Mark has been specialising in climate management for large buildings since Over this period Mark has developed into a market leader in the Netherlands and abroad. History of innovation In 1945, Mark was established by the van der Mark brothers in Veendam. At the time it went under the name of Ingenieursbureau Gebroeders Van der Mark NV. The brothers began with the production and sale of bending pumps and coal-fired air heaters. These were followed by oil-fired heaters and ribbed radiators. At the time, only standard designs of air heating devices were available. From the mid-fifties the two brothers focussed increasingly upon the heating of large buildings. To this end they built suspended gas-fired air heaters. This gave rise to the GS series, a unique system that is to this day the leader in the European heating market. The engineers of Mark continue to innovate. Over the years they have developed many new solutions for hall heating, including innovative high-efficiency gas-fired and water-fed air heating and radiant heat systems. The power-saving Mark Ecofan, the use of sea-water resistant aluminium for external equipment and the black radiant tube heaters with a length of up to 50 metres followed in the eighties and nineties. Mark is still characterised by this innovative power. Complete systems for air treatment and heat pumps are now part of our range. The full range of products in climate technology Since 1983, Mark has been owned by the Bruinsma family. Director G.J.H.A. Bruinsma ( ) expanded the innovative company into an internationally operating organisation. An organisation that is unique in Europe. Not surprising Mark is the market leader in climate technology: it produces the full range of products for temperature management and air conditioning in industrial and utility buildings. This means that our customers can find everything for Mr G.J.H.A. Bruinsma ( ) their entire climate management system from a single supplier. The Mark Holding consists of six companies: six sales and service establishments in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Poland and Romania and two production companies: one in the Netherlands and one in Ireland. Despite this international character the Bruinsma family still runs the company as a family company, with the needs of the customer always coming first. In countries where Mark has no establishments of its own we have a network of distributors. We have over 200 professionals at our disposal and can thus serve the entire European market. 9 GS+ Environmentally friendly heating with the GS+ Mark manufactures a gas-fired, highperformance air heater with an axial fan. This condensing equipment provides efficiency greater than 106% (lower value). Heat is generated via a modulating (5:1) premix-burner which results in very low gas consumption. The GS+ is operated using an OpenTherm clock thermostat. The GS+ is suitable in many situations due to its extensive capacity range from 35 to 150 kw. The GS+ is designed to heat garages, warehouses, distribution centres and showrooms. Mark provides a 2 year full product warranty as standard and up to 10 years reducing warranty with the stainless steel heat exchanger. 15 GC+ Custom-made environment friendly heating with standard Mark-equipment In addition to the High Efficiency air heater, the Mark-range also includes a gas-fired, high performance air heater with a centrifugal fan. The GC+ is particularly suited for connection to duct systems, or systems where high pressure is required. This condensing equipment provides efficiency greater than 106% (lower value). Heat is generated via a modulating (5:1) premix burner which results in very low gas consumption. The GC+ is operated using an OpenTherm clock thermostat as standard. Other operating options are also available. An extensive range of additional sections has been developed for the GC+. This ensures the standard GC+ can be simply and affordably adapted to any project specification. The comprehensive capacity range ( kw) also means the area of application for this type of equipment is virtually limitless. The GC+ can additionally be incorporated into an air handling unit. The GC+ is designed to heat garages, warehouses, workshops, schools and sports halls among other applications, with or without a duct system. 24 GSD The indestructible bestseller We have manufactured more than GS gas-fired suspended air heaters over the past 65 years. In the light of all the experience gathered over previous years, Mark provides a 2 year product warranty and a 10 year reducing warranty on the standard stainless steel heat exchanger. A 25 year lifespan is no exception for a GSD. 35 GC Reliable and highly versatile Over the past 65 years, this gas-fired air heater with centrifugal fan has proven itself to be a highly reliable and versatile heating appliance. The enormous variety of additional sections provides the option of configuring this appliance relatively easily for any required indoor climate. The Mark GC has various burner controls: on/off, high/low or pulsating. Use of the centrifugal fan renders the air heater ideally suited for connection to a duct system, spanning an external pressure of 300 Pa. The system fan can be set to high/low on a project basis for applications where the noise level is important. It is also possible to take in or recirculate (fresh) outside air. The GC can also be incorporated into a rooftop or air conditioning unit. The GC is designed to heat garages, warehouses, workshops, schools, sports halls and churches, among other applications, with or without a duct system. The ROOFTOP is manufactured as standard with a seawaterresistant outer coating. The ROOFTOP can be fitted with a single or several gas-fired air heaters for a capacity range from 20 to 384 kw coupled with large air volumes. 44 FÖHN The longest-running product One of the first activities of Mark was to build an oil- or gas-fired vertical air heater, the FÖHN. As a result, Mark has already heated 1,500 churches in the Netherlands alone and may therefore be called the specialist in this field. As well as churches, countless other rooms are heated by the Mark FÖHN. If required, Mark supplies this appliance in loose parts for assembly on site by our own service department. The wide range of capacities from 50 to 415 kw means that this appliance can provide a solution for every heating requirement in any room. The Mark FÖHN is fitted with a centrifugal fan as standard and can therefore be connected to a duct system. Free discharge into a room is just one of the possibilities. Mark provides a 2-year full product warranty as standard for this product, and up to 10 years reducing warranty with the heat exchanger! This means that the burner (and the flame) is located directly in the air flow to deliver maximum performance. The flue gases are so clean that they may be blown into the building. 