14 Blending & Dosing Summit Systems MD, Mike Jordan, met the inventor of the WSB (Weigh Scale Blender) and founder of Maguire, Steve Maguire, in America in The meeting led to Mike bringing the WSB concept to Europe. Summit Systems is now in its 3rd decade of partnership with Maguire, sharing a building in Tamworth. As Mike Jordan says: The WSB is a fantastic design which our customers find utterly reliable. Its accurate measurement has saved huge amounts of material and associated costs over the years. Why pay more for the gravimetric option? The image on the right shows three 180g samples of Masterbatch in 500ml containers. This illustrates perfectly the huge variance in bulk density between colours. 15 Maguire invented and developed the gravimetric blender for the plastics industry in Since then, the company have been working closely with producers all over the world developing the technology for a multitude of applications. Over 55,000 have been sold worldwide, an accuracy still unequalled in the plastics industry. Machines that were installed over 25 years ago are still operating accurately, 24/7, which is a testament to the technology and quality of the design. Injection Moulding First to market to precisely blend virgin with both regrind and Masterbatch this is the ideal way to ensure your expensive additive is only added to your virgin and not your already coloured regrind. Immune to vibration, these machines can be machine or floor mounted. Customers never return to dosing and proportional valves once a blender is installed. Historically, payback can be as little as 3 months. Additional components can be added if required. Blow Moulding Designed to ensure a perfect blend of virgin, regrind and colour. We have installed thousands of these units within the blow moulding industry worldwide. Increasingly, additional ingredients are added to the blend like calcium fillers, UV stabilisers etc. Huge improvements in processing are seen, such as parison control and bottle or product weight. Film/Sheet Extrusion Special Applications For Film Extrusion, the blend is calculated differently to moulding, all the percentage ingredients must add up to 100%. With Sheet Extrusion, the blend is generally ratios and each material can be a percentage of the batch or each other. Most extruders in the UK have a Maguire WSB and they will tell you they have delivered a massive improvement in product quality and cost control. Our team undertake a wide range of activities; from modifying standard equipment to the production of aluminium and steel storage containers. Pipework & Installation We offer a full range of aluminium and stainless steel pipework. Various gauges and diameters are in stock and most sizes and lengths available to order. Pipe Bends We offer a range of pipe bends for all applications; stainless steel (for abrasive applications), cobalt treated or glass. These are manufactured in house so custom sizes are available. 21 Conveyors Summit Systems provides a vast array of solutions for movement of products around plastics manufacturing plants, including single belt conveyors, to complete synchronised plc controlled installations. Finished product may be moved away from the machine using variations of belt conveyor to suit the application. Other typical applications are tops and tails transported to a granulator, or even parts fed to packaging machines or bowl feeders. We also design a lights out system to count and box components. Multi-Conveyor System We design and build complete, bespoke systems from simply connecting several moulding machines to a packing area or an automated counting, weighing and lights out boxing system.
