4 DESCRIPTION The Sky City as a flow attractor and a generator manages the large amount of flows and to make sure the fluidity and efficiency of the network. There is a concentrated transportation node- the Transit Station that interconnect the airport to the city centre, especially the upgraded State Highway 1 will boost the future speed of the movement in airport. However, this network highly requires on vehicles while giving constraints on providing easy accessibility to pedestrians and users. The Sky City is aim to save people s travel time including the time after passengers get off planes. Great legibility in terminal and easy access routes to city centre for passengers are highly required. It will become a favorite destination for Christchurch residents, especially families. Providing excellent service and unrivalled capabilities to create exceptional journeys delivers the world s best airport experience. Every journey through Christchurch Airport is an opportunity to bring people together and help them realise their aspirations. 5 DESCRIPTION Spatial movements and flows, variations overtime in the Sky City, interactions, experiences and identities are a constant focus of this project. All of the interventions aim for the spaces in question to maintain their dynamic after they are built, so that they will evolve with time and uses, as if they had their own memory and sensations. is one of the key interventions in the Sky City that performs as a flow director in the transitional zone that links CIA Terminal, Night Garden, Transit Station and Antarctic Centre into one axis. It gives a sense of pedestrian-mobility to highlight the necessary methods to address the chaotic, congested and unappealing condition of the existing circulation and car-dependency state in Christchurch Airport. The most dynamic public space and enhance the Sky City as a creative, thriving and engaging urban center. With innovative pedestrian spaces, renovated public plazas, rearranged traffic flow, aesthetically pleasing street furniture and wind gardens for creative displays of public art and the history of CIA, passengers, residents and visitors alike can experience the Sky City as a quality public space.
