1 DANIEL S. HARRIS City Planning Portfolio
2 BIO Daniel S. Harris Daniel Harris is a planner with a passion for public spaces and sustainable urban design. Daniel manages redevelopment urban design and planning efforts for Topology, a boutique planning firm based in Newark, NJ. Daniel has led design efforts for private developers in Jersey City, Hoboken, and Red Bank, New Jersey, and has worked closely with municipal governments to analyze redevelopment potential and develop land use controls and design standards in Newark and Morristown among others. Before joining Topology, Daniel researched regional demographic and economic trends to inform community programs at the Voorhees Center for Civic Engagement. Daniel has experience in transit planning from NJ Transit, where he redesigned information displays and signage at the agency s major commuter bus terminals to clearly communicate with riders. Daniel earned his Master of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University s Bloustein School for Planning and Public Policy in His studies focused on land use and development that creates economic and development opportunities for diverse populations in communities across New Jersey. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Daniel has been based in the Pacific Northwest for nearly three years. He lives in Seattle with his husband.

7 NORTH JERSEY SENIOR SERVICES STUDY DEMOGRAPHIC AND HOUSING MAPS As part of a senior services study in Northern New Jersey, I mapped population change among people 65 and older in the study area. This helped the research team identify migration, aging and housing trends in New Jersey s four northeastern counties. APPLICATIONS ARCGIS The senior services research team assessed housing costs and affordable housing options for seniors throughout the study area. To get better sense of where senior homeowners are struggling, I mapped housing costs, effective tax burdens and federally subsidized affordable housing for the region. APPLICATIONS ARCGIS Page 05

15 MORRISTOWN MOBILITY INITIATIVE TOWN GREEN REDESIGN Proposed Redesign At the heart of Morristown s transportation network, downtown, and public life, the Town Green was the central focus of the Town s initiative to improve mobility for all users. The reconfigured and redesigned Green will help reduce traffic delays by 30% and enhance Morristown s central public space for its residents to take pride in.
