1 Reviewed October 2014 due for review October 2015 LEARNING TO SUCCEED Emergency Evacuation Policy and Procedure IMPORTANT - Should you leave the premises at any time ensure you sign the register at reception so that SLT know your whereabouts in case of an emergency. IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE Sound the alarm Only if your safety is not at risk contact the emergency services - dial 999 Only if your safety is not at risk contact SLT/reception and report the fire (dial 100 on telephone or Channel 8 on walkie-talkie) Do NOT tackle the fire unless you have been properly trained and ONLY after assessing the risk and/or where life is in danger Evacuate the building as soon as possible by the nearest safe route Report to the fire assembly point on the lower field beside the English/Maths huts When the fire alarm sounder rings continuously: ALL : followed by appropriate category below See below for Sports Hub Evacuation Procedure Evacuate the building immediately by the nearest safe route Do NOT take risks Do NOT use the lifts Do NOT stop to collect bags and belongings Do NOT re-enter the building until permission has been given by the responsible Fire Officer/SLT Report any matters of concern relating to the evacuation process to your tutor/line manager STUDENTS (YEARS 7 to 11) Follow the guidance of your class teacher Proceed to the lower field beside the English/Maths huts and to your House area (see notes/diagram below) Line up in silence in your Tutor group in alphabetical order STUDENTS (Post 16 Learning Centre) Follow the guidance of your class tutor Proceed to the front of the Post 16 Learning Centre

2 FORM TUTORS Close all windows and ensure you have a pen or pencil Supervise the evacuation of the students via the nearest safe fire exit Close the classroom door Ensure fire doors are closed Proceed to the lower field beside the English/Maths huts and to your House area Ensure that your Tutor group is lined up in alphabetical order and is silent Collect paper register from Head of House Register students in your Tutor group Return register to Head of House and highlight absentees Continue supervision of your Tutor group. It is your responsibility that students remain silent and facing the same way. If a student is misbehaving they should be placed at the back of their Tutor group and their Tutor must discuss their behaviour with them Await guidance from the Headteacher or her Deputy before leading your form back into the buildings HEADS OF HOUSE/DIRECTOR of EFFECTIVE LEARNING Ensure walkie-talkie is in use on Channel 8 Collect House registers from Administration staff and distribute to tutors Check that all tutors, including supply teachers and other teachers, are present and allocate support staff as necessary Inform the Headteacher or their deputy and/or Fire Officer immediately of any absent staff. Collect list of absentees from Administration Manager or Attendance Officer Work with Administration Support staff to track absentees Inform the Administration Manager and Attendance Officer of unaccounted students Dispatch completed registers to Administration Manager Supervise your House until dismissal is directed by Fire Officer/SLT DIRECTOR OF POST 16 STUDIES/POST 16 STUDENT SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR Ensure walkie-talkie is in use on Channel 8 Ensure all students vacate the building, assemble outside the Post 16 Learning Centre but away from the buildings and all remain outside until clearance has been given. Monitor movement to ensure students are always accounted for Collect register and list of absent students from the Post 16 Student Services Administrator and distribute to tutors Check that all tutors, including supply teachers and other teachers, are present. Inform the Headteacher or their deputy and/or Fire Officer immediately of any absent staff. Work with Post 16 Student Services Administrator to track absentees Inform the Headteacher or her Deputy and/or Fire Officer immediately of any unaccounted students Supervise students dismissal as directed by Fire Officer /SLT

3 ADMINISTRATION MANAGER and ATTENDANCE OFFICER On hearing the fire alarm bell, print the absence lists and then evacuate the building Distribute copies of the list to Heads of House Receive completed check lists of unaccounted students and inform the Headteacher or their deputy and/or Fire Officer immediately of these details Receive completed registers from Heads of House LEARNING TUTORS and EFFECTIVE LEARNING ASSISTANTS Staff should register with the Director of Effective Learning or in her absence the deputy. Once registered, nominated staff proceed to House areas as allocated, in order to: Assist Heads of House in distributing registers as indicated on house lists Cover form tutor groups in the event of the absence of tutors Assist Heads of House in collecting completed registers Assist Heads of House in checking absence lists and compiling details of unaccounted students LEARNING TUTORS and EFFECTIVE LEARNING ASSISTANTS WORKING WITH STUDENTS WHO HAVE A DISABILITY Turn radio to channel 4 Notify NP/SR of your position by radio IF YOU ARE ON THE GROUND FLOOR Proceed to the back field behind the English/Maths huts and to your designated area Confirm actions with NP/SR on channel 4 IF YOU ARE UPSTAIRS ON THE A CORRIDOR Proceed to the nearest stairwell Ensure the doors to the stairwell are shut Do not attempt to go down the stairs Wait for assistance/instruction Confirm actions with NP/SR on channel 4 SUPPORT STAFF First Aid students to be escorted out of the building and directed/assisted to assemble with their house. Administration staff EH/DB/BR/MA will bring out register sheets, along with all signing in/out sheets and first aid information. Receptionist to check visitor log with all assembled visitors MA will issue registers to Towan DB will issue registers to Tolcarne EH will issue registers to Porth BR will issue registers to Fistral

