The polarities can be changed by setting the SIGNAL TYPE parameter in the Alarm Recording menu. Notes: Recording of freeze pictures from VCR playback is not provided as a function. Recording is possible, but the results may not be satisfactory depending on the type of VCR used. When the Disc Recorder is connected to several cameras, for example through a multiplexer, all camera inputs must be synchronized to obtain proper images. Refer all connection work to qualified service personnel or system installers. You need to set the communication parameters (DATA BIT, PARITY, etc.) on both the WJ-DR200 and the WJ-FS616. *3. This value applies to EXT 1. For EXT 4, set the parameter to 0.20 sec. or more. *4. Set this parameter to change the recording rate automatically when an alarm signal is received. *5. Set the recording time when alarm time lapse recording is required. -9-

12 Terminal Board The Terminal Board has the following functions. Make connections to these terminals as needed for operating your system. GND terminal is common ground for all terminals. (In Time Lapse mode, recording is enabled while this signal is input.) The ALARM indicator on the front panel of the Disc Recorder does not light in response to this recording input. (Any alarm output functions are disabled.) ALARM IN: Connects the input signal to start recording in Alarm Recording mode. (In Time Lapse mode, recording is enabled while this signal is input.) The Alarm indicator on the front panel of the Disc Recorder lights in response to this recording input. The buzzer sounds if the buzzer function was selected in the Setup menu. ALARM RESET IN: Connects the alarm and/or buzzer reset input when an alarm has been activated. SERIES REC IN: Connects an input signal to enable recording on two series-connected Disc Recorders. TIME ADJUST IN: Connects a time adjust input from an external source to synchronize the Disc Recorder s internal clock. When this input is detected, the time is adjusted to an accuracy of ±30 seconds. Output Terminals ALARM OUT: Sends an alarm signal in response to an alarm input. ALARM RECOVER OUT: Sends an alarm recover signal in response to the alarm reset signal received when the ALARM RESET button is pressed, or when recording in Alarm Recording mode is terminated. ALARM REC: Outputs an alarm recording signal while the Disc Recorder is operated in Alarm Recording mode. REC: Outputs an image recording signal while the Disc Recorder is recording pictures. The signal is interlocked with lighting of the REC indicator on the Disc Recorder s front panel DISC: Sends a signal when DVD-RAM disc space is running low. The signal s output parameters can be changed from the Setup menu. BUZZER OUT: Outputs a buzzer signal interlocked with the Disc Recorder s buzzer. SYSTEM ERROR OUT: Outputs an error signal when a fatal system error occurs in the Disc Recorder. THERMAL ERROR OUT: Outputs a signal when a temperature rise is detected in the Disc Recorder. TIME ADJUST OUT: Sends a time adjust signal used to slave the internal clocks of connected equipment to that of the Disc Recorder. Output as a 1-second pulse every day at 9:00 AM. SERIES REC OUT: Outputs a signal that enables recording on two series-connected Disc Recorders.

13 External Remote Control Parallel Control Port Connect an external remote control switch to the PARALLEL CONTROL port on the rear of the Disc Recorder as shown below. 15 Series Recording Connection The WJ-DR200 can be set up for automatic serial recording by connecting a second recorder to its Terminal Board. Series Recording 1 (Alternate Alarm Recording) Connect the terminals on the Terminal Boards of the MASTER and SLAVE recorder as shown below. Connect the required video and audio input to both recorders. This will enable recording alarms alternately on the MASTER and on the SLAVE recorder. When there is no more recording space on the disc of the MASTER recorder, alarm recording switches to the SLAVE recorder. 16 SETUP PROCEDURES The Setup Menu provides a way for controlling functions not available through direct input. Displaying the SETUP MENU 1. Confirm that the camera and peripherals are connected correctly and securely. 2. Turn on the power switches of all system components. 3. Press the SET UP/ESC button of the Disc Recorder for about 2 seconds or more. The MAIN menu appears on the monitor screen as shown below. SET: Executes the selections and displays a submenu for an item with the (*) mark. SET UP/ESC: Executes the currently selected setting and returns to the previous setup menu. ( ): Selects the next mode or parameter. (+): Selects the previous mode or parameter. SET PLAY MODE 1 ALL PLAY BACK SELECT T/L MODE FORMAT + In the MAIN menu, press the SET UP/ESC button for about 2 seconds to apply the setting and exit the setup mode. Note: If alarm is activated during the setup operation, the setup menu disappears and the display returns to the normal picture. Start Up Status Setup This item lets you select the start-up mode of the Disc Recorder when the power is turned on. 1. Select one of the interface modes shown below by pressing the or RS-232C, RS-232C (VCR mode) or RS-485 The default setting is RS-232C. 6. Move the cursor to the BAUD RATE parameter by pressing the or Note: It is recommended to select the modes shown below for normal usage. Select ALARM REC in the menu if the Alarm Recording mode is used frequently. MANUAL or ALARM REC mode can also be selected by pressing the ALARM REC STAND- BY button on the control panel of the recorder. Select DISC AND ALARM REC in the menu if the disc is exchanged each time after the Disc Recorder is powered up. The recorder automatically selects Alarm Record mode if a formatted disc is loaded. Serial Port Setup This item lets you set the parameters for communication between the SERIAL CONTROL port of the recorder and a PC when the Disc Recorder is remote controlled externally. 