1 1 of 9 8/31/2016 4:42 PM NIBCA September 2016 News to Know! Message from the E.O. I hope you have enjoyed your summer and have had time to relax and make memories with your families and loved ones! If not, it's not too late. Let's make it our mission for the 3-day weekend ahead! I want to take a moment and thank the 15 NIBCA member builders that participated this year: Affordable Custom Builders, Architerra Homes, Aspen Homes & Development, Axiom Homes, Bane Built Construction, Blue Ribbon Builders, Glacier Homes, Greenstone, Hayden Homes, Laminated Building Systems, Monarch Custom Homes, Monogram Homes, Precision Bilt Homes, Rosenberger Construction, and Timbered Ridge Homes. We wouldn't have a show without you and the NIBCA and Shelly Donovan NIBCA Executive Officer Coeur d'alene community would truly miss out. Thank you for your hard work and I hope you found it as beneficial to your company as NIBCA did! The Show would also not happen if it wasn't for the Parade of Homes Committee and volunteers. These associate members put in countless volunteer hours to make sure that all the details were in place to ensure a successful show. It showed in the well attended 'Night of Awards Hoedown' at the Hayden Lake Country Club and also throughout the 5 show days. Please thank them and show your appreciation by choosing a member to do business with. I want to thank the 2016 NIBCA Parade of Homes Sponsors who invested in time and money to ensure that our event met budget: HomeStreet Bank, Mountain West Bank, Idaho Central Credit Union, Gargoyle Granite & Marble, Aspen Homes & Development, bankcda, Avista Utilities, Fairway Floor, Inc., and Blue Sky Broadcasting. I want to give one last shout-out to Cel Demers with Spokane Carpet One. She volunteered to be the Chairman of the event and went above and beyond in that role. She was quick to help wherever needed and showed true servant leadership to those around her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Cel! I'm looking forward to working with you again in the future! Thank you for your support of NIBCA and the building industry. I hope to see you at the Golf Tournament next week and the Gone Wild event in November. Kind Regards,

Fall Maintenance Tips Plants are still blooming and temps are still well above freezing, but don't be fooled - the seasons will soon be changing. Before fall and winter are officially upon us, now is the time to focus on some simple home maintenance projects to prepare for the chilly weather ahead. The best part is that many of these projects can be done at little or no cost, and they can help you save money on your energy bills. More importantly, they help enhance and protect one of your biggest investments: your home. Here are a few projects to cross off your to-do list: Mind the Gaps Heated air can escape from gaps that develop where building materials meet. Click here to read more. Light Up Your Home This Fall The days are slowly getting shorter and the lights in your home are gradually getting more use. Lighting is an afterthought for many home owners, but it can completely changes the look and feel of any room. The style of fixtures you choose, where you
7 7 of 9 8/31/2016 4:42 PM place them and the type of bulbs you use can all affect the mood and functionality of your home. By applying a few simple concepts, you can light up your home in a way that is useful, stylish and efficient, all at once! Think of lighting in layers: 1. Ambient lighting creates a base layer to establish the tone of the whole room. Click here to read more. IBS is only 131 Days Away! The International Builders Show or IBS is the largest light construction show in the world, attracting more than 60,000 visitors from over 100 countries. It takes place in Orlando, Florida starting on January 10th to the 12th, New NIBCA members within the past 12 months can attend for only $150. Contact NIBCA for more details. If You're Not Lead-Safe Certified, Lead Paint Could Cost You Big Time Think lead paint doesn't affect your business? Think again. An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule to protect children from lead exposure mandates that all renovation and repair contractors working in pre-1978 homes, schools, and day care centers who disrupt more than six square feet of lead paint are required to become EPA Certified in lead-safe work practices. Renovation contractors are required to take a one-day training course and firms must send a short application to the EPA. If not, they could face thousands of dollars in fines, and - even worst - be responsible for harming their customers. Click here to read more. Also, plan to attend the NIBCA Sept. Joint Government Issues Meeting on Tuesday, September 20th from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at NIBCA as our guest speakers are Laurie Fay and Jennifer Sulcer of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