4 All support staff register a.s.a.p. with JD (Jill Donnelly) or EH (Emma Hurst), Any unaccounted persons to be reported to SLT immediately (ROS, DUN, ONL) Once registered, nominated support staff proceed to House areas as allocated, in order to: Assist Heads of House in distributing registers as indicated on house lists Cover form tutor groups in the event of the absence of tutors Assist Heads of House in collecting completed registers Assist Heads of House in checking absence lists and compiling details of unaccounted students SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM Ensure walkie-talkie is in use on Channel 8 Supervise evacuation of the building and assemble on the lower field beside the English/Maths huts or front of the Post 16 Learning Centre as appropriate Check for the presence of the Heads of Houses and Director of Post 16 Studies and cover as necessary. Advise Headteacher or Fire Officer of any unaccounted teaching staff Supervise dismissal of students from the assembly points when advised by the Fire Officer or Headteacher. HEADTEACHER and DEPUTY HEADTEACHERS Ensure walkie-talkie is in use on Channel 8 for communication with SLT and Channel 6 for communication with Site Team Supervise evacuation of the building and assemble on the lower field beside the English/Maths huts Check with Site Team over the circumstances of the evacuation alarm Ensure emergency services have been contacted as required (Dial 999) Ascertain the complete evacuation of all bodies from the premises Advise Fire Officer of any unaccounted persons Ensure the site is clear of any danger before releasing anyone back into the building SUPPLY TEACHERS and OTHER TEACHING STAFF Report to a Head of House and assist as necessary SITE TEAM Ensure walkie-talkie is active and on Channel 6 On hearing the fire alarm report to the Reception fire control point Check with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers about the location of the alarm Ensure the fire control point is monitored by a member of SLT and proceed to alarm point Inform the Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers about the cause of the alarm, unless a fire is evident If a fire is evident liaise with SLT about contacting emergency services and ensure all roadways are clear for emergency vehicles VISITING ADULTS Evacuate the building Assemble adjacent to the back of H3 & H4 Hut on the lower field Await roll-call from the Receptionist as per the visitor log

5 VISITING LEARNERS Evacuate the building Assemble adjacent to the back of H3 & H4 Hut on the lower field Await roll-call from Tutor CATERING STAFF Evacuate the building Assemble on the service road away from the building Await roll-call from Unit Manager Unit Manager to report to Director of Business and Finance IF YOU ARE ON THE GROUND FLOOR STUDENTS WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY Follow the direction of your Effective Learning Assistant Proceed to the back field, line up on hard ground between H5 & H4 Line up in silence with ELC students Ensure you answer when your name is called IF YOU ARE UPSTAIRS ON THE A CORRIDOR Follow the guidance of your Effective Learning Assistant who will be in contact with SLT by radio Proceed to the nearest stairwell Ensure the doors to the stairwell are shut Do not attempt to go down the stairs Wait for assistance/instruction IF YOU ARE ON THE GROUND FLOOR ADULT VISITORS WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY Proceed to the back playing field and wait on the playground in front of the student body Await roll call from the Receptionist as per the visitor log Do NOT leave or re-enter the site until advised IF YOU ARE UPSTAIRS ON THE A CORRIDOR Proceed to the nearest stairwell Ensure the doors to the stairwell are shut Do not attempt to go down the stairs Wait for assistance/instruction

6 LEARNING TO SUCCEED Emergency Evacuation Policy and Procedure The Sports IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE Sound the alarm Only if your safety is not at risk contact the emergency services - dial 999 Only if your safety is not at risk contact SLT/reception and report the fire (dial 100 on telephone or Channel 8 on walkie-talkie) Do NOT tackle the fire unless you have been properly trained and ONLY after assessing the risk and/or where life is in danger Evacuate the building as soon as possible by the nearest safe route Report to the fire assembly points, these will be:- Treviglas teaching staff on the lower field beside the English huts Sports Hub staff at the entrance to the community use car park at the front of the building Within the Sports Hub, if the fire alarm rings continuously this will mean that the alarms have been triggered within the Sports Hub and a full evacuation is required. Should the fire alarm panel in the community entrance beep this will be advising that the fire alarm is ringing in the main school and an evacuation is taking place. At this time an evacuation of the Sports Hub is NOT REQUIRED for community users but WILL BE REQUIRED for all students. Should the fire alarm change to a continuous siren then an evacuation will be required for everyone using the Sports Hub. When the bell rings continuously In The Sports Hub: ALL : followed by appropriate category below Evacuate the building immediately by the nearest safe route Do NOT take risks Do NOT use the lifts Do NOT stop to collect bags and belongings Do NOT re-enter the building until permission has been given by the responsible Fire Officer/SLT Report any matters of concern relating to the evacuation process to duty manager/line manager

