2 Course Description This session will: Explore the intersection of Active Design and sustainability. Specific implementation concerns for creating more sustainable communities and neighborhoods using Active Design will be addressed while highlighting: tools that help practitioners link design to observed neighborhood performance; a LEED Pilot Credit; and case studies detailing implementation strategies that support health in a range of planning, campus, building, and open space projects.

3 Learning Objectives Become familiar with NYC s Active Design Guidelines and utilize specific urban design and building design strategies to promote health through physical activity while reducing environmental impacts Describe Active Design s synergistic relationship with universal and sustainable design, and understand how to apply the LEED Pilot Credit, Design for Active Occupants, for building projects Recognize successfully implemented Active Design strategies in a range of planning, campus, building, and open space projects Utilize the principles of Active Design to promote the health of building users through physical activity while reducing environmental impacts
