18 What you should discuss with New Homeowners: Location of telephone and data points Location of NBN Equipment Network Termination Device, Power Supply Unit & Fibre Wall Outlet Importance of fixed cabling* in the home for future services like IPTV, Smart TV s, etc. * Connecting a wireless modem will not allow customers to utilise applications throughout their homes like IPTV. Ensure Category 5 cabling or higher is installed in all new homes
19 Network Termination Device (NTD) UNI-V (Voice) Port x2 Fibre Input Port UNI-D (Data) Port x 4 Power Connection The NTD is a boundary point for the fibre network and allows the user network interface (UNI) to connect to the customer wiring. It is roughly the same size as a DSL modem. There are 2 x RJ-11 ports known as UNI-V ports, they will not be used in the Armidale FRS. There are 4 x RJ-45 ports known as UNI-D ports; up to 4 ports/rsps will be used in the Armidale FRS. They are not common; each port is an individual terminating point for an RSP/service. The power port will accept the connecter from the PSU. The fibre input port accepts the fly lead from the FWO; this has a secure cover to prevent accidental disconnection or tampering with live fibre cable.
20 NTD Pre-Installation Request For a smooth and efficient connection to high-speed broadband for your customers, Builders can now request an NTD Pre Install. NTDs should be installed at least 10 days prior to occupation The NTD pre-install process is only available where Developments have been NBN Co. approved Pre-Installation can take up to 1 hour for completion Call to request NTD Pre-Install Ensure the following is ready when you call: Account Name (Development Name) Location Confirm the fibre pathway (conduit) is in place Confirm power availability date Advise number of Premises Projected Date for Pre-Install
21 How new homeowners activate services over the NBN? Certified Service Providers that have gone through the NBN onboarding process and can deliver products and services over the NBN can be found on our website at: NBN Co has so far signed with 21 different Retail Service Providers to provide telecommunications services over the National Broadband Network.