1. You can select camera images in playback mode. The video pixel number (resolution) is fixed at 720 * 240. A (CAMERA ID OFF): Records only input A without multiplexed Camera ID signals. A+B (CAMERA ID OFF): Records input A and B without multiplexed Camera ID signals. Use this parameter when two cameras are connected to the Disc Recorder. Note: When two recording inputs are selected, audio recording is disabled in Multi Shot and Time Lapse Recording mode. The default setting is A (CAMERA ID OFF). 6. Move the cursor to the CAMERA TYPE parameter by pressing the or 7. Select either COLOR or B/W depending on the connected camera by pressing the or COLOR: Select this mode when a color camera is connected for input. B/W: Select this mode when a black and white camera is connected for input. The default setting is COLOR. 8. Move the cursor to the INPUT CHECK parameter by pressing the or 9. Move the cursor to the STATUS DISPLAY parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or EMBEDDED: Enables time and date display only in recording mode and status display in playback mode. The default setting is ON. Alarm Display Setup This item lets you enable or disable alarm display on the monitor screen. 1. Move the cursor to the ALARM DISPLAY parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or 2. Select either ON or OFF by pressing the or ON: Enables alarm display on the monitor screen. OFF: Disables alarm display on the monitor screen The default setting is ON. Display Position Setup This item lets you select the positions where the alarm and status displays are placed on the monitor screen. 1. 21 Series Recording Setup This item lets you designate the master and the slave recorder when more than one Disc Recorder is used for series recording. 1. Move the cursor to the SERIES REC parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or 2. Select either MASTER or SLAVE by pressing the or MASTER: Designates a master recorder. SLAVE 1-15: Designates a slave recorder. Set the SLAVE 1 parameter for the second recorder. In Alternate Time Lapse Recording, you can record in sequence on up to 16 connected recorders. When three or more recorders are connected, set SLAVE 2 for the the third recorder, SLAVE 3 for the fourth, and so on up to SLAVE 15. The SLAVE 2-15 recorders are activated in numerical sequence. The default setting is MASTER. Series Recording Output Setup This item lets you set the signal type for the SERIES REC OUT terminal on the Terminal Board located on the rear of the Disc Recorder. 1. Move the cursor to the SERIES REC OUT parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or 2. Select either OPEN or CLOSE by pressing the or OPEN: CLOSE: Supplies the series recording output signal when the Disc Recorder is not in recording mode. Select this parameter for Alternate Alarm Recording (page 37). Supplies the series recording output signal when the Disc Recorder is in recording mode. Select this parameter for Alternate Time Lapse Recording (page 37). The default setting is CLOSE. 1. Move the cursor to the DISC LED FUNCTION parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or 2. Select either SPACE or FULL by pressing the or SPACE: Signal is output when disc space is running low (interlocks the signal with the DISC indicator on the Disc Recorder s front panel). See page 3. FULL: Signal is output when the disc is full. The default setting is FULL. Buzzer Setup This item lets you enable or disable the buzzer sound accompanying operation of the Disc Recorder s buttons. 1. Move the cursor to the BUZZER parameter in the SYSTEM menu by pressing the or 2. Select either ON or OFF by pressing the or ON: Enables buzzer. OFF: Disables buzzer. The default setting is ON. Recording Mode Menu This menu lets you set the recording mode for recording on the DVD-RAM disk. Select MODE 1 or MODE 2 and set up the items as shown below. MODE 1: This is the normal recording mode. Make sure to set up all items. MODE 2: Available with Program Recording only. (See pagees 27 and 38.) Select the desired mode by pressing the or 720 * 480/3DIM ON: High resolution none-blur picture. 720 * 480/3DIM OFF: High resolution picture 720 * 240: Lower resolution, but higher number of frames. The default setting is 720 * 480/3DIM ON. The parameter is fixed at 720 * 240 when the CAM- ERA INPUT parameter in the VIDEO INPUT menu is set to A (CAMERA ID ON). Video Quality (Compression Rate) Setup This item lets you set the quality of the video picture by selecting a compression rate. 1. Refer to the Multi Shot menu on page 21 or Time Lapse menu on page 22 for details. Endless Recording Setup This item lets you enable or disable uninterrupted recording when the disc space is used up. This function conforms to REC MODE 1 and is not available in REC MODE Move the cursor to the ENDLESS parameter in the REC MODE menu by pressing the or 2. Select either ON or OFF by pressing the or ON: Continues recording when the disc is full by overwriting the oldest data. OFF: Stops recording when the disc is full. The default setting is OFF. 1. 24 Pre/Post Frames This item lets you specify the number of pre-frames. A pre-frame is a frame recorded during standby for manual recording or prior to input of the alarm signal in alarm recording. A post-frame is a frame recorded after the REC button was pressed in manual recording or after input of the alarm signal in alarm recording. 2. Select either pattern by pressing the or SAME AS ALARM: Same recording pattern as for alarm activation DIFF FROM ALARM: Different recording pattern than for alarm activation The default setting is SAME AS ALARM. 1. Move the cursor to the PRE/POST FRAMES parameter in the MULTI SHOT menu by pressing the or 2.
