1 Building Regional Capacity for Impact Assessment Mapping Regional Resources August, 2014 The goal of this HIA of the Americas/SOPHIA mapping project is to augment existing documentation of HIA resources across the Americas. It is our hope that the maps/ data lists below will help build an understanding of the distribution of HIA resources, and inspire thought and discussion about how to continue to build capacity for the future practice and development of HIAs. The subgroup decided on the following four data layers to develop: HIA programs HIA technical assistance programs HIA funders HIA university courses A working definition was created for each layer (see definitions listed on each map or list below). Given the working group s limited time and resources, there may be additional data points that were not included on these maps/ lists. We hope that SOPHIA s members will help to fill in the data gaps, and help us think about how these maps/ lists could be useful for the field. Moving forward, we would like for SOPHIA members (and attendees of the 2014 HIA of the Americas workshop) to consider the following questions in regards to these maps/ data lists. How could this resource be useful to you in growing capacity for HIA in your region? Are there existing resources, such as the Impact Project s maps of HIA projects, that these maps could be used to complement? 3 Impact Assessment Programs An individual or organization that currently commits a significant amount of time and resources (DEFINE) to conduct health impact assessments, build capacity of others to do HIA work, or funds others to conduct HIAs.