7 STUDENTS (YEARS 7 to 11) Follow the guidance of your PE teacher and/or Sports Hub staff Proceed to the double basketball court opposite the outside changing rooms staying in your groups Line up in silence in alphabetical order STUDENTS (Post 16 Learning Centre) Follow the guidance of your class tutor Proceed to the double basketball court opposite the outside changing rooms PE TEACHERS Follow guidance of Sports Hub staff Ensure you have a pen or pencil Supervise the evacuation of the students via the nearest safe fire exit Take students to the relevant areas DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SPORT/SPORTS HUB STAFF/COMMUNITY USERS Ensure that all school staff have removed pupils from the building Ensure that all areas have been vacated Ensure all doors and windows are closed Ensure all members of the public vacate the building by the nearest fire exit and assemble at the entrance to the community car park in front of the building Ensure a register is taken and checked against booking sheets at reception and with the necessary coaches. Any first aid casualties to be dealt with at the assembly point where ever possible. Any unaccounted persons to be reported to Fire Officer/SLT immediately. TREVIGLAS SUPPORT STAFF First Aid students to be escorted out of the building and directed/assisted to assemble on the basketball courts opposite the outside changing rooms. Administration staff MA/EH/BR/DB will bring out register sheets, along with all signing in/out sheets and first aid information for all school students. EH to check visitor log with all assembled visitors EH will issue registers to Towan DB will issue registers to Tolcarne BR will issue registers to Porth MA will issue registers to Fistral

8 TREVIGLAS SITE TEAM Ensure walkie-talkie is active and on Channel 6 On hearing the fire alarm report to the Sports Hub fire control panel Check the location of the alarm Ensure the fire control point is monitored by a member of SLT and proceed to alarm point Inform the Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers about the cause of the alarm, unless a fire is evident If a fire is evident liaise with SLT about contacting emergency services and ensure all roadways are clear for emergency vehicles When The Sports Hub Alarm Panel Sounds (Not a full alarm) ALL : followed by appropriate category below School staff and students to evacuate the building immediately by the nearest safe route Do NOT take risks Do NOT use the lifts Do NOT stop to collect bags and belongings Do NOT re-enter the building until permission has been given by the responsible Fire Officer/SLT Report any matters of concern relating to the evacuation process to duty manager/line manager STUDENTS (YEARS 7 to 11) Follow the guidance of your PE teacher Proceed to the lower field beside the English huts and to your House area (as per school policy & procedures) Line up in silence in your Tutor group in alphabetical order STUDENTS (Post 16 Learning Centre) Follow the guidance of your class tutor Proceed to the front of the Post 16 Learning Centre PE TEACHERS Follow guidance of Sports Hub staff Close all windows and ensure you have a pen or pencil Supervise the evacuation of the students via the nearest safe fire exit Close any doors Ensure fire doors are closed Take students to the relevant areas

9 DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SPORT/SPORTS HUB STAFF Ensure that all school staff have removed pupils from the building Ensure school reception are contacted and they make contact with SLT on call Ensure that all areas have been vacated by students Ensure all members of the public stay in the building as normal as this is not affecting them. TREVIGLAS SUPPORT STAFF First Aid students to be escorted out of the building and directed/assisted to assemble with their house. Administration staff EH/EH/DB/BR/MA will bring out register sheets, along with all signing in/out sheets and first aid information for all school students.. EH to check visitor log with all assembled visitors EH will issue registers to Towan DB will issue registers to Tolcarne BR will issue registers to Porth MA will issue registers to Fistral All support staff register a.s.a.p. with the Headteacher s PA. 10 Policy No. 5a Emergency Evacuation Assembly Points on lower field See diagram on next page In the case of the fire bell ringing the following will apply: Porth House Line up on the left hand side of the lower field near the English Huts Tutor groups will line up in alphabetical order: BRY, BUN, FAL, JOH, MLI, ROM, SEY/PKN, WLS Tolcarne House Line up in the middle, hut side of the lower field near the English Huts Tutor groups will line up in alphabetical order: BOE, BRI, COL, DRA, KIN, LOB, PRS, WYG Towan House Line up on the right hand side of the lower field in front of white Elliott huts (H1 and H2 2013/14) Tutor groups will line up in alphabetical order: CMB, GRA, GRY, MUS, TAY, TUP, WEL, WHT Fistral House Line up on the right hand side of the lower field and right hand side of white Elliott huts (H1 and H2 2013/14) as you look into the field. Tutor groups will line up in alphabetical order: CLI, FLE, GOU, JHN, NIO, PCK, RIC, SIB, ELC Assemble between hut 5 & 4 on hard area Post 16 Learning Centre Line up in front of the Post 16 Learning Centre on the pathway beside the disabled parking bays.