67 KLIMAT The ultimate in air handling units: directly and indirectly fired Mark has developed a range of air handling units with several options for a wide variety of applications. From a simple air intake unit to a fully automatically-controlled air handling unit suitable for both indoor or outdoor use. There is a wide selection of heating systems, such as hot water batteries, gas or oil-fired modules, gas-fired make-up air systems or high performance gas-fired heating systems. Heat recovery and cooling are of course also possible. The air handling units can be for internal and external use. Mark air handling units are made from seawater-resistant aluminium panels with double-walled insulation as standard. This means lower weight and a longer lifespan. The Mark air handling unit is a highly developed, premium quality product that can be adjusted to the customer s requirements. The frame construction consists of profiled closed aluminium tube profiles. The individual cabinet modules can be installed in different ways, either in line, next to each other or on top of each other. The tube profiles are attached to each other using plastic angled profides to create a stable frame construction. Modular construction The individual parts of the air handling unit are quick and easy to install due to a well thought out system. In almost every case, the modules are supplied pre-assembled. The individual modules are fixed to each other so that they are airtight. the double-walled aluminium panels are mounted in the frame in an airtight manner. the centering section in the corner of the module ensures correct installation to the next module. Technical detail The access doors are fitted with adjustable, maintenance-free hinges (adjustable both in height and at the sides). The hinges, or panel clips if required, are mounted on the outside of the air handling unit. This prevents dirt from building up on the inside of the unit. The access doors of the air handling unit are fitted with lockable spring locks. The airtight closure of the doors against the housing is guaranteed by a special rubber profile. 69 Sound and thermal insulation Noise reduction is an important point for consideration in the design of an air handling unit. For this reason, we have opted to use a doublewalled seawater-resistant aluminium panel with 30 mm rock wool insulation. This also results in excellent thermal insulation. Sound insulation of a dividing panel (ISO 717-1:1996) A lot of attention is paid to the smooth finishing on the inside of the unit, which makes it easy to clean. 74 Mixing boxes The air handling unit can be equipped with a mixing box. This box is placed between the air extraction section and the air inlet section. 75 airstream Plug and play heat-recovery unit Increasingly high demands are being placed on the air quality in buildings. Multiple ventilation is often needed in order to comply with these demands. A great deal of energy is lost when standard ventilation equipment is used. To counter the loss of energy, Mark has included a heat-recovery unit, the AIRSTREAM, in its product range. The unit is equipped with a cross-flow exchanger which has an efficiency of 90%. This means that 90% of the energy expelled is supplied to the fresh intake air. This high-efficiency means that in many cases no after-heating is required. The AIRSTREAM heat exchanger unit is available for both internal and external use. Possible applications for the AIRSTREAM include: offices, schools, workshops and changing areas. The end-user of this heat-recovery unit may be eligible for the EIA-scheme. 79 Radiant heating With normal heating systems, the heated air rises upwards outside the usable range. When you use INFRA heating systems, the heat remains where it is needed. The easy way to heat halls Mark manufactures a variety of radiant heating systems. These systems operate with various heat media. Mark offers a range of gas-fired radiant heaters and water-supplied radiant panels. Principle of radiant heating By using a heat medium such as, for example, warm water or hot air (flue gases), pipework can be heated. The medium is able to heat the pipework to such a degree that the pipe emits its heat in the form of radiant heat. This heat can best be compared with the sun. The radiant heat is completely harmless, and provides a very pleasant atmosphere. If the radiant heat is used, the air in a room does not need to be heated. The room temperature (air) also remains relatively low. An example of this is that when the ambient temperature is just 18 degrees, it feels like 20 degrees. One major benefit is that the energy requirement is reduced by up to 10% and that the system is very fast. Reducing energy requirements and having a much shorter heating time means it is possible to reduce energy consumption by approximately 40% in comparison with conventional heating. The radiant heat ensures that the floor of the hall has a temperature higher than the desired hall temperature. Using radiant heating means that no pockets of heat form under the roof, unlike with conventional heating. No air is blown into the hall, so that people are not affected by air displacement or dust eddies. Think, for example, of the goods on warehouse shelves, which previously always became dusty, or sports halls where the air heaters had to be switched off during games of badminton. Radiant heating is particularly suitable for zone heating so that, for example, only a work space is heated rather than the whole room. This unit is also suitable for poorly insulated buildings. Radiant heating is based on the principle of heat transfer from a warm body to a body of lower temperature by means of electromagnetic wave energy. This electromagnetic wave, not hindered by air, radiates walls, floor and the present persons in the room. As soon as the infrared radiation gets in contact with the human body, it is converted into heat. This does not cause any change in the air temperature. This method of heat generation is considered as very pleasant. The more intense the radiant heat is, the less, the actual air temperature has to be increased for a comfortable indoor climate. The short warming-up period and the lower room temperature can yield good energy savings. Savings can be as high as 40%. The INFRA HT uses an open ceramic burner for heating. This emits a high level of heat over a relatively small surface area. This high concentration of heat enables these units to be located in tall buildings. As this unit uses open combustion, ventilation within the room must be considered. The room may be ventilated with the Mark MDV, for example see page 56. Mark supplies the INFRA HT in 9 different capacities with the length of the unit increasing as the capacity increases.
