6 SECTION E MEMBERS CLASSES FLOWER ARRANGING WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PETITE CLASSES, AND CLASS 78 ALL ENTRIES MUST BE ARRANGED IN THE HALL EITHER ON THE FRIDAY EVENING OR THE SATURDAY MORNING OF THE EXHIBITION, AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SHOW TIMETABLE. 7 82. 4 pieces of Millionaires shortbread 83. A vegetable based cake e.g. carrot, courgette, etc. 84. A dish of cheese straws 85. A portion of Leek and Potato soup Cup cakes 87. A Cheesy Oat Flan, made to the following recipe Recipe Oat pastry; 125g (4oz) Whole meal flour 125g (4oz) Medium oatmeal 125g (4oz) Margarine Pinch of salt 2 3 tbls water Filling: 2 tablespoons oil, 2 chopped onions, 2 eggs, 150ml (¼ pt) milk, 250g (8oz) grated cheddar cheese. Make the pastry in the usual way and line a 8 flan dish. Chill for 15 minutes. Meanwhile make filling. Fry onions gently before mixing with other ingredients. Pour into flan case and bake in a moderate oven 190c (375f) gas mark 5 for minutes. If the pastry breaks up carefully fit together in flan case. Good luck. SECTION G MEMBERS CLASSES HANDICRAFT 88. 9 POTATO COMPETITION We are having a potato competition for the junior section in the autumn show. The idea being to grow your own spuds. Plastic growing sacks, seed potatoes and instructions will be available at the Spring show. All you have to supply is the multipurpose compost, then before the autumn show empty your sacks and bring all your spuds to exhibit, classes 442 and 446. SECTION K OPEN TO ALL JUNIOR CLASSES All 10 years and under classes are sponsored by Kieron James Toys of Lindfield High Street Aged 10 years and under 113. 10 GUIDE TO DAFFODIL DIVISIONSS All daffodils are classified into one of thirteen divisions. Below are the definitions for each Division: Key: perianth=petals pedical= neck Division 1 Trumpet Daffodil Cultivars One flower to a stem; coronaa (trumpet) as long as, or longer than, the perianth segments Division 2 Large cupped Daffodil Cultivars One flower to a stem; coronaa (cup) more than one thirdd but less than equal to the length of the perianth segments. Division 3 Small cupped Daffodil Cultivars One flower to a stem; coronaa (cup) not more than one third the length of the perianth segments Division 4 Double Daffodill Cultivars One or more flowers to a stem, with doubling of the perianth segments or the corona or both. 31

11 Division 5 Triandrus Daffodil Cultivars Characteristics of Triandrus predominant: usually two or more pendent flowers to a stem; perianth segments reflexed. Division 6 Cyclamineus Daffodil Cultivars Characteristicss of Cyclamineus clearly evident: one flower to a stem; perianth segments significantly reflexed; flower at an acutee angle to the stem, withh very short pedicel Division 7 Jonquilla and Apodanthus Daffodil Cultivars Characteristics of sections Jonquilla or Apodanthi clearlyy evident:one to five f flowers too a stem; perianth segments spreading or reflexed; flowerss usually fragrant. Division 8 Tazetta Daffodill Cultivars Characteristics of the Tazetta group predominant: usually three to twenty flowers to a stout stem; leaves broad; perianth segments spreading,, not reflexed; flowers fragrant. Division 9 Poeticus Daffodil Cultivars Characteristics of the N. poeticus group predominant: usually disc shaped, with a green or yellow center and one flower to a stem; s perianth segments pure white corona usually a red rim; flower fragrant. 32

12 Division 10 Bulbocodium Daffodil Cultivars Characteristicss of Section Bulbocodium clearly evident; usually one flowerr to a stem; perianth segments insignificant compared with corona; filament and style are usually curved. Division 11 Split Corona Daffodil Cultivars Corona split usually for more than half its length; Division split into a & b types, Collar & Papillon a) Collar Daffodils Daffodils with the t corona segments opposite the perianth segments; coronaa segments usually in twoo whorls of three. b) Papillon Daffodils Split corona daffodils with the corona segments alternate to the perianth segments; the corona segments usually in a singlee whorl of six. Division 12 Other Daffodil Cultivars Daffodil cultivars which do not fit the definition of any other division. Division 13 Daffodils distinguished Solelyy by botanical name All species and wild or reputedly wild variants and hybrids. 33
