3 Commercial Strip Development History and Enabling Practices Stretching for miles in what seems to be an undifferentiated landscape of signs, driveways, parking lots and cheap buildings, the American commercial strip is one of the most exasperating and yet ubiquitous urban forms ever created. Occurring in nearly every settlement of any size in the country, the strip is everywhere the same and everywhere an eyesore. --- Brenda Case Scheer 3
